I was there at this as a little kid! I have the signed programme still to prove it. Lord, did that man know his way around a Snooker Table.....just look at that kiss on the Pink from the pot on the Red! Exquisite. I always find it hilarious when people say "he couldn't have lived with the Players of today" - admittedly he was dreadfully inconsistent but when he was truly on excellent Form and in peak "stroke / form" he produced a quality of Snooker which would have flummoxed almost everyone in today's Top 16. I genuinely believe that. It's just a tragedy that he rarely produced his Best - because his real and true Best would be very hard indeed to cope with by ANY player of ANY era, including today!

I always remember Ray Reardon saying with analysis comes paralysis that was a great insight into the mental side of snooker I agree totally younger generation play with no fear the fear of losing can be a mental block from winning .

A great example of being the top man in your field and also being a nice man. So much to be said for that, Ray was a geezer.

Watching this in 2024. Great interview a real good find. They were both in their 40's when this was filmed but they look so young compared to today

Not one of these players would stand a chance today, Including Hendry & Davis with a CPFR of 6-59% and 2_39% . And we witnessed that when Hendry came back on a wild card . He never went beyond fist round . Said for years on social media Davis & Hendry are frauds of the top 5 greatest player of all time debate!

that pink at 15-13...the stuff of nightmares. It came from taking a bit too long over the blue, and losing position a tiny bit.

I cant begin to say how much I enjoyed this show, I have never had satellite TV, so I had no chance of seeing this at the time. I always liked Tony Knowles, and if memory serves, he won the 6 ball tournament not so long ago, which was no surprise to me. I always wondered why he never made a bigger mark on the snooker Championships, a bit like Mathew Stevens, two players I thought would do better than they did, but are still up there in my top 16 players of all time. This is the best technical discussion I have ever heard about snooker, and there is so much information that is never spoken about, I enjoyed every minute. What a great series, I have not watched them all yet, but the Clive Everton and David Vine episodes were excellent. I always wondered how Clive became a commentator, as nobody ever eludes to how it took place. I have always watched and enjoyed snooker, and I have always though Ronnie was the biggest talent to pick up a cue, I had a very good friend called Jamie, with a very similar style and attitude. He would be having a bad day, and still out playing anyone around him, but he would get upset he was not playing well enough, many a time he has broken his cue in disgust with himself. Thanks for uploading this episode, it answers so many questions about Tony Knowles that I always wanted to know. I would like to hear a similar thing with Mathew Stevens, but that will probably never happen.

No characters at all in snooker today 1980s was best time for sport, so many characters i remember as a kid, like you all do. White working class heroes are no-more in england, or in white countries.

I seen Kirk play at the 999 snooker hall on Seymore and Neilson st in Vancouver with Big Bill ,also in mind on of the best players was JIM Bear.Year was 1976 maybe ,Kirk made a shot on a pink that was crazy good .I also think he would have won the WC if he dedicated everything to doing it.

Kirk and the late Dean O'Kane reminded me of Alex the way they moved on the shot. Not as bad as Higgins but they had that natural ability to defy the norm. Great to watch.
