Regarding the YEC/OE debate - I emailed the company and here is the response I received. "Dr. Wile is a young earth creationist. However, though he writes from a Christian worldview and is a YEC we're trying to build Bereans who don't believe something we write in a textbook but, like the Bereans in the Bible, seek for the truth of what we say. Therefore, because we are teaching science we give a scientific fact and then explain how that fact is viewed in a young earth, old earth, uniformitarianism, catastrophism, and evolutionary perspective and discuss how the support or don't support each of those perspectives including those facts that can't be explained in the young earth model. Therefore many people presume Dr. Wile "leans" old earth because of this. None of this is explicit in the elementary series though our Science in the Beginning is implicitly young earth science it is the science behind the six days of creation. It is very explicit in earth science and biology where it directly impacts those topics. There are two explicit mentions of the age of the earth in the elementary series when talking about Hutton and Darwin but there Dr. Wile points out where he thinks their reasons for the view of an old earth are incorrect."

Did you say it DOES teach old earth?
@HomeschoolOntheRange2 жыл бұрын
t doesn't teach OE, but really straddles the line....I wrote this to someone else. "I think it's more that he's a respectful YE believer, open to thoughtful discussion from both camps. While he, himself, is in the YE camp, there is discussion of both. Our family falls into the OE camp, and I found this series to be an acceptable series for teaching our children. Not sure if that answers your question or not.... So, he IS YE, but not the the degree that some of the other Christian science curricula are."

How do they turn work in through classrooms? Or do they do it all on paper?
@sparkshomeschoolacademy2 жыл бұрын
I have one who does it on paper. One does it in a long-running word document. And one does everything orally. :) So....the answer is 'whatever works for your family!'
@mombomb8332 жыл бұрын
@@sparkshomeschoolacademy I found how they can do the classwork/worksheets on Google docs and turn them in! They open the link in Google docs, it has to be for them to edit it, they do the work, go to file, add to their Google file, then in the assignment go to the add tab in the top right corner, attach the file and click turn in. Then you can grade it and return it. 🤯 It's not perfect, we have been working on it all morning and making adjustments as needed, you'll see what I mean if you start doing it this way. It's AMAZING! I am so disorganized in my home, because there's too much going on with to little space at the moment, but this makes me feel confident we won't lose things. It will all be right there in the computer. 🎉👏👏👏👏👏

We teach/use both Spanish and Mandarin in our homeschool as well. I never understood the "command" form when I took Spanish classes...but this phrase book sounds so similar to the way we've been using Spanish with our toddler! I just copy the commands that my husband tells him. This subscription box style is very intriguing. I think language learning is so important in life and in homeschool, so it's nice to see what resources are available. "Eres Mi Mama?" is one of our son's favorite books since he was a baby. Super interesting resource, thank you so much for sharing!

How do you grade the units? In other words, I cannot figure out how to grade each page to get 250 points. How do you do it? Thanks!
@HomeschoolOntheRange4 жыл бұрын
For high school language arts? There is a grading rubric in the front of each of the units that walks you through each piece of the grade. For history, I'm a bit looser, depending on effort, attitude, and how much they've learned. As the parent, you can tell how they're doing...don't underestimate that ability! :)

Thank you for this walk through. It helped me realize that this would not be a good fit for my daughter. She can not stand History. I was trying to find a curriculum that presented it in a better way than a textbook. I thought TGTB would help. I'm just worried that she would not be interested in the long "boring" readings for the higher grades. Maybe something like Mysteries of History? She needs just bite size chunks for History so we can dive deeper into math and science.
