Could one just use the barrel of a 40 for testing fit?
@RELOADINGandSHOOTING17 күн бұрын
@@douglascarlson9712 unfortunately, 90% of the case will fall in the CHAMBER and will give you falls reading because that 10% will either won’t go into battery or fire with catastrophic failure… $25 bucks for the gauge is a cheap item for assurance…

Just watched your 10 year video. Great job!! I'm doing the same thing to my Rem. 700 SPS Varmint in .223. I decided to use low profile aluminum knobs instead of the plastic ones. It looks like you have drafting maybe in your background because of your layout design?

I use a standard Lee Precision Full Lengh Carbide Sizing Die and The range brass I use will always drop into my Case gauge or Barrel with no problems. I don't know what die you are using but I would try something different.

I have a co-ax and the POS Forster puller that looks just like this, handle and all. I couldn't figure out how to make it work in the co-ax. But now that you mentioned it, Forster didn't, it looks like I will need to thread a longer bolt through the ring that will block against the side of the co-ax and stop the damn thing from turning.
@OlTrailDog9 ай бұрын
I replaced the OEM ring screw with a longer cap screw and placed a nylon bushing over the end of the cap screw before inserting it into the ring. Now it locks against the side of the co-ax and successfully removes the bullet. I will also be TIG welding a nut to the top so that I can use a box end wrench like the other bullet puller model instead of the stupid screw on handle.

Need to know more. Like the kind/brand of Brass your using and the type/brand of dies. Both of these could be "Factors" also, are you ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN your sizing die was properly "set/ajusted" to begin with.

Will this work on the Vortex scopes as well?
@RELOADINGandSHOOTING Жыл бұрын
It depends on the model of the scope. The newer design will probably not work. There was a time when vortex was manufacturing scopes with the internal adjusting knob exposed. It was a narrow metal in the middle like the one shown on my scope and the adjustment knob slides in, then the knob is locked in place with an allen head screws.. The only reason the "shim zero stop" design works is because, the metal adjustment knob was narrower where the plastic washer can slide in the middle. I think the latter designs are being locked by a single screw on top on the knob and the adjustment metal rod is no longer exposed.

I recommend not using a bulged case because the brass has been stretched excessively and weakened the sidewall of the case. You can also use your barrel as a case gauge in a pinch. Barrels vary from gun to gun, and what fits your gun may not fit another gun. 40 S&W brass is cheap.

I just setup my Dillon SDB, ran a few cases through that I know were fired from a Glock. It seems to take out the glock bulge. Does anyone know if thats possible or am I just lucky with these first few?

@minerblue9641 Жыл бұрын
Case inspection is indispensable when using range find 40 cases. The cases with the pronounced glock smile are trash and should be sold for the metal. Because when the glock smile forms the brass has to stretch to form the bulge(smile). When stretching like that occurs in a very rapid way. The brass stretches and thins where it stretches. The thinning weakens the case. If this stretching keeps on going the brass will thin to the point where the bubble will pop. Resizing the case will not fix the case weakness. This doesn't need to be said, if the bubble pops then it will wreck your beloved pistol and in many cases will blow off fingers and cause horrific injuries. If you wonder what I'm taking about Start inspecting some 40 range find brass. Pretty soon you'll run across a glock smile brass case. The glock smile isn't a slight bulging that you need to look very closely at to find it. It is a grossly over pressure case that can be spotted without very close inspection. This brass, in my opinion, is very dangerous. I like my pistols very much, and my fingers more than the pistol. If you inspect all range finds you'll find a wealth of information on high pressure signs on various calibers of cases. And primer over pressure signs also. Insecting brass is an education in itself. If you're lucky you'll find a case or a few cases that have been fired under tremendous pressure and the case head expands so much that the case will not fit in the shell holder.
