I’ve had the L2 for about two years. Just upgraded to the L4. I just wanted a little bit more deck space and the ability to carry my wife and dog and not be overloading the thing. For some reason, man, I still get a little nervous going in the open ocean, but I do it regardless. I guess my concern is sharks. Sometimes I fly my drone when I’m out there and I’ve seen a lot of shark in the ocean. I know the board is stable and I have probably nothing to worry about. It’s all in my head. Do you ever have any close calls fishing from your board in the ocean? I live in Sarasota and typically go out off of longboat key or siesta key. Thanks for the videos. I’m a new subscriber here. Just found your channel.
@RamseyFisher
@RamseyFisher 3 күн бұрын
Hey! Thanks for the comment! And I’ve never had any concerns with sharks really. I’ve come across a few, I always believe they are looking to eat something other than me even if I were to fall overboard haha. But my main concern with taking the paddleboard into open water (ocean etc) is if the winds change or maybe currents change and you are at risk of not being able to paddle back into the shore. Always be mindful of the weather, some serious storms have blown in and I’ve had to make quick trips into the beach to save my ass (and my gear primarily). So I would encourage you to keep an eye on weather and water conditions. I love the L4 and the space it offers. I take my wife all the time and plan to take my baby with us once she’s more exposed to the water.
@milehigherik
@milehigherik 3 күн бұрын
@@RamseyFisher yeah I definitely am a weather watcher. I take zero risks out there. I definitely check the tides to ensure I can get back in through the moving water. I just ordered a trolling motor and setup so I have a little more range on the water. Thanks for your insight and content. ✌🏼

Additional question, do you know if, once you add a 6hp motor, if you have to register it with DNR? Its not a boat, so its not clear to me.
@RamseyFisher
@RamseyFisher Ай бұрын
I do not know exactly on the registering. I do think I have seen some of these boards that have registration numbers on them when they had a gas motor. I would love to have just an electric motor on the front.
@averageeverydayfishermansh4501
@averageeverydayfishermansh4501 15 күн бұрын
I think that will be state dependent but in FL anytime you add a motor (electric, trolling, gas) it does need to be registered. If you just used it as a paddleboard, you would not need to register it but as soon as you put the motor on it you do. Again, that's Florida though and it depends on your state.

how durable is the bottom of these for like going down rivers and possibly hitting rocks? Is it easy to repair or would you not use it going down a river?

For what they are, they are pretty durable. I would love to river travel with it, but I would be hesitant to take it down a river with shallow/rocky bottom.

Bro I absolutely love your videos. Ive been fishing Pineland a lot but am taking a break after learning my lesson about not depending on trolling motors. Anyway your videos teach me a lot and give me a deeper respect for the fish as well and MOSTLY get me suuuper excited to go fishing. Im new to boating and am running a 14ft Jonboat with trolling motors so my range is super limited but I would love to see you fish Pineland Pine Island! Tons of grassflats
@RamseyFisher
@RamseyFisher Ай бұрын
Man, I love this comment! Thank you! I have to get out of my comfort zone and fish some new places. I have fished Pineland by boat, amazing grass flats, but never from my paddleboard. I am excited to fish more places in SWFL and definitely have to launch my paddleboard for matlacha and pineland. I have a huge passion for fishing and the fish themselves. I do often keep fish to eat, but am very big on respecting the fish and doing a lot of catch and release too. You sound like you can do some work in that Jonboat though! Those things are super versatile, but always keep some paddles onboard for a backup if you have some motor problems! Haha.
