Alex always came across, to me, as a very intelligent man, beautifully spoken, lucid and technically a snooker genius, so good to hear this commentary.

Problem was because nobody played like him he was hopeless at predicting what shots other snooker player's played.

13:22. Watch this, for all you who say these former players couldn't play and unlike today, they had less time to practice and had jobs before starting to play pro as very young men!

john Virgo had that jimmy white thing, where by he aimed at a spot on the white, then hit a different part when hitting.
@COLEEN3228 жыл бұрын
I often do the same with my wife, most of the time i will aim at her face, but at the very last second i will "switch" and strike her very forcefully in the abdomen region or another part of her body. Needless to say she cries profusely which was the purpose of me doing it.

Lord Nelson you're hitting it with side, maybe a forceful follow through might be better next time

Things I noticed - while he got things wrong, he could've been an insightful co-commentator but I could be wrong but he seemed nervous with Ted Lowe while Clive Everton sounded just a touch nervous being in the booth with him. But yeah, probably about as reliable as UK/Irish weather. Plus seeing Bill Werbeniuk - if you could outdrink him, you must be insane.

There's more starch in Everton's commentary than in Benjamin Disraeli's old dress shirts. He takes all the joy out of the sport.

John was a far better player off the table, much like Willie who was the absolute 147 king. Sadly, when they were both put in front of a tv camera they often came undone.. Alex to me was the sports only true genius, sadly true genius comes with equally insurmountable flaws.

Margaret Cronin They can all play, so you feel that players today would give them no chances at all? In fact, more money and tournaments means that they don't have to travel each day to exhibitions, so consider those benefits over the old guard!
@GaryNumanfan-uo3nz4 жыл бұрын
Reardon, Davis, Hendry, Alex, Jimmy, Spencer and Griffiths, under the same conditions (amount of tournaments, considerably less travel, protections etc) would be appearing in the business end of tournaments on a regular basis.
@christopherfarrington92703 жыл бұрын
@@charliemagri1669 also playing conditions are a lot better now with improved cloths under heated tables extensions better ball composition ect ect they are all capable of knocking big breaks in but alex higgins break against jimmy white in the semi finals of the world champion ship 1982 will never be surpassed by anyone.
