she is such a beauty! It's one thing to get a puppy that grows up with you and follows you and sadly one outgrows the dog. Having a Macaw from a baby on the other hand, and now you have a life time long partner that will always love you and have that special bond with you, knowing you 100% and how the love is returned! There the only sad thing is for the bird, that will one day have to see us pass while they still have many years left which in many cases makes old parrots depressed much like humans. But what a company and what a bestfriend for life a maccaw can be for a human, same goes for the little african gray! I love macaws and african greys <3

My Hahn's macaw clicks his beak when he is annoyed or impatient. It's similar in cadence to a human clucking their tongue. It's definitely not a happy or courtship gesture. Beak clicks from a Hahn's mean you better guard your fingers and cut out whatever you are doing. 😂

I have the Parrot Wizard training perch. Now i need the nail file, and start working on trust❤❤❤❤
@ParrotWizard2 күн бұрын
That's the way to go. Like I said, there's no rush to trim the nails when you do it at home. 1 nail a day or even half of 1 is totally fine. Sooner or later you'll get through them all. Also be sure to grab a grooming perch to put in the cage to make the nail trims last longer.
@karenkeyser42802 күн бұрын
I love that nail file. I trimmed my Senegal's nails with a little clipper and he is not trusting me as much because I rushed😢

hi ParrotWizard ! I've been watching your videos for a while now and I use so much of your advice to train my little guy. he is such a good learner and loves training. recently, he's been going through his first breeding season. he's about 8 months old now and seems to have chosen my mom as a mate. he bites every other female in the house, including me. of course, I know it's not his fault so I give him space but he seems to really hate being separated from us. how do we discourage this aggressive behaviour? he's a kakariki btw ! I do believe he has some trauma from being left alone but he also gets overstimulated by human interaction. p.s: all advice welcome 🙏
@ParrotWizard3 күн бұрын
Well, you can either let him be and just accept who he likes and doesn't like. Or, you can make his interactions with other people superlative and worth him going against his natural desires. That's where extensive training comes in and helps a bird be friends with everyone rather than overbonded to a single person or nobody.
@mira_ge063 күн бұрын
@ParrotWizard I thought that too ! I wanted my mom to bond with him and show him that she'll love him even when he's calm but she's a bit afraid of him at the moment. how do I substitute his aggression with positive behaviour like training when he gets into a mood? for example, if he bites me, can I ask him to step up instead? does this come with extensive training and trust? also, thank you so so much for the advice ! I absolutely adore your birds and really appreciate everything you do for birds and their families.
@ParrotWizard3 күн бұрын
Kind of but not really. Usually by the time they are aggressive or biting, they are reverting to instinct and beyond calm rational training. Instead, you should apply calm rational training when they are in their best mood to extend the practice they get with people. Gradually that duration increases and replaces the earlier relationships formed by instinct or chance. Check out The Parrot Wizard's Guide to Well-Behaved Parrots for in depth explanation of training and setting the bird up for success: ParrotWizard.com/Book

Palm Cockatoo is just so different and unrelated that I wouldn't draw too much connection between them and other parrots. They get this way outside where they want to sun bathe with their wings out. I don't know other parrots that do that.
