I wonder what about the drones because they won't pass the queen excluder. How will you find the queen in a whole bunch of drones then?

How do you sterilize your lids beforehand? Should i sterilize in water bath, air dry and cool then place on my sterilized jar so it's ready for honey? I would like to have jars and lids ready the night before so i know everything is dry

How successful is this technique I have the same position the cells have hatched nearly about 2 or 3 days, how long until I see eggs?? Or new queen
@thehoneycompanyАй бұрын
Queens that emerge within the colony (from queen cells) are the most likely to be accepted by worker bees. But there is always risk when re-queening. After emerging, she will mature for about a week in the hive, then go on a mating flight, and then spend about another week getting ready to start laying eggs. (So 2 weeks until she starts laying). She needs warm, dry flying weather to go on the mating flight. If it’s rainy or cold, she will wait until it’s good weather again. The first of her offspring will emerge as adults about 21 days after that.

What does it mean if they're all going in the same direction? One time i was walking the bank of my local river once, it was pretty windy that day, and out of nowhere i was surrounded by thousands of bees all around me going the same direction. They were completely unbothered by me like they were just passing through.

Why are they not swarming up and stinging?
@thehoneycompanyАй бұрын
Some of them might do that, but most of them will land in the box and keep going with what they were doing. Their tough exoskeleton protects them from a small fall like this. No harm done.

1. From episode 1: if my foundation does not have the cut out corners at the bottom, can I use just kitchen scissors to cut them? 2. From episode 1: What's the benefit of alternating foundation with foundationless frames? Why not use all foundation frames? 3. From episode 1: it looks like most folks are using the plastic foundation. Why the move away from the pure beeswax foundation? 4. From episode 1: when using the plastic foundation, for Utah, does it matter if I have black plastic or natural plastic foundation?

For me it would be much less expensive buying from a beekeeping equipment shop. It would cost me thousands of dollars to produce the hive in equip alone. Plus I'd be less an arm or hand (or two). Great skill and demonstration but unrealistic for me. If you were ever to meet my children and ask them, "can your dad measure?" they would fall about dying with laughter and a big "NO!". BUT IF YOU WANT TO POST 10 HIVES TO THE UK THEN I WILL BE GLAD OF THEM. It remains a good video. Well done. Tone in the UK....envious

Do you have experience with a wooden mold for a thin, flat ornament?
@thehoneycompanyАй бұрын
We have used carved flat wooden molds before for ornaments. They work, as long as you coat the inside of the mold with mold release. (We have also tried olive oil, which didn’t work for us.) Where possible, I prefer polyurethane or silicone flat molds to wood. Being able to bend the mold helps a TON when removing the wax.

What do I do to make more room in the brood box for the queen?
@agmiller52325 ай бұрын
I find that the tin tapers release easier if you first push down on the candle to free it from the sides, then pull it up by its wick tail to remove it.
