Hey man im strongly considering getting an Alaskan 2075 this spring, how does it handle rough water and how does it ride? If heard tons of mixed opinions on this boat
@bearbonesfishing22 сағат бұрын
I've had it out in some moderate chop on Lake Erie (3-4 footers) and it handled fine. Just got to take your time. Just got to be mindful that it is an aluminum boat, so it's definitely not as smooth as what you'd get with a fiberglass. And it's truly designed as a multi-purpose boat. If you do most of your fishing on big open water, I'd suggest looking at a different model. But if you're wanting something that is really well-rounded, then the Alaskan would be my suggestion. Let me know if you have any other questions.

@bearbonesfishing 4 footers are plenty enough for me, any bigger than that I'll fish the missouri lol thanks so much for the reply.

Mike, there is a place in Sarnia that sells minnows. Weed’s Bug & Baits off College. He has self serve so you can pick up early or late.

I went to him in the spring, and he's got a great service. It's a bit of a pain for me to get there when I'm towing the boat though.

I believe the closest launch on the American side would be on the Black River (Port Huron). Water Street I believe. I'm coming from the Canadian side, so I'm not entirely sure.

Angling Sports in London. They haven't carried minnows much the last few years, but managed to source some nice ones this season

I’m really surprised that for this time of year, you aren’t getting more big pregnant females? I’m trying to recall when the bite picked up in the spring, maybe they weren’t totally in the river system just yet cause of temp?

Last time I tried to say hello... you took off 😂😂 What is the average size of fish you're catching N of the bridge Mike and what's your best to date there.
@bearbonesfishing14 күн бұрын
Oh no!!! I'm sorry about doing that lol! Average size this year was probably 17-18 inches. I didn't catch many monsters that's for sure. Mid-November is my favourite time. The weather is still pretty nice, but the full on Fall bite has arrived. You get best of both worlds.

Was that your rig I saw in Nilestown looking forlorn ? Looks like we both left it a little late- I was hoping for a trip to Bay of Quinte until Snow-Mageddon descended. Great content Mike... especially the tiller stuff 😆😆
@bearbonesfishing21 күн бұрын
Yep... That would have been it 😂. I just hope the snow didn't make my cover collapse while it was waiting to be wrapped. Oh well, live and learn. I'm hoping to get up to Quinte for some ice fishing this year. Do you have any outfitter recommendations?
@odochartaighofodonegal981521 күн бұрын
@bearbonesfishing Have stayed all around Quinte but have settled with Merland Park. It's a couple clicks from downtown Picton but is right on Picton Bay with great access to both shallow and deeper water ( check LakeMaster or Navionics) The Operator Kevin is great and a very seasoned guide down there- he has cabins and 3 motel units with a common kitchen. I run down there solo so the motel units are perfect- with launch, docking, trailer parking and accomodation for 2 days was $300. A motel in Napanee will run $120/night. There is a 1-day walleye tourny put on by Tackle Depot in Jan out of Demoretsville I believe Mike, if your competive juices are still flowing.

Hi! great fishing. I got a bunch of stinger hooks which I have not yet used. Do you just let them hang or do you pin them to the tail? I fish from shore and not on a boat. Thanks
@bearbonesfishing27 күн бұрын
My preference is to let it hang loose. That said, if I'm picking up a lot of weeds and debris on the stinger (usually happens late spring and early fall), I'll hook it into the tail of the plastic.
@rumcoke912327 күн бұрын
@@bearbonesfishing thanks. I tried them once this summer and found that when pinning to tail it really affects the way the paddletail swims, so will try it loose. Ive lost a lot of fish I feel because I did not have the stingers on.
@bearbonesfishing27 күн бұрын
@rumcoke9123 Good call. Definitely let it hang when using a paddle tail. Let me know how it goes next time.

What pound braid/mono do you use?
@bearbonesfishingАй бұрын
15 lbs. braid to 8 lbs fluoro leader.
@Joe_DuchonАй бұрын
@ 15 lbs! You aren’t messing around. I use 8 braid to a 8 mono but was thinking of moving up to 10 lbs.. My line counter reels for trolling and bottom bouncing in the summer are 15 though.
@bearbonesfishingАй бұрын
@Joe_Duchon I use those same rods and reels to jig for lake trout, burbot and whitefish up north during the summer. The 15 lbs. braid comes in handy then.
@davidrogemoser9147Ай бұрын
I'm in the eastern basin in Buffalo NY. My understanding is that we have resident population here that is built up with by the migrating population in the summer. Are there any estimates as to what percentage is migrating, and what percentage is resident? Are some migrating one year and residents in other years?
@bearbonesfishing27 күн бұрын
I read this in a paper recently. It was published in 2022 and is from the Bay of Quinte, Lake Ontario region. So things in Erie might be a bit different, but this may give you an approximation; "...there's a spawning site fidelity was high for both rivers (Trent and Napanee Rivers, 91-97%) and annual residency within the Bay of Quinte was low (9.5%)." So it looks like there's generally a low percentage of walleye that remain resident throughout the year. Here's the article info if you're interested; Journal of Great Lakes Research Volume 48, Issue 1, February 2022, Pages 159-170 Spatial ecology of Bay of Quinte walleye (Sander vitreus): Annual timing, extent, and patterns of migrations in eastern Lake Ontario

Hi Mike, How does the forward facing sonar help you with vertical jigging those Walleyes? Do you use it if forward or bottom look position? Nice vid BTW.
@bearbonesfishingАй бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! I use forward mode on mine most days. Let's me see straight down then around the boat too. I find it most helpful to see how the fish interact with your bait. But I'll be honest, it can be super irritating to see fish around your bait and not have them bite no matter what lure you throw at them 😂.
@jamesyoung4633Ай бұрын
You don't eat walleyes. I like pulling at least 2 rods by myself when things are slow. You're out of the game when get one on. But sometimes it is hectic. Thanks for the video.
