I like it too. I don’t like a snare with too much ring going on. I like to hear the crack and slight “thud” (low-tuned) sound on a snare drum.

@@RyanDowningMusic it's the perfect sound in my world! Been checking your channel out and am very impressed! I run an analog studio too. Teac 85-16 as main multitrack ❤ it never let us down

@@Lmoes The 85-16s are great! They’re very similar to the MS-16. I own an MS-16, as you most likely already know. What speed does your 85-16 run at? My MS-16 is a 30 IPS recorder. It sounds very smooth with a small amount of tape hiss.

@@RyanDowningMusic yes, it's awesome. Very rugged, fully modular and easy to maintain! I think all the 85-16's are 15 ips (and mine is, naturally) while the MS-16 released 2 versions. I was looking at some MS-16's online but got the 85-16 because it was a good deal close to me. Good signal to noise ratio, great frequency response even with DBX on ( I measured it). Had a fostex g16 before, which was a piece of shit, breaking down constantly. Embarrassing when people pay for studio time... Your MS-16 sounds really good. It helps that the music is good too. And so cool it belonged to Wilco! Is it holding up well? I've never seen one irl, but they look well-built on pics.

@@Lmoes It’s holding up very well! I need to have it calibrated soon. I wish I could find a different stand for it. The one it came with is a bit wobbly and the machine is definitely too heavy for the stand. I might rack mount it.

Bro I love this song. This entire album is really great lots of gems, it’s quite sad to see that they aren’t as popular. Good job keeping them alive!

Great job man, obviously youre very talented and always great to hear tributes to pioneers that were ignored during there time. Just a small tip try recording the drums to a metronome, a lot of the beats are either slow or fast on the snare hits on 2 and 4. Metronomes save all my songs from falling to shambles whenever I multi track all my own instruments. Again great job just needs a small tweak wuth the drums.

@@Miles_ethan Thank you so much, Miles! I know why I was getting off. I was actually playing along to the original track, and I was struggling to follow Emitt’s somewhat erratic tempo changes. Perhaps I shouldn’t follow the original and play to a metronome like I always do for my original material. However, For my first album “Pleistocene Dreams,” I tracked parts of it on 16 track tape, and I didn’t have an actual exterior metronome to use (I do now, phew!) It’s a blessing the tempo didn’t drift terribly.

Nice, drums are a bit off beat but I’d take that over quantizing everything to the grid any day 🤘🏻 solid tones from the warm audio mic, that thing looks massive

The WA-47JR is actually not that large. It's pretty standard. This song is admittedly confusing as a whole to keep up with. There's actually a few time signatures changes. I hear a measure of 2/4 a good bit in the choruses. Peace out, Ryan

I’ll try and do “Speed of Sound” by Chris Bell or “With My Face on the Floor” by Emitt Rhodes next.
