Hi Ian, great video. In this sort of weather do you use a tracking app like Komoot to know where you are in a whiteout & record photo locations? I rely on it to keep me safely on the paths and store photo opportunities on a recce. Maybe that would be a good video... Just you & a phone & Komoot doing a recce :-)

I use the XH2S as my main (and xt4, GFX50sii). I love the images but it does freeze up sometimes where I have to pull the battery out and restart :/

Ian, I have an accolade for you. You're officially the first KZbinr for whom I've "hit that bell". I've been watching KZbin photography for about two years, and you're my #1 these days. I admire how generous you are with sharing your works, and I appreciate that you're always talking about what you're doing technically and creatively, and why. So, I'll be looking forward to hearing that bell ringing.

Yes, i enjoyed the video and those shots. What a great scenery with the Lake and the Mountains around. Even if there is not that one shot in the end, the photos shown were all worth the hike. Thanks for taking us with you.

OMG! Tucked up indoors and still felt ruddy cold watching you stomping through the snow and ice. You deserve a medal for that. The last pano of the lake was especially lovely. Cheers.

I use the 1.4x and 2x teleconverters with the 70-300mm on my X-T4. They work beautifully, no degradation of the image at all because that lens is so sharp. If you put the 2x on a 100-400mm then you're looking at 1200mm of total reach. Who needs that haha!

Just stunning scenery and beautiful images. Well worth the hike and you're right it isn't just about the final image - it is about the story behind the capturing of it that counts.

Look at Gordon Laing tests. With the 56mm 1.2 he got better sharpness with 40Mpixs, better than with 16-55. This zoom seems overrated. And again a little bit more with multiple images pixel shift ! Then you see a massive difference. This is because your lens can't really resolve 40Mpixs but the 56mm 1.2 can. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4LPoqGhZ7N7Y5o

Glad I found this video Ian, as I was about to upgrade my XT3 for an XH2. Maybe I'll stick with what I've got. Surprised by results to say the least. Although IBIS, better screen/viewfinder and bigger battery would be welcomed?

Love your work. Can you tell us something about the White Balance you use on the Fuji under these conditions? I struggle often with the Whites of the snow and the shadows. Greetings from Germany

Another nice video Ian. Colour minimalism, something I've recently started to look for in my own work, simplifies an image and creates a wonderful photo, I recently was in the Peak District with tremendous conditions, where I was looking to create simple images but give a story or a feeling of mystery to them, was very pleased with the results, keep em coming Ian love your work.

Two best pieces of photography gear I invested in which have stood me in good stead. Be in good physical shape to be able to walk 5 or 6 klm. A good set of walking shoes to be able to hike into those interesting places.

There isn’t a new version of the 16-55 f2.8. It’s a 16-50 variable, which is a replacement for the kit 18-55.

I take my hat off to you Ian for persevering the weather and waiting an hour and a half for the clag to clear and then walking back to the lake and then back to the top again to get the lake shot when the clag had gone. Well done mate. The pano image's were brilliant. Catch you on the next one.

Now I'm living in the tropics I won't be getting days like that. But it's great fun to see what you managed to do despite the conditions. Hiking is a bit more difficult in the mountains near here. A lot of the land is private, but these volcanic rock mountains are just so amazingly steep! It tends to be a matter of cheating by finding a road crossing a ridge, parking up and then seeing how far you can venture.

Another amazing adventure, Ian, but I do worry about you not wearing some form of snow goggles for your eyes! You only have one pair of eyes. I‘m a former skier and never went without this most essential item. Glad to note you had a change of clothes with you and are basically prepared. Having just played mother😂, I do enjoy your (and Henry‘s) videos and look forward to viewing them and your images each week.

Some very good points Ian. Yeah, sometimes my favourite shots end up being the ones which have required more effort to capture, probably because that adventure sticks in my mind more. However like you say, that extra effort also has to come with sensibility in not putting ourselves in possible danger just to get 'the shot'.

Another enjoyable video with great photos, as always. And as I type this comment I'm watching the Views and Likes numbers scrolling upwards. That's always fun. I have an idea for some new merch, Ian. How about t-shirts that say "Absolutely stunning!" with some sort of graphic like an outline of mountain peaks and a camera. I think they would sell. 😉 Cheers!

Thanks for another great video. Whilst I love to see the marvellous places that you get to photograph, it does make me feel a little sad that given age and health constraints, I and I am sure many more of your avid followers, would simply not be able to even begin to emulate them. The thought of walking six miles up those hills and in those conditions would be simply out of the question. Not only that, but the fact that some of us are not lucky enough to have such stunning landscape opportunities within easy reach, somewhat limits our expectations. So, could I respectfully suggest that at some point in the future you give some consideration to producing a video that is aimed at addressing these issues, as I am certain that us older and less agile subscribers would learn so much from your extensive knowledge and enthusiasm.
