Great video. Really enjoyed this! However you really need to watch more John Woo movies. Hard Boiled and The Killer are two of the greatest action movies ever made, possibly the best ever. Also there's hardly any martial arts films here! I recommend the Police Story films as a starter.

I'll make my own risky prediction: Villeneuve is going to kill off Paul in Part 3. I can't fully explain why without big spoilers for Dune Messiah (on which Part 3 will be based), but that's what I think will happen. He was adamant that he won't be doing any further adaptations of the books, so I'm expecting him to decisively conclude Paul's narrative arc.

Oh, Spielberg! I've enjoyed most of his post-2000 films but I thought he was past his prime until I saw The Fabelmans. It's such an under-seen and under-appreciated gem. 1. Jurassic Park, 2. Jaws, 3. E.T., 4. The Fabelmans, 5. Raiders of the Lost Ark, 6. Catch Me if You Can, 7. The Temple of Doom, 8. The Last Crusade, 9. Minority Report, 10. unpopular choice, but probably Tintin. Where are Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan, you might ask? I would name those easily, along with Jaws, as his 3 best films. But yeah, they're difficult watches so I can't call them favorites.

If this film does not win any oscars next year i will call BS. You fought well today, paul atreides(yes, i'm sure i butchered the last name). that final fight scene was the stuff of legends. people give the movie a 0 because it has too much religion.... sorry but sci fi cultures can have religious beliefs just like the real world... I disagree with you on the replay value of Dunkirk. I’ve seen Dunkirk at least 5 times now and it’s one of the best war movies made in recent years. Plus, your complaint about the lack of emotional connection to the characters? The point of Dunkirk is that it’s a survival thriller; it has the capacity to make you care enough for the soldiers trapped on the beach and the people trying to ensure their rescue. The absence of stuff like character backstories and development is what sells Dunkirk as a fast paced action thriller. For that reason, as well as the direction, cinematography and so on, it should be ranked a lot higher than 11.
@malexander4094
@malexander4094 11 ай бұрын
I'd might rank "Inception" where you rate "Tenet," maybe even lower. The weakest characterizations of all his films & being much too easy to follow for a story about dreaming (but where 95% of the time, the dream worlds are so bizarrely "realistic" as to be un-dreamlike...Or maybe me & most people I know just have way more interesting dreams than Nolan does?) My favorite is definitely "The Prestige." And, I go back & forth on whether his masterpiece is "Dunkirk" or "Oppenheimer." In the latter, he's at the peak of his craft...but I just think "Dunkirk" is so...strange. I don't know how else to describe it. Because it is very interested in time as a character in a survival situation...which perhaps is one reason you may not feel strong emotional resonance with any particular character. I am not sure you should. I've heard from soldiers, it was hard coming home to be rooted & admired for as a hero, when all they did was survive something terrible. And, that seems to me a wildly ambitious truth to depict in a big budget war film. After my 20th birthday, I was extremely invested in the release of "The Dark Knight" & even played the viral game. I was there opening night. By now, I've seen it many times. If only the film was a bit bolder...and not so much "Heat meets The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance," I'd at least be nostalgic for it. But it is also a film so firmly rooted in its era, the Bush era, and certain things have aged so poorly. Obviously most people seem willing to ignore that, I just can't. I also think the fight scenes look much, much better in "Rises." Maybe it's sad, but now I realize I deeply, deeply loved the movie....but exactly once, on its opening night.

I kind of miss that this movie didn't have any Jason Momoa quips about wimpy Paul Atraedes muscle-less-ness, even in flashback. Seriously though the movie was pretty tragic. Yes exciting and very well paced for the most part. But watching Paul continue to sink deeper into the murk of being a Messiah made me feel sad. Of course that doesn't make movie bad. I'm not here to give it a rating of like 150 out of 5 stars or something like that. Just it made me sad.

I enjoyed the movie very much, there are some diferences with the original source, but overall the story is satisfactory. One thing i believe that Villeneuve version is way worse than Lynch is the Ost. The songs of Lynch version are so much memorable. I honestly dont think i will remember any song from Villeneuve while i pretty much know all the score of Lynch even while have not watched the movie for so long time. The Soundtracks really dont make justice to Villeneuve Movie. I also Disliked some things that felt like got Awokenized imo. The chani end was totally unnecessary. Chani Stays with Paul as the Imperial Concubine. She is his true love and the marriage with Irulan was just to legitmate paul ascension to throne. In the book he even tells her. - I will never sleep with you or have you bare my children. You are only my wife in name. My true wife and love is and always will be Chani. But i guess Villeneuve ending, was the only way to save face for both women. Chani departs alone to the desert as a Strong Independent woman and Irulan Saves her father and Becomes a powerful Empress. Its Stupid and unnecessary and potential plot breaking in the future. They kind of hint of a 3rd Movie (U see Glimpses of a Full grown up Alia, The baby on Jessica´s Womb, that was never named in this movie and i dont know why. She actually had been born by the time of the final battle. Have no idea why they decided to keep her in the womb as she births as soon as Jessica Drinks the water of life, but i digress...), and on dune messiah, the sequel to Dune, Paul and Chani have 2 twins, 1 girl and 1 boy. I guess Chani wont be the mother if they do a 3rd movie and instead will be Irulan. Irulan also plots against paul, mainly because she is a disgruntled wife never loved by his husband. But that doesnt serve the narrative of strong independent women. In a set like Dune, one could easylie Argue that the Benne Gesserit (A order exclusive of only women) Are the True powers behind the Throne, manipulating the events and leading the entire human Race to their designs. So a less lazy writer could Easylie depicture women strong and powerful and be truthful to the Lore. This woke Nonsense is just lazy and stupid in my opnion. I did enjoyed however the coming of the profecy on Villeneuve movie. Is alot more well paced, and u get to see the prophecy fulfilling step by step. did enjoyed that more than in Lynch movie where paul nearly instantly becomes the Mahdi. Stilgar Role on this movie is alot more memorable than the Stilgar on Lynch movie. All the Actors were very well, But i think the Emperor Shadan IV looks were lacklust, Its the Emperor of the human race, Should have been depicted with more Grandeur. Overall It is a great movie and all sci-fi and Dune fans should go and watch it. But i still prefer Lynch Version. has it Is more faithfull to the original Source.

When I saw D2 for the first time in late February at pre-release projection party, I commented that only few people will be aware that we are witnessing history here. In decades to come, Dune saga (hopefully a trilogy) will be considered the best ever and up with all-time classics in the sci-fi genre. For the record, I've seen D2 4 times in theaters already, including 1x in imax - and I agree the sounds and visuals are 11/10 there. Not sure if they actually put Spice there, but I'm craving for more D2 every single day. :)

Honestly, I don't get the love this is getting. Characters were drastically changed (Jessica, Chani, Stilgar, Feyd) for simplicity and so many extra scenes were added so we could "connect" with characters we already care about, the first half of the film was a hollywood waste, the dialogue was so on the nose it was like being smacked in the face, Show don't tell anyone? Everything important was said, not shown. None of the emotional moments had any impact because all the important scenes were dashed through so more blam blam, boom guns and big speech moments, did anyone care when Chani cried? Did Gurney's revenge matter at all? None of the emotional pay offs felt earned as they had little to no struggle to get there. Who cares when Chani's friend died? Does anyone remember her name? Why not have her be Janis's wife? Anything, christ. And Feyd, FEYD! Feyd is literally the Anti-Paul, his cheating in every arena is what leads to his undoing and what makes him the shadow character and they cut that all away, just for him to be a psychotic, but honourable bad guy, cause ahh, he's bad, but honourable? He was bland as hell here, but hey, better to have Paul get lost in Chani's eyes while she describes wind farming then build Feyd's character, right? No! The Baron had one good scene and that's it. How do you waste so many great characters? So many great scenes? God, this was, as far as adaptations go, an absolute hack job, how the hell did the same guy make the first film and this one? Consider the scene in the first film where Stilgar meets Leto, the tension, the mystery, the presence. It's compelling, it's beautiful, it's impactful, it breathes. No one could take a breath in this film, racing as it did through a lot of nothing and then having the tone lurch all over the place, it was like watching a Marvel film. And did you notice any time anyone had to emote they did it by yelling? That's all anyone did in this film was yell. There was no time for any of the complexity of the first film. Almost none of the good work was carried over. This was a crushing disappointment and while I can admit entirely that this should be seen in the cinema, it is visually striking and stunning and deserves the big screen, it was a chore and a bore to get through. There was 40 good-great minutes tucked away in this film and everything else was lazy decision making and terrible writing. I don't imagine it's easy to create this, or to adapt it, or to give it the full treatment in 3 hrs, but goddamn why waste the first hour and a half? Why not go for another couple of drafts? You had nearly 200 million dollars. Find. A. Better. Way. Just, Ahhhhhhh! Goddamn this was such a let down. Which I truly hate to say, I'm stupefied that everyone loves it so much. I think my feelings about modern cinema, this film and it's response, are summed up by the Braveheart quote, "You’re so concerned with squabbling for the scraps from Longshank’s table, that you’ve missed your God-given right to something better." It should've been better, it truly, truly should have. At least there's always the books.

It's a little thing called adaptation. Alia is interesting in the book, but it is an element that doesn't really translate that well to a live action adaptation made for more than just fans of the book. I'd much rather a filmmaker sacrifice one element to bolster more important aspects.
