Did you use to say it was OK to swap the wheels?
@toycarcollector
@toycarcollector 7 күн бұрын
You can swap originals around. Try to keep them looking appropriate condition for the car.
@chasbari
@chasbari 7 күн бұрын
You have to be careful when swapping out bearing wheels from 68 or 69. As a kid, I know I would routinely swap them so that my Chargers would have large wheels on the rears. They originally came with mediums all around. That ice blue Custom Mustang should have small fronts and mediums on the back. Dave rightly notes that the large rears on them are not correct. He would swap them out to make them correct to original config. Thing is, if you don't know how to do this, it's very easy to pop the bushing/delryn bearing off of the axle by fracturing the end nib off of the axle. You then have to extract the bushing from the wheel that was removed if you want to re-use it elsewhere, and you have to do some doctoring to get a bushing permanently mounted back on the axle. But, it will never be the same and will easily pop back off if someone tries to wheel swap down the road. That's why the extreme collectors will cut the old wheels off instead of trying to pop them off. That also has risks.

Zamak metal reacts to the air. If the car has toning the metal probably wasn't cleaned properly before it was painted.

8 plus years old kid usually take care of the cars. 3 plus love and beat the cars up. Buying 2 of the same car is a good way for a parent to do for a 3 plus kid . So when they get older they will have mint cars when they started getting them.

Depends on the condition of the card and bubble. Nice ones set you back about $200 for Red Enamel, more for Red Spectraflame.

Well sadly this was 10 years ago. Back then blister packs sometimes could be opened without loosing any value. When I had these for sale collectors would not buy them because they were not perfect. But the cars were perfect so I opened them and I have all those cars in my collection still to this day. My wife says I have to start sharing some of my beauties so if your interested in Redlines be sure to see my website www.toycarcollector.com Thanks!

Electrifying would create even more pollution. It’d just create an entirely new issue regarding battery waste. No energy is “clean”, hence why it’s called energy. It takes some type of energy to produce energy.

Zamac parts looked perfectly shiny after casting. They were then flash plated before assembly and painting. Plating won't tone, raw zamac will. If a part in the plating tank didn't make contact with all the other parts to complete the circuit, it didn't receive any plating. Large flat pieces, like hoods and hatches, might not receive any plating. You wouldn't be able to tell, as they went through the assembly process. Once the pieces were mated, hoods or hatches to body, they were then painted in a electrostatic paint process as a complete assembly. Bodies were one assembly and bases were separate.The body parts were not painted separately. They would pass the eye test quite easily as to perfect color match. It's only after the unplated surface was subject to oxidation over time that the non plated part would begin to tone. Contact spots in the plating tank would be responsible for small spot toning. Any acidic contact with the paint would also cause toning. Think sweaty little ketchup coated hands clasping a favorite car on the sides.. One reason you don't want to polish things like bases is that, once you remove what little flash plating is left, you essentialy have bare, unprotected zamac. It will look shiny temporarily due to the polishing, just like a freshly cast piece as cited above. But, once oxidation sets in, it will darken over time. Better to leave them uncompromised. Also, those offset body to base examples happen because of rivet post distortion when excessive pressure was placed on them when posts were being spun. This caused them to slightly offset. Some posts were not sturdy enough to prevent this. Posts were changed in subsequent die updates on some models to correct these issues. You see early run HK post spins that were barely sufficient to hold body to base in things like Custom Mustangs. Once they added sufficient mass, the spins held the cars together better.
