I ski daily in winter park colorado and every chairlift ride people either stare at my ski boards or ask what are those? I am amazed more people haven’t discovered how easy and how much more fun ski.boards are. I really believe the entire industry would rather sell bulky over priced skis and snowboards than allow folks to have fun and save money.

My wife and i use skiboards also and think it’s so much easier that’s it’s not even close. The confusing part is that when you talk to ski shop workers and people in the industry it seems that all i hear is how “unsafe” the “blades” are. I don’t understand whatsoever. I’m pretty new to riding but can tell you first hand it’s much easier to turn and stop in shorter ski’s.

Great video with a lot of good points. I've been a snowboarder and hockey player my whole life. Snowboarding started causing back pain and I never felt really comfortable on full size skis. I rented a pair of ski boards and nearly felt like I was in my hockey skates, they were so easy to maneuver and so much much fun on the slopes. I'll be hitting up Summit to get myself a pair.

Thanks for the video! I’ve snow skied most of my life and feel like this is just a great thing for the sport. Especially the skiboards with snowboard bindings on them! As someone who has taught many people to ski, these would make it so much more fun for someone learning, how to ski as well as season skiers. Just looks like a blast!

Cool to see, Cam. I skied as an adult for the first time two years ago. I took two days of classes and felt pretty good. But i live in Florida! So, i cant go often. Did some digging on my own and found skiboarding. Got back in to blading and found you for that. Cool to see that it works for skaters. Owned a lot of skis over the years, K2 unlimited's, Atomic rs, Blizzard thermo's, Salomon's, Tua's, Elan's etc.. Bought 2 sets of the Salomon Snowblades years back and then picked up 2 sets of the Hagan Off Limits (130cm) I rip the inbounds on both kinds with a fury (always getting yelled at by patrol lol) and even tour backcountry with them when I'm feelin' "squirrelly"..still got the long boards and use them when it's bottomless but even at a young 53 I cut loose on the "blades" and leave the pack in the dust..

I used a pair of the old Snowblades for many years between 1999-2010. They fit in my snowboard bag with my poles and would use them when the snow was too hard for fun snowboarding. It is like rollarblading or ice skating downhill. Lots of fun on a groomed trial or moguls. Tricky to jump with but doable. I do not know why they don't use these to teach people to ski.

I have been skiing for just over 15 years now, and this is an interesting idea and while I love innovation in the ski world I have a few questions. 1. What about deep powder? Like really deep. Days where There are 1.5 feet + of fresh. Hailing from the wasatch I can’t ski a ski that can’t handle this much snow. The super long taper of a modern ski in the nose because of its length allows for easy speed retention and turns in these conditions, but how do these skis allow for floatation even being fatter than usual underfoot? 2. How might you land with these skis off more sizable hits? In the park I can see these being a great toy that are easy to land, but what about 20+ foot cliffs or even park jumps of a more sizable nature? Usually having a longer ski allows you some margin for error because you have the tails to lean back on if you don’t stomp it bolts, but on these it looks like you might just slide out and fall on your back? 3. Butter tricks? As far as the park goes, swerve skiing along with many other disciplines include the use of butter tricks. But without the length in the nose or tail, it does not seem possible to get up on the noeses or tails for a proper nosebutter. Anyways, it’s a super cool idea and I love the innovative spirit. Keep posting and marketing these and eventually you will get there. Thanks!

Buttering and tail/nose presses seem out of the picture for obvious reasons, and hitting large jumps with these would just be plain stupid and a death sentence for your ankles and knees, not enough stability and all the force of landing would go straight to ur ankles, shins, and knees. As for deep powder longer skis are still superior because they cover more surface area reducing how much you sink and u can still butter in the deep pow which is always fun

@verticalhairline Great questions! 1- Our skiboards with early rise do an excellent job even in deep powder. Because they are shorter, the technique is somewhat different from traditional skis- you put more weight on your heels while riding down and they float great. We especially recommend our Invertigo 118cm skiboards in deep pow. I personally love how much easier and quicker it is to turn with these in pow and trees compared with traditional skis. 2- Because these are shorter, you do have to be a litle more centered on these to ensure you land properly. Many have successfully hucked tall cliffs on skiboards- it just takes some practice to get the feel of the landing (not relying on tails). Our more cambered skiboards such as the Ecstatic 99cm, Bamboo Pro 110cm, and Marauder 125cm especially do well with sticking landings. Often times, you can land well on these when landing switch by using a more "scissored" stance like you would on skates. They were made to have twin tips and a parabolic shape (like two small snowboards, hence the "skiboard" name), and that inspired ski companies to eventually develop similar parabolic designs for their skis. Summit has continued to innovate designs since 2002 to make them as stable and fun as possible on the mountain.

@verticalhairline one last thing- I would say the Invertigo 118s are the best combo for powder float and good camber for landing big jumps, while still getting amazing maneuverability in chutes, trees, moguls, etc.

I have some but haven't tried them yet. Tyrolia ski bindings and I've been wondering where to set the din. I'm mainly thinking about tipping backwards. I'm afraid of my rollerskis after falling on my butt on the asphalt. They're both around 90cm. Can't decide where the skiboards should be set. The one you're holding up in the video looks really cool. Great video.

Skiboards still get so much unnecessary hate, and I suppose it has a lot to do with the bad reputation of snowblades 😇 I was on the slopes today in Japan, and while in line for the lift a European coach pointed at my Summit skiboards and told his student to “never use that kind of skis, they’re dangerous” “people think they’re more ‘fun’ but they aren’t”. I hope he didn’t bash the boards only due to the shorter length because that would be pretty stupid. I’m quite sure he thought that my boards had low quality materials and simple non-release bindings. I didn’t get a chance but I really wanted to let him know that good boards have solid wood cores, sharp metal edges and proper release bindings.

Sadly likely true. People have no idea just how safe and stable these are- truly as safe as it gets with the release bindings and much less torque on knees with short length. Way to be out there representing! 🙂

I haven't yet but I was on the mountain with people who were riding them once. It seems they only work well on very hardpack conditions and are quite slow in comparison. They looked like fun for slower skate maneuvers though!

What size are the ski boards you run most of the time?

I personally use the 88, 99, and 106 cm most of the time (this is Cam here). 88 mostly for spin and technical tricks, and 99/106 are excellent all-around skiboards for powder, chop, groomers, etc. All depends on your main locations for skiboarding and what preferences you have.

Would you say that skiboards are easier for a new skier that is a decent casual ice skater? I've only skied a few times, and still only on some blue trails, but the simplicity of either skiboards or a snowboard appeal to me. I hate clunking around in the ski boots, awkwardly carrying skis and poles.

They 100% will be easier for you to use from day one regardless if you are a skater or not, and as a skater, you are going to excel on them especially fast. The shorter length makes them far less clunky than skis and much more skate-like. Also, you can try our Alpina skiboard boots or our snowboard boot binding setups for a much comfier (and still supportive) time for your feet!

For a beginner, you'd like the EZ 95 or Easy Rider 79. The Sk8 96 is excellent for beginners as well. The ski release binding will also provide the most safety possible in the event of a fall.

What are they like in deep powder and icy conditions?

They work excellent in icy conditions and powder. Due to more pounds of pressure per inch of edge (and camber underfoot) you can get a good bite into ice. The rockered and wide skiboards are the ones that work best in powder. I have taken the GroovN 106cm in the video through lots of deep powder (around a foot or so depth so far) without problem. You just put a bit more weight on heels compared to traditional powder skiing. The Invertigo 118 rockered skiboards are a favorite for powder as well. kzbin.info_KFkF43X9l4?si=rK7wR9HZ7lXVKtlH

Apart from using these to just mess around and just do dumb stuff for fun, they seem quite pointless. There are more cons than pros, you can’t hit rails or atleast do any swaps on rails, u cant butter or do any presses due to them being so short, you can’t really use them for bigger jumps cuz they won’t have the stability of a full length ski and would honestly make it dangerous to hit big kickers, and all the hand drags and stuff he was doing can all be done with full length skis as you don’t need poles to ski and u will be able to butter
