Business is business Sales are sales Ask any store manager what their highest value square footage is, they will tell you the smaller items. The ad on pieces. Build a relationship of trust and value and your larger pieces will move once your smaller pieces do.

Because most of them make minimum wage, aren't given proper training to 'learn every product' so they have to have that drive to do it themselves which isn't an easy thing to be doing solo... They'd have to buy many things just to talk to a customer, try to help them, then have their opinion shrugged off as the person doesn't listen anyways...it's also not that common for someone to go up and expect that of the worker, like you said, most people look up products before going out and buying them because stores try to upsell all the time. So it's ignorance on the customer if they just go 'hey I need this', most stores advocate for upselling, not selling the right product for the right customer.

Hey just a thought. They were busy dealing with something else at that moment. They didn’t avoid you they just were busy. You should understand that not everyone is going to immediately see YOU walk in and care about you and only you immediately. I know you already have some micro gravitational field around your body but it’s not enough for others to immediately be pulled Into you

Not true..I knew of a company that for years bounced payroll checks..employees busting thier ass all week for nothing. And all the VP ever said was, "Well we have 30 days by law to make it right."

Remember why people leave jobs. Good leaders are needed in your organization. Why hire a good person just to lose them?

What he described is not personality, you could argue it’s talent: communication skills. It just sounds like he interviews for communication skills.

@Jimmy DeGroot I was a lot of rah rah pep talk to get us motivated for a dead end retail job, no one cared if we sold an extra laptop or protection plan. Until you are in a job where people care about the work, they are useless.

Hello Jimmy, this is Cheick from Africa in Congo Republic. The reason I'm texting you is that I'm running our family owned jewelry business 4th generation, I'd love to get into watches so I'd like to ask you some few questions if you could help. 1. What do I need to get into watches 2. How do you price watches and how do I know watche prices and market value, have been looking for websites like kitco for gold but haven't found any 3. Which management software can I use to run reports 4. Where do I source watches 5. By the way I'm 21, and you inspired me a lot. I'd love to meet you one day Waiting for your reply, I'd really appreciate your help

Keep up the fine work communicating the importance of passion, Jimmy! When a sales consultant and a perspective consumer buyer engage in conversation, passion , be it face-to-face or screen-to-screen, is indeed paramount. Genuine passion over any product from any sales associate's standpoint tends to carry strong consumer closing power in 4C's: Communication, Compassion, Consideration and Camaraderie. Trust is always aligned with sales people who talk less and listen more. Jimmy DeGroot is a highly respected source for all things jewelry training and sales, and a staunch supporter of consultant-to-consumer dialogues over monologues. I agree that sales discussions must be motivated by genuine passion. And, one thing I've learned... you can't fake genuine.
