They are trying to get cheaper employees..and laying off expensive employees... This capitalism shit is crazy really... Social protection needs to be number one on any country list...we are not slaves we are human beings... The profits needs to be shared by all ... We should not allow rich people become crazy rich on the expense of employees treated like slaves... If you fired an employee ok. You need to pay his salary for 6 months... Rich people are getting too rich ... We need job security and a world where human are NOT HUMAN RESOURCES

Are you guys sisters,.....? I just discover your channel and I see you put your life journey on the frontline here, I hope you will achieve success in your new Path. It seems very raw, fresh, untapped this means a good sign you're be good in the future. A cookie cut career field won't work for most people now because AI or tech is changing day by day and leave people thinking about creating fresh new untapped things and ways to stay alive.

P.S: Congrats. Chicago would be a great place to work. Years ago I spent 3 months there going to a school for an employer, and lived in a hotel just off Rush street. One of the best times of my life.

Voice of experience: 1: Have a $afety net built up. Assume you could be out of work for up to a year, but plan on getting some type of employment within 6 months. 2: With the two holidays and dwindling budgets at the end of the year, the end of the year (Nov-Dec) seems to be a slow hiring period, whereas the beginning of the year sees more normal hiring activity. The college graduation period (May-June) might be the best time to have a resume out. 3: Assume that you will be moving on to a new position every (approx.) 4 years. I know a non-programmer who has been in the same position for about 10 years. However, she has seen a lot of turnover and has been treated like crap. She does not like the people but likes the work, so she is staying for now. 4: If you are a programmer, get certification. For Salesforce.com job it is almost mandatory that you have the PD1 cert. It was not required during hiring by my current employer, but 9 months after being hired there was a sudden push to ensure all developers had the PD1. I obtained it 6 months after being hired so I was set. For me it is a little more than a piece of paper as I have 10 years of Salesforce/Java experience and an MSCS degree. 5: Really learn your craft and don't be someone who is googling every roadblock you encounter. This will help you stand out in your current position and ensure you are prepared when moving on to your next position. 6: Company names are just words, so don't get warm and fuzzy feelings when you think about working for Gggle, Msoft,FBook.

You did not lose 2.5 years, you gained 2.5 years of experience. For any tech job, always pretend you only have six months left. What good things can you accomplish? What training can you do? How can you keep your skills relevant? Always have a few months of savings. You probably have a new job by now. I have been laid off a few times, not a big deal, it leads to better things, you don't want to be at a job where they don't need you.

Just curious, how many years of experience did you have already? I graduated with a CS degree months ago with no experience, I've kind of just given up. Even for junior positions, you compete with people with 2-3 years experience

@beccawex dang, appreciate the reply. I decided to stop applying to swe/qa/helpdesk jobs for now and am just applying to tech sales jobs now, that side is still not as bad to get entry level interviews (BDR). I'm Canadian and unfortunately things are even worse here for the SWE market than the US

IT industry is a joke! never has history seen such a volatility. I wish companies weren't this greedy and they don't call us a hire. They should employ us, they groom us to keep us, not fire us later on. Some of us simply want a peaceful stable job with slow growth and a decent pay. We don't want to be dispensed like this. I'd do anything to trade this off for a different engineering field.

I was never interested in working the tech industry, but I know people work in it. Unfortunately, these companies don't give a shit about you. Everybody is constantly on edge. They want you to move to be closer to their offices and come into the office 3-5 days a week as a mechanism of control. I see in another video that you got a job, and I'm happy for that. I just hate where the tech is right now.

This is why I never had any interest in working in corporate setting. On top of the hoops they put you through just to be selected, you can be let go for many reasons and many times out of the companies control like laying people off to stay afloat. I feel like these jobs have no job security. You can be back on the street in months..looking. I think its time I create my own work.

I was laid off from my tech job when my company was taken over. I paid pretty much all the cash I had to retrain as an SAP consultant when it paid huge rates. When you are young and laid off you can analyse the market and retrain for whatever you want.

I'm a lefty as well. When I was a kid, I read that the average life span of a lefty was 9 years less than that of a righty. It had nothing to do with genetics or health. It was because many lefties met untimely deaths due to using tools/equipment made for righties. At the time, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
