Wonderful game! I enjoy watching games you and Alex put on. I am fairly new to the nuances of BP rules, but I have seen suggested that using sapper or engineer models when assaulting a building or fortification will give the defender a -1 to their saving throw. Also, artillery (howitzers) could help soften up the defences as well with saving penalties. Maybe by turn 3 or 4 you could possibly get a foothold on the objective?

All these games of Lion Rampant is making me want to get a game on with my friends on Sunday evening! They have been asking, since we all own the rules (and have plenty of figs with our Saga armies). I'm just worried if we start playing it regularly it will diminish the experience of playing Xenos Rampant for Sci-Fi. Graham - have you noticed if you use the same set for multiple periods that there doesn't seem to be the flavor of the period anymore? That you're just playing the game -- not Dark Ages or Sci-Fi or American War of Independence? I have noticed that with our Wiley Games skirmishes (Fistful of Lead series)...
@grahamswargamevault263511 күн бұрын
@@mikedemana Hi Mike, interesting comment.. Re LR, the game definitely doesn’t have the depth of saga, it is also too variable and not a competition ruleset. But it gives a great club night game, beer, pretzels and giggles. The series of games do have the same game mechanic, rebels and patriots is slightly different though regarding fatigue. Only played 1 game of xenon, with ww2, not sure about them tbh. The medieval and dark age are different, courtesy of different troop types. I would say though racial differences are not so obvious. I would say the lack of depth is made with the fun element of the games. Like you, I am waiting for age of chiv, I just hope I am not disappointed.

I have to say I really like your house rule of all units getting a chance to roll to act. The one failure and its over makes it more dicey and less...tactical? The zone of fire applies to what can be shot at, not who can fire. In effect all figures can fire at anything within their zone, but not outside it. So if any part of the enemy falls within the zone then all of the groups in the firing formation can fire. Hits (not casualties) are then split between all groups in the target formation and rolled for effect. Hope that makes sense. Pat
@grahamswargamevault2635Ай бұрын
yep agree with this, think we was playing it correctly, albeit it seemed a bit harsh.... I guess also tight formations fired straight ahead, after a while into the smoke. That was the way they were trained.
@patrickj8425Ай бұрын
Glad it was useful. The main thing to bear in mind is that all figures in the firing formation count. It also means you can put a few single groups outside their zone of fire to break the formation and they can’t fire back at you. No more ‘walls of death’. Pat

I play solo games and it is interesting how rules deal with what the rules say is written in stone. Why is the unit not able to fire? Perhaps the question should be, why did the player put his unit in such a position that the unit couldn’t fire all the units available muskets. If you look at the rules the ground scale is about the same as a 6mm figure and the units aren’t battalions but companies and why aren’t they all facing the enemy unit?
