For downscaling, you should consider a GBS-C, RetroTink from the 5x Pro or 4K, or OSSC Pro. I know there's a good few videos folks made on this site that covers downscaling, and shows what it looks like as a result. Also shoutout, because you're in my home state of GA. :D

@Apple2gs7 күн бұрын
It doesn't. I've been gaming since the early-80's and a 27" Sony Wega is the sweet spot for me (plus most arcade monitors were only 20-25"; and gaming at home, I've used 9", 12", 14", 20", 25" and 27" displays). Though I guess some gamers just like the HUGE display. Personally, I find anything bigger than 27" becomes a nightmare to move or find space for.

The thing that's special about the FV310 is the high voltage regulator. Aka vertical and horizontal bloom control, similar to what they used in professional monitors, PVMs, and BVMs. For the Europeans, the KV-29X2 also got it. These are the only 2 consumer sets that I know of that got that deluxe treatment.
@herpyderpyderp2 ай бұрын
what does it do to the picture?
@jagheterhopp2 ай бұрын
@@herpyderpyderp Bloom control. For example, if you have a large bright object in the picture on a standard CRT set, you can see everything around that bright object gets pushed away or expands slightly around that bright object. This effect is exaggerated if you turn the contrast up high. Though it depends on the quality of the flyback transformer and tube health. The best way to test it is with a flashing test image or by connecting the CRT TV to a computer and turning the contrast up high and dragging a bright object around on the screen.
@herpyderpyderp2 ай бұрын
@@jagheterhopp interesting. i have a newer CRT TV that can get really bright, i need to test if it does that. i remember reading about this issue on cheaper PC monitors.
@Apple2gs7 күн бұрын
@@jagheterhopp - I think it can also cause slight distortions of bright objects. For example, if I display a white square on a black background, the left-side of the square will slightly slope inwards towards the bottom....but return to a normal shape (perfectly straight line) if I slide the square over to the center or right side of the screen. I get this with my Sony KV-27FS12 from 2000, but not my older Sony KV-27SXR10 from 1989 (which I think has a higher quality voltage regulator).

I think were way more likely to see LED panels that have upscaling and scanline replication, like what you see from the ossc or framemeister, but built into the TV. Kind of like how cars have fake manual transmission modes. It will probably look decent enough but not like the real thing.

Something to keep in mind about the HD CRTs the use case is more suited for 34kHz (540p and 1080i) and in some cases 31kHz (480p 60Hz, 576p 50Hz) if you set your PlayStation 4 Pro to 1080i it should be lagless, I’m assuming that HD CRT supports 480p which will make it fantastic for PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, Wii for games that support 480p, the 1080i mode will be great for games that support 1080i (Xbox in rare cases, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5) also Nintendo Switch in 480p should be lagless

one day all CRT TV's will be dead . all CRT's suffer from imperfect vaccuming . it's impossible to create a pefect vaccum . and CRT's are always letting just a few miniscule particles of air in. over time this gets worse and worse , and eventually you start hearing the dreaded "whine" that is the tv being turned on causing the glass to heat up and thus more seapage to occur ... then one day you'll turn it on and hear a small pop ... that is one of two things that make that pop and they are both vaccum components , 1 the transformer blew (this is still readily fixable if you know a repair shop that will touch a CRT tv ) the second cause of that pop is the CRT tube itself finnally giving out to the ravages of time ... and this , this is not fixable. sad but one day in the future no one wil be able to enjoy old games on the displays they were designed for.
@Apple2gs7 күн бұрын
@DenverStarkey - They can also suffer phosphor burn in, which cannot be fixed. Or gradual loss of color, brightness and focus over time. The latter may be fixable with a tube rejuvenation, or making voltage adjustments to the flyback, though both only extend the life of the CRT--you cannot keep doing it indefinitely. I have Mitsubishi tube CRT's where the flyback is dying (picture continuously gets brighter as it warms up, and screws up the focus) but I cannot find a compatible replacement. That's the problem, finding replacement parts as these displays age and need maintenance. It depresses me thinking one day all my CRT's will eventually fail and not be repairable, but I'm trying to enjoy them for as long as they last. Hopefully they out last me hah.
@DenverStarkey6 күн бұрын
@@Apple2gs well newer ones will most definitely die eventually but i've sen some old ones that lasted and lasted never giving up. my grandma had one that was built in the 60's and that thing is still working flawlessly at my uncle's house. (he inheirted the house when my grandma passed ) . while tv's we bought in the late 90's ahve been toast for 15 years now.
@Apple2gs23 сағат бұрын
@ - Older appliances were built to last, so there's some truth to that statement! Still, the more hours you put on a CRT, the more it wears out. It can take decades of daily use before it becomes noticeable though. I was lucky the 24 year old Sony Wega TV I just recently found has low hours. Or at least I think it does, the color, brightest and sharpness look like it just came out of the box! Ditto with a 12" computer CRT monitor I got last year. It's from 1988 and the case is discolored, but I swear the picture looks like it just came off the assembly line! The last owner's kids must've barely used it!
