Hi buddy, I never had any problem with the gear on the Shadows. Very sturdy skates. Just not the right skates for me, too big for my feet and legs. I now ride Iqon AG10s, and they're the right skates for me.

Hi Liamh, no I have not. I think Sacha can be seen as a Shadows fan and he may experiment a few things here and there, whereas I still prefer a more classic skate, and the less I modify my skates, the better for me. I recently got the IQON AG10 and they are the best skates I've ever ridden. Shadows are nice, but nowhere near as responsive. I think Shadows in general are best suited for people with big bulky feet and big calves. I have rather slender feet and little calves, and while I've got no problem to "fill in" the Shadows as far as my legs are concerned, my feet had too much vertical room in the toe box, so I had to place an insole to narrow that gap, which makes my ride height significantly higher and overall not as enjoyable as on the AG10 for which I didn't have any adjustment of that kind to make.

@@jeremyfitnfun thats some good points im looking at them from the perspective of being someone whos foot is tight width wise in a 10-11 sl i think a intuition in shadow could solve that issue

Trigger's are tighter fitting than SL's.

I can say over time the walkable liner breaks in and now I feel very comfy in them. You have to give it a good 2 months. Up to you if you want to wait.

They break in quite quickly and will contour your shin nicely.

Hi Liam, for me, in that case, Razors SL. It's just the better all-rounder in my opinion.

Locoskates

It's nice to see how much the skates have evolved since the mid nineties. Even though there has not been any improvement for years now.

Yes it really is to be honest. I have only used it outdoors on the usual shitty UK surfaces so very abrasive and rough. And for a 88a wheel, it has lasted a very decent amount of time (about 4 months). Very comfortable wheel, I could actually tell the difference in "rebound". It doesn't mean you'll be jumping around like a kangaroo, but it does absorb impacts vs another standard wheel. But when it's worn, it collapses a little too quickly. Like an all or nothing kind of thing. For that reason, I prefer Under Cover wheels, or Dead. But the longer lasting wheel I've ever had, and still have in my reserve stock, is Famus wheel (non aluminium core) even though not as comfy to ride.

Nice! I think I have these too. Very wide with the orange font. I think they are the stock Eugen Enin Shadow wheels. The newest ones. I got them as "generic" wheels on a recent order from Roller Warehouse. I think they'd probably pair nicely with the Fluid 5s. I guess that is why they come with the Shadows!

@@Martz604 Roller Warehouse seems to be such a good skate shop. You can buy skates boot only, and not just full skate only like in some other skate shops (Locoskates for instance...). Man, I wish I live in the US (I suppose that's where you live). Gear is way cheaper there as well. Razors SL boot for less than $150. Bargain! Unfortunately I can't shop there because I'd get assassinated twice: once on the shipping cost, and another time on the import tax :(

It would be great if I had one closer to me so I can actually try skates on. Sizing and fit is always such a gamble so I obsessively scour the internet for as much info as possible on skates.

Thanks man. I always learn new tricks both sides, otherwise I consider I don't have the trick yet. It's a bit strange at first, but then you get the hang of it. And thanks to that, I can play ping pong both either left or right hand, just as good haha! I don't really have a "switch" side now, which I like. I usually practice a new trick on just one side until I get it, and then I do the same on the other side. Try it :)

Thanks man 😀. I kept the shock absorbers in. I know some people remove them because they prefer a flatter stance, but for my morphology I actually prefer to have my heel raised a little, via a decently thick shock absorber.

Awesome news! Let me know how you get on with them. Regarding the antirocker frames, my preference will always be Create Originals over the Fluid IV. I prefer the way the antis sit higher up on the frame (for the Creates OG). Also it's slightly shorter in length than the Fluid IV (if we compare them in size Large), so a bit more maneuverable. The main advantage is for switch-ups in my opinion.

I'd say good for normal width feet. If you really have ultra wide feet, the Razors Genesys are a safer bet.

@@Xxx999-y8h yes the SL's are wider. It's a comfortable fit, without any extra unnecessary space. The bigger the size for SL's, the wider the shell. They just add a few mm when they increment the shell size. You can see precisely all measurements on razorskate website.

@@jeremyfitnfun I appreciate the info , I’m getting back into skating & purchased the ROCES m12s . I’m a sz 12US the 14 fit but tight on sides , replaced them with a size 15 & was still tight on the sides that caused numbness in 5 minutes. I don’t have a local skate shop to try some on . So will the razors fit true to size? Or should I get a size bigger.. say 13?

@@Xxx999-y8h if you're a size US12, you're classified as someone with big feet. And I know a blader who has the same foot size as you here in the UK, and he got M12 and said the same thing as you: way too tight in the sides. M12 is typically a narrow boot, with a narrow soleplate. It's more appropriate for teenagers in my opinion (meaning people that are light and with slender feet). I find Razors SL fit exactly true to size, I'm a EU42.5/UK8.5/US9.5. If you wanted to have the widest fit, go for Razors Genesis. Great skate as well, but they are heavier than SL's. You should be fine with the SL though. Just measure the widest point of your foot, on your widest foot, if they're not identical, and see Razors' website for shell width.

It depends where you live, but Locoskates is a decent international skateshop.

Hello! My calf has a 35cm circumference. Don't judge the size you should go for based on a random woman's calf size. A lot of women have bigger calves than men depending on the ethnic background and the level of obesity in your country etc. I hope it helps 🙏

@@jeremyfitnfun it's rare to have a review where the actually liner fit is discussed. One of my favourite part of footwraps were the heel lock. However I did not get to try the Stockwell mid wraps. Think they would have given that good support to the front and side of the ankle crease. Kind of crazy that the eclipse liners are lacking in this regard

Getting to a physical skate shop is not easy for some people nowadays (me included), so I find it useful to provide details and the nitty-gritty. I've only been able to skate them for a third time, again in very wet/greasy conditions, but I'm getting used to them and really enjoyed the yet again short session, and finally found my style and landed decent tricks. That time, I really tightened the laces as much as possible, and that was so much better! I think that's paramount for someone with slim calves like mine.

Now, that's a great idea, thanks for the tip! I've just done my third session in the Shadows today, in wet and greasy conditions, so not ideal, but I'm getting used to the skates and I bladed much better. I didn't get any ankle pain whilst blading, but after taking them off, my ankles are a little tender. Surely it will get better as the liners break in. Also, I was much more in control today. Once you understand the way the Shadows flex, they become more predictable. And I totally see what you mean about the strap. The thing is, it's hard to get spare parts as far as I know, so definitely worth taking care of them as much as possible!

I'm 5'11", but my calves are actually rather little. Even though I trained them for a few years in the gym, they barely grew in size. It's just my morphology I guess... Having said that, bear in mind the ENNUI shin guards elastic band will stretch overtime, but if you couldn't close them even by pulling on the velcro band, you were right to upsize for sure 😉 The only gripe I have with those ENNUI shin guards is that they tore up the top of my liners with the rubbing of the extremity of the guard whilst blading. A bit annoying 🙄 😒

I am never cold in winter with short trousers, wearing knee and shin protectors. It's almost everything closed cause of them and the boots. Try it out, just a tip...

Yes you're totally right. But here, I believe that time got the best of those wheels... they were made c.25 years ago, with what seems to be cheap polyurethane. They're not going back in my frames for sure! Anyway, after just one session, they went from being unused to very worn out... so it shows you the poor quality of those wheels. I'm sure Roces has better quality wheels now, but my parents had bought me the entry level skate, and that was very poor quality. I'm grateful I had skates though (and they were my first pair too) 😉

Hey man, I did not notice a difference regarding smoothness compared to standard ABEC9 steel bearings. However, the main difference is with hybrid ceramics you don't need any maintenance. And I find that a great advantage. I've been using those bearings for more than 2 months almost every day, and they still roll just as fine as day one 😀.

Whatever works for you my friend. And yes I think it's a good idea to build up confidence, but don't get used to it too much, otherwise you will have the wrong reflex of not turning your leg enough for top soul or top acid for instance. Best of luck with your learning ;)

@@jeremyfitnfun Thanks, I will keep that in mind and make sure that the majority of my topsides are topsouls and not X grinds. I am practicing on a grind box with coping, not on a p-rail, so I think that should help me keep my form on topsides.

@@MrTea117 good to hear buddy! And if you really want to train your form, othing is better than angle iron for topsides... but it's definitely harder than on a rail or grind box with coping, because your need to get lower.

Guess what: I already have, so it was WAY worse before haha! Also I believe my ceramic bearings are quite noisy, but I can't complain, never had to clean them and they spin just as well as day 1 :)

@Eightscult is correct. This is a Wheelbarrow. A 9-bar is: trailing foot Royale and leading foot alley-oop Toe Roll. Kind of like a Soyale but the soul foot is toe-rolling the obstacle.
