Especially when using our Technine bindings with a third upper cuff- they offer more lateral support and many prefer to use them when they would rather not use ski boots.

@summitskiboardsАй бұрын
I was testing a "sand skin" prototype that didn't end up sliding as well as using black graphite wax on the base of the skiboards. However, people do use shortened climbing skins with touring bindings mounted to our skiboards and they work quite well! Super easy to use to get up the mountain.

Thanks a lot for this video and comments. I just decided to go with skiboards. I used to be an avid skier (intermediate/aggressive/adventurer type 🙂) but it's been nine years since my last time on the mountain and I want to go back next season. I'm 63 now and I'm leaning toward 110-125 centimeters skiboards. What length do you recommend? Any comment will be appreciated. Thanks a lot.
@summitskiboards3 ай бұрын
That's great to hear! What kind of terrain are you looking to ride? The 118s are rocker/camber and are great for float in powder and still do exceptionally well with groomers and hard pack. The 125's are twin-tip camber (no rocker) and do well in all conditions as well with their large size; they just feel a little more ski-like in handling and less skate-like. The 110's are also quite fast and great in most all conditions, just not as good in powder as they are twin-tip camber (no rocker).
@androklesfb3 ай бұрын
Thanks a lot@@summitskiboards I ski on the Chilean Andes, mostly groomed pists but I love going off pist any time there is good powder snow. I love red and black pists, powder and jumps.

@@androklesfb You're very welcome! In that case, I would very much recommend either the 118 or 125. Both would be perfect in the conditions you are skiing.

I have some but haven't tried them yet. Tyrolia ski bindings and I've been wondering where to set the din. I'm mainly thinking about tipping backwards. I'm afraid of my rollerskis after falling on my butt on the asphalt. They're both around 90cm. Can't decide where the skiboards should be set. The one you're holding up in the video looks really cool. Great video.
@summitskiboards6 ай бұрын
Thank you! Cam is holding up the Summit GroovN 106 in the video. What model do you have? Also, people often set their DIN based upon the online calculator or have a ski tech do it. Here’s more info on that with a link to the calculator at bottom of page: skiboards.com/skiboard-bindings-adjustment-boot-fit-and-din-setting-calculator/

Aren't those a bit long to safely ride with non-release bindings?
@summitskiboards9 ай бұрын
That's a great question. 110 cm (as seen in this clip) is around the maximum length people tend to use with a nonrelease setup, as it is short enough to pose lower risk of injury in a fall. However, there still is increaased injury risk when compared to using our release bindings.

Great video with a lot of good points. I've been a snowboarder and hockey player my whole life. Snowboarding started causing back pain and I never felt really comfortable on full size skis. I rented a pair of ski boards and nearly felt like I was in my hockey skates, they were so easy to maneuver and so much much fun on the slopes. I'll be hitting up Summit to get myself a pair.

Of course you can ski these areas, you just need decent skills, nothing magical, just decent. If you cannot ski them with normal skis, you cannot ski them with ski boards, probably even less. Ski boards don‘t have any real advantage over normal skis apart from being a fun change to play around with if you‘re getting too bored with normal skis. Cheers

Skiboards still get so much unnecessary hate, and I suppose it has a lot to do with the bad reputation of snowblades 😇 I was on the slopes today in Japan, and while in line for the lift a European coach pointed at my Summit skiboards and told his student to “never use that kind of skis, they’re dangerous” “people think they’re more ‘fun’ but they aren’t”. I hope he didn’t bash the boards only due to the shorter length because that would be pretty stupid. I’m quite sure he thought that my boards had low quality materials and simple non-release bindings. I didn’t get a chance but I really wanted to let him know that good boards have solid wood cores, sharp metal edges and proper release bindings.
@summitskiboards10 ай бұрын
Sadly likely true. People have no idea just how safe and stable these are- truly as safe as it gets with the release bindings and much less torque on knees with short length. Way to be out there representing! 🙂
