Great chat Deb! Loved hearing about Sandy's travels. I lived in a Southern Cypriot wine village, in the vineyard for over eight years - loved the tasting sessions! Wonderful interview. It's always interesting to hear from different authors on the process of writing and editing. The amount of hours that goes into everything related to one book is quite astonishing.

What a beautiful commute to work. 🍂🧡 I was extremely interested in what you were saying about not all ideas can be books. I am wondering at what point you decide an idea is not going to work as a full novel? Do you write out a synopsis or a type of mind map? Or do you just start writing it as a story with the knowledge that it might not be a book worthy idea and never come to fruition? Or do you pitch it to your publisher? I have lots of ideas written down, quite a few scenes, and can sometimes write 4000 words in one go (of course it might just be a load of waffle or nonsense😄) - I keep going back to them all but I'm not sure if I'm convinced they can't develop/work as a full novel, or if it's just the voice of self-doubt!🤔

I write out an outline for my books but they're short so not much detail. I think if there isn't enough story in an idea to sustain a book there are ways to make it work eg, add another strand, or a subplot, maybe take the story in a different direction to an original idea, or maybe add an antagonist to add extra conflict for the protagonist. I wish I could write 4000 words today, that's a wonderful amount! You're probably just suffering from self-doubt, I have that with every book I write. Just keep powering through. Good luck!

I haven't had a chance to finish Postcards from Puffin Island yet because I was sent a book by a publisher to read for me to give a quote. I love doing that and it's a fabulous historical novel. This sort of thing fascinates me. I've just downloaded your An Island at War book and I'm looking forward to reading it. Must be a strange feeling, living on Jersey and knowing what happened there during the war. Such a terrible time for the Channel Islanders. Great video and happy writing! xx

Thank you so much, I hope you enjoy An Island at War. It is odd especially more so since I've been researching and writing historical fiction. I walk my dogs a lot at Les Landes where there are many bunkers, gun placements, etc some cleared and others partially hidden in the gorse. So many mementoes all over the island. xx
