One of my favourite Welsh songs! I'm most familiar with the Eve Goodman version, which has an additional verse rather than repeating the first - in that verse, the singer is so lovestruck that they cannot see the point in playing their harp if their sweetheart isn't paying any attention to it.

Esta muy bien hecho! Por casualidad se inspiraron en Varulven de Garmarna?
@Vilsevind
@Vilsevind 3 ай бұрын
Gracias!

:) Here you go: A sailor's wife shall wear blue clothes Stay, oh lads, belay To look like a billow as she goes Hold fast, me boys A sailor's wife shall be like a stone Stay, oh lads, belay To be on her own, to face the unknown Hold fast, me boys A sailor's wife shall learn how to sing Stay, oh lads, belay To soothe the storm, to soften its sting Hold fast, me boys A sailor's wife shall stay on dry land Stay, oh lads, belay Never ever to live adventure firsthand Hold fast, me boys One day the sailor fell on a knife Stay, oh lads, belay She left the strand, no longer a wife Hold fast, me boys She shortened her hair, took note of the tide Stay, oh lads, belay She rode the blue billows, let the wind be her guide Hold fast, me boys

Sueco aquí. Esta es una hermosa canción. Pero... ¿no entiendo cómo es sueco? El nombre "Kalabalik" es una palabra sueca, pero ¿eso es todo? Hope I got it right. Been learning for 2 years now and I feel relatively confident in my ability to express simply questions. If it wasn't, I trying to express that I find the song beautiful, but I'm wondering how it is Swedish other than the name "Kalabalik"?

Hola, gracias por tu comentario :) Escribes muy bien en español! So it's like this: We are a Swedish-Argentine duo living in Gothenburg,. We do not really limit our music to one particular genre, if something it would be progressive folk? This means we experiment a lot in our records, that do contain mainly traditional and modern Swedish folk tunes. In this case, it's more on the Celtic side, as the music is based on a Scottish fiddle tune by Shetland fiddler Aly Bain. The tune is called Woo'd an' marrit an' a and we expanded upon it. The lyrics are in Spanish because Sergio wanted to honour his heritage and create an interesting song for the Spanish speaking audience. So this song is kind of an outlier. We invite you to listen to our other songs, if you want to check out the Swedish folk tunes. All the best!

I followed this song back throught the many versions. So far this all points back to a Scottish folk song but doesn't mean it started there so honestly this could be where it came from. Everyone adda and takes away in folk music

Hi BlazeLycan, thanks for your interest in our song! The lyrics are not based on any particular historical event but as a work of fiction encompass the true story of many islands in the North Sea like St. Kilda and the Outer Hebrides in Scotland, and remote corners of diverse Scandinavian locations where without community living life was simply too hard.
@BlazeLycan

@@Vilsevind Ah, so it's like a composite "based on true events" from multiple islands. That is quite interesting. I do very much enjoy the song as well! I'm Swedish and I'm actually learning Spanish for nearly 2 years now (more if we count half of 4th grade in a Scandinavian School in Valencia and the years 7-9 of primary schooling in Solna), so it is a blast to sing this song because of that. I've learned some new words like "mar", what I assume to be some dialectal variance of pronouncing "llegue" with that sort of 'tj' sound, as well as familiarizing myself with the less enunciated "Se hundirán" (which sounds to my ears more like 'Sundirán'). Great for my learning, y una canción muy buena!
