Before I watch this, I’m going to give my opinion on this episode. I never liked it. I was frustrated with the narration of it. The father, in my opinion was in a desperate spot, trying to protect his only family member left (his disabled son). To do so, he colonized a place where no one lived to survive. Later after the fire nation (who disabled his son to begin with) threatened him, he built weapons for them. When Aang comes along, he’s upset with what they did to the temple (understandable, he is a kid), and when he finds out the guy is using the air temple to make weapons for the fire nation, he’s furious (again understandable). But here’s where things fall apart. He stops the guy from selling weapons to the fire nation, thus causing the fire nation to come and attack. He tells the people that they just need to stand up to the fire nation and not bow to them. Now, the problem is that the narrative proves Aang right in every way, that all the people needed to do was fight against the fire nation, even though they didn’t have the resources or ideas to do that until Aang and his friends showed up. Here’s the thing, some people can’t stand up to their bullies. These people were just doing what they could to survive, and the scientist was just trying to protect everyone else. But then Aang comes along and says that all they need to do is fight the fire nation, like yeah, ok. Now Aang is a child, and his reaction is totally understandable. Again, the only problem is the fact that the narrative proves him completely and utterly in the right. Edit- I guess I don’t share your opinion 😂

They should have kept it as a full moon only thing, not during the day and psychic bloodbending. Also, taking away somones bending with bloodbending is BROKEN. should have kept it as it was in avatar.

You're joking right? This is one of the worst episodes. It doesn't really develop any of the characters. In fact it is very uncharacteristic. The humour is OK, but ruined by the fact that nothing makes sense, along with the many continuity errors. The only thing making this better than the painted lady or the great divide, is the short Zuko sub-plot

Bruh, the fact that Katara in the FIRST episode was able to massively change the way the water was moving when she was mad and not actually trying??? Katara is not a prodigy in the normal sense like Azula, Azula was able to grasp and perfect techniques far faster than most and absolutely outshines Zuko on a fundamentals and power level. Katara as you mentioned is getting more and more effective in precise and specific skills such as the sweat bending scene AND Hama is helping her to grasp the ideas and fundamentals that it represents. Plain and simple Katara is equal to or better than Aang on the power level for water bending in this episode and her specialized techniques are FAR surpassing his. It is constantly reinforced throughout the show that, while he is getting the hang of many of them, Aang is not a specialist, he is a generalist with great power. Katara is inventive and very aware of what can be done within her own element and while Aang does the same in his element, air, he spends far more of his time using other elements to substitute innovations in those other elements than making drastic and unique innovations in those ones. In sum, Katara is really fucking powerful and the fact that she has learned things the way she did makes the situation that she finds herself in on the full moon pretty reasonable. Getting control of herself from Hama is a result of her power and ability to learn technique and Aang not being able to fight it off is fair in the sense that he has never been anything BENT before.

Plot?

My guess is that bumi knew that the best thing for aang was to learn from the new masters who would have new and unique skills and philosophies. As well as teachers he could learn and grow with.

I wish they had made it so after the war Aang built a new air temple, and maybe now that it’s safe the collector and his people move off the mountain.

It is a bit OP, but its comparable to the other "tertiary" bending forms like bending metal or lightning. It requires a high level of skill to accomplish and was created by a master, passed down to another master.

theres a few points i want to make in a section where you said that it didn't make scense that ozai banished zuko, so first zuko was not because he spoke out but because he didn't fight his father, 2 even if he spoke out agaist the general it was in his fathers thorne room and presence not that it matterd to ozai anyway bc in the comics it shows that scince zuko was young his father alredy wanted to get rid of him

Katara vs the general wasn’t that bad, she definitely would have put up a better fight if she had more access to water but as we saw in the show it was quickly taken away from her leaving her vulnerable, and with the whole burying thing I don’t think it’s as OP as people think it is, I can imagine it doesn’t work too well on fast moving opponents

Hama would been a great teacher if katara used this Ability (Bloodbending) to hold Azula (i know that would not been her Style).

I hope if they made another series with an Avater after Korra, they will explore other Bendings (who are called evil). Avatar the last Airbender is a different Story, this doesn't mean the legend of korra is not better or something both series describe different issues.

Other earth benders don’t do this because they got to much pride; won’t accept a easy fight for example toph would want to win gloriously instead of u just getting stuck and quitting

If you think about it, all bending is broken. Earth bending is broken as you could immediately start breaking your opponents feet and quickly their entire body. (Not too far away from what we see here) Water bending is broken. As you could make a water ball go down your opponents wind pipe, drowning them (we saw katara bend water into people's mouth. Its the next logical step.) Fire bending could be used the same way then to kill someone by buring their lungs, or alternatively by explosively expanding the air in someone's head(, like failed lighning bending, as Zuko displayed). Air bending can just suffocate people. (See Zaheer) One move kills, using the standard bending styles, without any sub styles.

You could look at "Tales of Ba Sing Se". Or you could do a character or worldbuilding analysis.

It is sad that Hama and Gran Gran can't see each other anymore. Maybe it for the best cause Hama has gone crazy, and might used blood bending in the tribe from PTSD😢. (This is a theory only)

Gran gran was originally from the northern water tribe tho so it’s possible that Hama was abducted before gran gran actually came to the southern water tribe

Blood ending is not to overpowered because mako used electricity

it honestly does not matter how strong it is because it has high skill requirement, environmental requirement, and even a drawback in terms of morality. there are so many reasons blood bending could not be used that it evens out how op it is. this is like saying an ultimate ability in a video game is over powered even though the whole point is that it has high reward and therefore it needs high cost.

From what we saw in the series we’d know Hama and gran gran were friends because when Hama was taken away the first woman that we see that is very sad look a lot like Katara that is because that was gran gran (this is just a theory)

Hama's goal was always to pass on her skill/technique to Katara. She WANTED Katara to learn and demonstrate blood bending. Katara gaining control over her own body showed that she was starting to bloodbend, at least blood bend herself. I think Hama pulled back her attack on Katara once she did this, bc again she WANTED Katara to blood bend. The next step was to blood bend another, which she did on Hama. Hama knew she was old, and not long for the world. She may have even died in prison shortly after (or been put to death). She didn't care, bc he goal of passing on the skill to a younger water bender was complete. Katara wasn't "stronger" she was just younger, and probably had a lot more energy to fight old lady Hama, who also never wanted Katara to loose.

Hanma is one of my favourite characters, But I think that the show introduced her in a bad way, Imagine that when team Avatar arrived to the village they saw a large crowd and when they get closer, they see Hanma and her puppet show, everyone in the crowd tell Team Avatar that her puppet show is the best (the village is well known beacuse of his great puppet master), Team avatar and especially Katara is very impressed from Hanma skills, Hanma find out that Katara is from the south water nation (she saw her nackless) and invites Team Avatar to her home and tell them about her story, but this time when she was young Katara's mother (they were best friends) taught her how to control puppets, and when she was in prison, she develop this technique and learn how to control humans. That will make Hanma fake persona to a realy important person in the village intead of an ordinary old woman.

Love the video. Respectfully, katara IS a prodigy. She's not a sevant who instinctively picks things up like aang did with 3 of the 4 elements, she does have to work. But not very hard. She has so much talent she went from struggling to wrangle a wave to competent fighter just from hanging out with aang to show her bending basics that are universal to all martial arts, and stealing one waterbending scroll. Then she leveled up to master in the month (tops) she was in the north pole. She is a stronger waterbender than aang (throughout the lore, we see evidence of avatar companions being better benders of their native element than their avatar sans avatar state) so it absolutely makes sense that a waterbender of her caliber boosted by the full moon could shrug off that shit when properly motivated.

It's more science than magic. For example metalbending isn't bending the metal, it's bending the impurities inside the metal
