Hi your ORCA FIN WITH THE CLAMP MOUNT is an amazing product!!! My crestliner discovery 1450 with a 40 Mercury outboard had a serious problems with HIGH BOW RISE to where I couldn't see in front of me and the boat would not plane, even at full throttle. The ORCA FIN was added to my boat along with a 4 blade propeller and both problems are gone. There is virtually no bow rise and the boat planes almost immediately!!!! This video truly shows the effectiveness of the ORCA FIN. Thank you!

Do these fins replace or compliment trim tabs?
@gerardhaubert82104 жыл бұрын
Do these replace or used in conjunction with smart trim tabs?
@UncleNormsMarine4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gerard, These products are designed for use with trim tabs. Trim tabs and whale tails (Dolphin and Orca Fins) do different things to affect the wander and turn of your boat due to the placement. The whale tail or hydrofoils are effective at speed, our Orca Fin addresses the wander as well as the trim aspect. Generally boats that are powered by an inboard/ outboard or outboard motor rely on the thrust to give the boat directional control which is fine at high power and speed; however at low speed you have very little control and the boat wanders. The Orca fin adds triple the rudder that actively adds control as long as there is water flowing over them. Even at zero thrust, when you are out of gear, you still have steering because of the rudders. The large FLUKE or flat area between the rudders acts like a powerful trim tab. Because it is farther back than trim tabs, it has more leverage or influence on the boat. You can easily control the trim with your tilt trim control.

Don't you think putting the screw heads on the bottom and the nuts on top would have much less truculence around the prop
@UncleNormsMarine4 жыл бұрын
Hi Roland, For the purpose of this installation video, we decided to show the screw heads on top in order to provide the clearest visual demonstration. The screw heads can be installed on the bottom of the No-Drill Clamp Set without any issue for people who are worried about propeller interference/turbulence. We have customers install them both ways, and neither have had any issues. Thank you for your comment!
@rolandjacques649 Жыл бұрын
Of course the hardware oriented like that will decrease performance. But I doubt unless you are measuring, most people would not notice a 15%-30% decrease in lift. Remember this is a flat plate not a foil. It's the able of atack that is causing the pressure differential. The nuts and extra bolt length would have far less impact on the low pressure side.
@rolandjacques649 Жыл бұрын
@user-vn8ps9eg3b sorry for my type error. It is acting like a foil but it is only the AOA "Angle Of Atack" that is creating the pressure differential. Doesn't matter ether way it functions the same as a foil. Believe it or not turbulence does effect it and that is fact.

Looks to me like a left hand hole saw would have done the trick.
@Bogibar11 жыл бұрын
2 FAST945, The hole saw is only one method of opening up the filter can. In most cases, the filter can has already been ripped open by having screw drivers punched through it after the can was crushed by a typical removal tool. This is a tool of last resort, when the normal and more usual ways have failed.
@Bogibar11 жыл бұрын
Keven, Under normal conditions a 3 finger tool might get the job done but this is not about normal operations. This is about when all the normal methods have already failed. This is no ones first choice but it will get the job done.
@2fast94511 жыл бұрын
...and all of those metal fillings everywhere now just waiting to ruin your day again, (or your engine) This is poor engineering practice guys... you definately chose the hard road to get the job done.
@husa62811 жыл бұрын
that is the most stupid tool ever , Why don't you put the two pins of the tool in the hold that you just drilled. Why don't you just buy a adjustable oil filter wrench that uses 3 finger to grab the filter.
@Bogibar11 жыл бұрын
Currently, you can buy the tool direct from Bogert Aviation or from one of their aviation parts outlets like Aircraft Spruce and Skygeek. The phone number for Bogert Aviation is (509) 736-1513. I think I would ask for the "Talon". It is stronger than the original tool.

I told the people at Uncle Norm's that I would post on their video if I liked it or hated it. I kinda thought it was a dumb idea to put fins on a troll plate and was ready to blast them when I found it to be a bunch of junk but the damn thing works really good. I had used their other fins on my big boat but this worked good on my little I/O Sea Ray.

@xxhc2000xx11 жыл бұрын
I bent pliers putting them in the wholes. Before that, i ripped the Fran oil filter with a screw driver that i was using to attempt to turn the filter which only ripped the filter to shreds. You have to use a socket wrench with a tool that fits in those holes.
@Bogibar11 жыл бұрын
It might work if the filter can wasn't already crushed which is where we normally are before we would use a tool like this. Just tear the can open any way you can and get the cartridge out. It would be easy with this tool after that.

Customer Dan Dutton Last week I orderd Uncle Norms Dolphin from their website. The item arrived the next day and I installed it that night in about 10 minutes. Today I was able to get out and test it in a 15mph wind and I was very impressed with the added control and less work the autopilot has to do to keep the boat on course. Prior to installing the Dolphin I could not turn my boat around into the wind without adding a great deal of power. Works great!
@Bogibar12 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. I run Uncle Norm's fins on two of my boats and it makes a huge difference in the steering and stability even though I don't have an autopilot. I made some videos about my experience with the Orca and Troll Plate fins on my you-tube channel. Just search Uncle Norm's Marine Products or BOGIBAR.

I have been using the Uncle Norm's fins on a troll plate equipped boat and I was very happy to find out that the fins really helped when the wind was blowing. I could hold course even at idle rpm. There have been many times that I am the only boat out on the lake because everyone else was blown out. Uncle Norm's Fins really work.
@colaking112 жыл бұрын
Or you could have just turned your hole saw counter clock wise. Or pound a spade bit into it and turn it with a pliers. No need to buy a separate tool. Just sayin...
@1951H2OK912 жыл бұрын
I know Dan and some of the other guides that are using the Uncle Norm's fins on the kicker and inboard jet. I thought it was a dumb idea but what the hell and gave it a try. Now I'm a believer! This system is very effective. I'm able to hold course, back troll in the wind and without having to use more power than I want for my trolling speed. If you use this once, you'll never go back.
@1951H2OK912 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. If you use enough power to keep the boat tracking, you are maybe way over speed for effective trolling. I use the Uncle Norms fins on two of my boats. They have the Shark Fin for the inboard jet that helps a lot.
@Bogibar12 жыл бұрын
People ask me why I have the Uncle Norms Fins on my boats. As I see it, you can control your boat as long as you have enough power. The problem is when using enough power makes you go faster than you want. The Uncle Norms fins let me maintain control without having to use more power than I want. It's a very effective fix for back trolling and trying to track in wind.
@WishIwasFishin112 жыл бұрын
I have to admit it works well especially on a windy day at buoy 10.
