Great job man, obviously youre very talented and always great to hear tributes to pioneers that were ignored during there time. Just a small tip try recording the drums to a metronome, a lot of the beats are either slow or fast on the snare hits on 2 and 4. Metronomes save all my songs from falling to shambles whenever I multi track all my own instruments. Again great job just needs a small tweak wuth the drums.

@@Miles_ethan Thank you so much, Miles! I know why I was getting off. I was actually playing along to the original track, and I was struggling to follow Emitt’s somewhat erratic tempo changes. Perhaps I shouldn’t follow the original and play to a metronome like I always do for my original material. However, For my first album “Pleistocene Dreams,” I tracked parts of it on 16 track tape, and I didn’t have an actual exterior metronome to use (I do now, phew!) It’s a blessing the tempo didn’t drift terribly.

You could use a a vintage magnetic pickup to get the same tinny tone. I’m pretty sure Ray Davies did that. I think a microphone has a similar effect plugged straight in to the amp. It’s going to have feedback and squealing no matter if you use a microphone or a magnetic pickup, although that’s kind of the point. Gives it a brain-scrambling feel.

For this recorder, I would recommend getting a thirty-two channel analog console, such as a Mackie 32-8. Then, for the digital transfer, I would recommend purchasing an audio interface, such as a Presonus 1824C, and add on the remaining eight channels via an ADAT preamp, such as a Focusrite Scarlett OctoPre, and track 96 kHz (preferably 192 kHz if you have the storage space) to your DAW. It’s best to use high sampling rates when transferring tapes to preserve the original fidelity as much as possible. Best regards, Ryan

Hi Kelly! For this video, it was REAPER completely. It is an all digital recording. Hi Mr. Johnson, Thank you for your altruistic comment! By “messing up,” are you referring to a flub in your performance or a sour edit/splice? If you flub, just keep on going. Keep the tape spinning. Most professional studios in the 1960s I don’t think rewinded the reel for each take. That would be time consuming and quite insipid. Splicing is always a very discomforting matter. You have to know what you’re dealing with quite well and get it right. Anyway. Best regards, -Ryan
