Of course it’s “different”.. it’s called doing an arrangement. Which in this case is a must given there is no charts. This recording was transcribed by ear and all the individual charts written and arranged entirely by Will (guitarist bottom left of screen).

@anthonypooley5332 thanks... that song was a bit of a nemesis. Wasn't totally happy with it, but it's close enough. Such a challening show. I would really love to have another go at it.

Nice rundown. I've played Shrek 3 times (currently about to do a 4th) and my rig is broadly similar to yours. One big difference: I don't run my acoustic instruments through the Helix. I have various preamps and EQs as needed for whichever ones I'm using, run them all into a GigRig QMX-4 switcher, out to a volume pedal, a Blue Sky reverb and then into an AER Compact 60 acoustic amp, which has an XLR out. The AER acts as both DI and monitor (if needed).

Hi Dave, I appreciate your posts. Thanks for affirming what I figured out for the acoustic parts. I especially appreciate your electric posts and your effect suggestions. I played this show 10 years ago, but since I’ve had more prep time this time around, my goal is to nail everything. Wondering if I could ask about your DI set-up. I’ve always used my back line amp in the pit, with 2 mics, but now our sound guy wants everything totally direct, and I’m a tad nervous. Any help would be appreciated.
@DaveBanen9 ай бұрын
Hi Cory I would love the chance to do this show again. Acoustic DI is simple. Electric, I use either Kemper or Helix. If you don’t have access to something like that you can still use traditional pedal board but get an amp/cab simulator pedal. There’s tons of different ones available. At the simplest end something like Sansamp, but Fender have just released some new products too. There’s lots of options for this now
@DaveBanen9 ай бұрын
Oh and the new Kemper Player that was just released is for exactly that purpose too
@coryclay68649 ай бұрын
Thanks Dave, for getting back to me so soon. Yeah, my Acoustic Taylor 912 will go into a small pedal board with a TC Tuner, a TC Reverb and possibly a Digitech Mosaic since I don't have (or want) a 12-string. I have a Countyman DI. Would that be good to give the FOH guy? Going direct from my (electric guit) pedalboard is whats making me nervous. I'm worried about volumes , balance, etc. I know it will be so much better with no backline amp, and the FOH guy is very good, but it's still hard for me to hand over the keys to my guitar--if you know what I mean.. When at our next rehearsal I'll take a pic of my current pedal board, with maybe another question or two. We use in-ears but only have one monitor mix, and I cue so much from the vocals, that I've got to be able to hear them. Love your AVIOM personal mixer tutorial, and wish I had that as an option. Thanks again for your wisdom and help.
@DaveBanen9 ай бұрын
@@coryclay6864 you absolutely need INDIVIDUAL monitor aux sends, one for each musician so you can each have your own aux mix. The sound guy HAS to be able to provide that. You cannot all be sharing the SAME send that will never work. If they want you running direct, this is a basic requirement - and in todays age of digital consoles, is not that hard to provide especially with this show given the band is so small
@coryclay68649 ай бұрын
@@DaveBanen Currently we’re each given a Beringer Powerplay PM1 1 channel. The sound guy does give each of us a personal mix, but I want the freedom to change volumes, etc. as I need them to ..on the fly. That’s where the AVIOM is real appealing to me. Sound Design isn’t really in my wheelhouse, so I’m not always sure what to ask for and if it’s do-able. I just wanna be able to hear myself clearly, hear vocals clearly, some kbds, some bass, & maybe kick drum. Any thoughts on this front?

Hi Dave. 2 things. First I note you use the Boss Chorus Ensemble CE -5 on your pedal board. I take it you are happy with it? Thinking of acquiring one for use in the pit for musicals. (I have Chorus in other pedals but thinking of getting an individual one). Secondly,I don’t suppose you have any We Will Rock You pitcam videos in your catalogue do you. Doing it in May.
@DaveBanen11 ай бұрын
Yes the ce5 is nice. I rarely use a real pedalboard but when I do, chorus is most definitely always on there. I use Kemper for most shows. Sorry I don’t have WWRY as I’ve never done it
