For the ankle bones you can get the MyFit Ankle Footies. I had the same problem at first, but it kind of formed to my foot with prolonged use. My main concern with these skates are the strap holders at the end, I feel they might break if I miss a grind, so I’ve strapped a belt ring to, well, the straps, so when I miss a grind, the object bounces of the ring.

Now, that's a great idea, thanks for the tip! I've just done my third session in the Shadows today, in wet and greasy conditions, so not ideal, but I'm getting used to the skates and I bladed much better. I didn't get any ankle pain whilst blading, but after taking them off, my ankles are a little tender. Surely it will get better as the liners break in. Also, I was much more in control today. Once you understand the way the Shadows flex, they become more predictable. And I totally see what you mean about the strap. The thing is, it's hard to get spare parts as far as I know, so definitely worth taking care of them as much as possible!

Thank you very much for this review. I was about to drop 300+ euros because I thought this skates could actually help my ankle malleolus's pain from rubbing. It's a surprise that it is the other way around!

I can say over time the walkable liner breaks in and now I feel very comfy in them. You have to give it a good 2 months. Up to you if you want to wait.

@@jeremyfitnfun it's rare to have a review where the actually liner fit is discussed. One of my favourite part of footwraps were the heel lock. However I did not get to try the Stockwell mid wraps. Think they would have given that good support to the front and side of the ankle crease. Kind of crazy that the eclipse liners are lacking in this regard

@@longtermsquatter yes indeed, I try to give more insights and a different angle from a product review. Getting to a physical skate shop is not easy for some people nowadays (me included), so I find it useful to provide details and the nitty-gritty. I've only been able to skate them for a third time, again in very wet/greasy conditions, but I'm getting used to them and really enjoyed the yet again short session, and finally found my style and landed decent tricks. That time, I really tightened the laces as much as possible, and that was so much better! I think that's paramount for someone with slim calves like mine.

if you walk in the walkable liner for 3 months it will feel better you need to tighten the laces tight on the top ,this is the most important part i didnt own this type of liners but i know that being so thick and soft brakes every liner except intuition liners intuition uses firmer material and its comically thin compared to these

Did u ever try these like sascha simms does his with just a normal skate liner like a intuition or reign v3

Hi Liamh, no I have not. I think Sacha can be seen as a Shadows fan and he may experiment a few things here and there, whereas I still prefer a more classic skate, and the less I modify my skates, the better for me. I recently got the IQON AG10 and they are the best skates I've ever ridden. Shadows are nice, but nowhere near as responsive. I think Shadows in general are best suited for people with big bulky feet and big calves. I have rather slender feet and little calves, and while I've got no problem to "fill in" the Shadows as far as my legs are concerned, my feet had too much vertical room in the toe box, so I had to place an insole to narrow that gap, which makes my ride height significantly higher and overall not as enjoyable as on the AG10 for which I didn't have any adjustment of that kind to make.

@@jeremyfitnfun thats some good points im looking at them from the perspective of being someone whos foot is tight width wise in a 10-11 sl i think a intuition in shadow could solve that issue

I si have issues on the right side of the boot. I have previous enin skates which are the black ones. I’ve tried wearing two socks and still have bruising on my right ankle. The left side I don’t have issues with.
