I live just a few miles west of What Cheer, in another small town of Rose Hill, IA. Although they have been gone for many years now, the bars in What Cheer used to the place to go for drinks on a Saturday night.

Thanks for sharing this story. I didn't know if there were any Ben Franklins still around today. I grew up in Issaquah, Washington, near Seattle, and as a kid I often went to the Ben Franklin store there. The great thing about it was that they had such a wide variety of stuff for every kind of person and every aspect of life. Yes, always fun surprises to be found walking and looking around inside, as the video mentions. I often bought craft supplies there because I liked to make things as a kid. It was the best place to get ready for Halloween. :- ) Thanks for this fun look at this store today. Wish I could stroll through and buy a few things there. Best wishes to the owners and the store!

I love this store. When i was a little kid, my mom would give me $2. I would ride my bicycle halfway across town. I always got a snickers and either a diet coke or ruby red squirt. Times were better than 😢...

Is there any way to get an invitation to such events in the future? I mean, how can we be notified of the events dates and where can we buy tickets?

Ben Franklin definitely was a fun store. I don't get the same feeling from Michaels or similar places. It seemed to have more stuff in smaller spaces. Better quality items than you can get today also.

This art style is very popular in eastern europe on furniture(Hungary, Romania, Moldova). In fact that's the only place i've seen it in real life.

Britt, Iowa, my hometown. I've many memories (late 1960s to early 1980s childhood) of ours: Penny candy, Halloween mask and costume boxes, greeting cards, vinyl LPs, Pet Rocks, Mexican jumping beans, training bras, board games, etc. If a purchase was a gift, you got free wrapping secured with a ribbbon that was given a curl via a scissors' edge. 😊

i have noticed in the last 20 years that there are a lot less birds in florida than there was when i was a kid 70 years ago. i also live in michigan and haven't noticed it as much there. i also know there are much less frogs and turtles in michigan than there use to be.

enjoyed the video. i remember the local dime store when i was a kid 70 years ago. before walmart, kmart and all the rest. the main big store was sears. you had to go into the city for that.

This is a great video! It showcases the importance of how environmental/mural art shapes our perceptions, impacts our well being, and demonstrates how citizens can be actively engaged with art in our communities.
