All the tourism soon will have destroyed this little island...
@martinmueller1967 Жыл бұрын
Why do you think that?
@henriettanovember4733 Жыл бұрын
@@martinmueller1967 I do not think it I know it as this island is my family home for many generations. The tourists are everywhere. We do not have enough water in the summers due to too many people coming to the island. People camp everywhere with no respect for nature or other people's property. The demand for summerhouses so big that farmers sell land and take down forest to sell for building new summerhouses...the list can go on and on. More and more old farms are sold as summerhouses to people from the mainland, from Germany or other parts of Europe...I wish it was not so. I wish we had laws in Sweden to deal with this. I wish it was not all about money. I wish there were a way to have sustainable tourism and a way to have sustainable summerhouse-living on this island. But as long as Money is what decides this will never be so. I wish I could see less tourists every summer and see tourists that walk gently on my island with respect for nature and that I when I see a tourist could greet them from my heart and say :Welcome! Perhaps one day...(I do hope you do not find me wicked for writing this but it is a sorrow to see my home island more and more strain under the pressure of tourism. Of course there are decent tourists too who are very respectful. But they are too few these days...)

@@henriettanovember4733 Thank you for your detailed reply. I can absolutely understand your opinion. There are too many people on this planet and money rules the world. It's a tragedy, but unfortunately the truth. There are people who respect the culture and nature when visiting another country. Me, my wife and my friends do this. We really enjoyed our time on Gotland. We met a friendly family and I think we were friendly too. :-) There are just too many people who suffer from nature. We can't turn back in time, but we can show people how precious nature is. I am a photographer, I enjoy the nature and always leave it as it was found. Nonetheless, I hope you enjoyed the film a little. Best regards Martin

@@martinmueller1967 The film is very beautiful! And of course we cannot turn back time. But I hope we humans will realize that we cannot go on as we are or we will soon have consumed not only my dear home island but the whole planet. It was not my intention to be rude or disrespectful, if I was I am sorry. I am just very concerned about what is happening on my home island. Pax et Bonum!

@@henriettanovember4733 I can understand your concern very well. It is sometimes unbearable how people deal with their world. No, you weren't rude. I understand you very well. To the commenters thinking we hide the whaling: its not like anyone from the faroes hides the fact that we do kill whales. We do not have any problem discussing it. I havent met anyone who doesnt want to. rather the opposite, people here dont mind telling their views on the matter, openly, and also respect anyones view on it. We have free speech here thank god. Not everyone is for the whaling in the faroes either. Thats just obvious. Doesnt matter the subject, there will always be people for and against, same goes for the whaling in the faroes. You cant just think all faroe islanders are idiots. Its the lousy sea shepherd crew and their supporters who want you to think that we have something to hide, and do you want to know why ? Theyre actually quite smart. They want everyone to think its something we hide so that they can enter the island and "reveal" something "horrendous" during the well played and well edited lousy ridicuous shows, only so they can "document" something and gain money from it. Gain money from emotional people like yourself, believing they actually "exposed" us when in reality we all are already openly speaking about it. We have our flaws, which we are aware of, just like any other country has its flaws. Nothing is perfect and improvements can always be made, and exactly that is something I think the Faroe Islanders actually are experts on. The whaling has been documented and regulated and improved by the locals for as long as we can go back. The Sea shepherds are gaining Millions of money from emotional people like you whom they know will believe anything they try to brainwash you with. Have you ever thought about how much theyre actually disturbing the whales during the recordings of the shows? do you think they actually really care about the wellbeing of the whales ? they only go for the money unfortunately. Thats the sad truth. By sailing around the islands for the duration theyre doing only to "save" some whales is actually ruining the environemt even more than necessary. How much oil is being spilled into the ocean by their rectless behaviour ?? This is the saddest thing to witness. Their supporters are also extremely rude to local people when they enter the country, which is the main reason we dont like having them here. We are otherwise a very welcoming bunch of people. They have been brainwashed to think we are some barbaric primitive blood sucking awful people. Its obvious theyve been ordered to try to get into heated discussions with locals only to "document" some more how afwul we are. Yes, there are some local people who might take it personally unfortunately, when being approached by the intentionally rude SS crew, and whom they unfortuantely end up taking advantage of, as thats what theyre only really looking for to do here on the islands. How will they otherwise get paid if they dont do their "job" here ? Do you really want to support something like that ? By being more intentionally rude againt the locals and splitting us up even more on the matter, and hence never finding proper solutions to the problem, and again this will just continue to feed their pockets with money from emotional supporters. The whaling was actually about to diminish by the time the Sea Shepherds entered the islands the first time many years ago, and so maybe it automatically would have stopped with time by disinterest by locals, if it wasnt for the Sea Shepherd interfering and aggressively attacking us people, trying to make us look bad. This made people go into defensive mode and just hunt even more to prove them wrong. You see the issue ? By continuing attacking us, rather than talking like civilized people on the matter, the whaling will never stop. We will just continue fighting against each other. And by this, you will make the Sea Shepherd more and more rich... and also allowing them to ruin our environment even more. Try doing a quick google search on the founder of Sea Shepherd, Paul Watson. You will quickly see he doesnt have a clean background. Interpol has issued a 'red' notice against Paul Watson. So what about instead of just believing every headline there is out there about the whaling in the faroes, just come to our country and listen to what locals have to say ? I think thats better than listening to some foreigner who doesnt know well enough whats actually going on or rather wants to continue making us look like we are awfully bad people all of us. I wish more people actually realized what the sea shepherds crew intentions are instead of just religiously listen to every word they have to say. Base your own opinion on your own research. And finally, if youre agaist the whaling, then thats okay, we respect your opinion too.

Every folk has its traditions. Some are worth preserving, others are no longer up to date and should be checked. But only the Faroe people should do that. But none of that changes the fact that the Faroe Islands are a wonderful place toe be, with great nature and friendly people. I will come back.
