I'm not sure I understand the choice between rolling a lower grade or a higher grade, if you do too many low ones you get locked out of maxing that module, so you end up needing to buy a new one and start over?

The game give you choice, either to be good guy, or bad guy. That's all about your choices and favorite activities. Trying bad things doesn't make you virtual bad guy, unless you do like such type of acrivities. All those materials could be gathered good and/or interesting ways - fighting fugitives, pirating in protected systems, looking for hi grade wrecks, vacuuming Dave's Hope. Even Hot Jupiter slaughter is not an easy activity, you need to have some strategy.

That 4x bonus is all I needed to hear.

You should have seen how engineering used to work. There was no progress before. Instead it was a slot machine where every stat was spun at once and you had to pray for the 1 in a million result where every reel came up jackpot on the same spin. You could empty your entire storage of materials and still strike out on one single module.

All of my frustrations in one video. That's why I didn't engineer for like 2 years. I was completely and entirely against it. Plus, back then? Your rolls were entirely luck. So you might have had to engineer tthree or more A-rated FSDs, until you got one that had the best role.

I laughed so hard. "This is a highly scientific process" - yea, that was FDev maybe planning but did came up with a stupid RNG-mechanic. At least your RNG got some variation whereas we just do the button mashing until the materials are dried out. Thx so much for the laugh - but we still come back for the torture of RNG-button mashing anyway, let's be real ;D We players just love the torture of the grind...

Great vid, inspired me to go as well! One addition: you can actually export your in-game ship builds to edsy or coriolis from inara. Go to the "commander" tab, look for hangar, choose the ship, on the ship details page scroll down to the bottom and there should be both an export to edsy and an export to coriolis button. Quite handy!

Part four has to cover the inability to recover materials from FSDs, and the mourning of everyone with more than one ship who has to re-engineer all their ships FSDs thanks to the new supercruise boost modules being a separate module and not some kind of experimental unlock. Oh, and I guess you should do experimental unlocks too.

I see alot of "I quit because odyssey didnt have VR" comments. If there was another option for space combat w/ hotas in VR or exploring the vastnes of the final frontier in VR, i could understand. But sadly this is the only option. I take breaks but cant give it up. Nothing compares.

You missed one of the best parts of mining, the seismic charges. Instead of just using the lasers the seismic charges blow apart the asteroid with the most amazing sound and feeling in the game, highly recommend you try this method. Been using the Bigscreen Beyond for over a month (cv1 and index before) and loving Elite even more now. This is the game that got me into vr.

What settings are being used in this?

I'm a console player, myself, and still play often. That said, need reasons to play have become harder. I've even considered starting completely over despite my nearly 2500hrs of play.

To anybody in the comments: Whats the biggest change you would make to this game? Or What did they do all wrong?

I still use the old neutron plotter rather than the newer galaxy plotter. It has the advantage of only needing you to copy the neutron stars and letting ED’s default route plotter do the rest, which means fewer trips to the galaxy map (and less manual copying from my phone). It also doesn’t require me to put in a full ship build in, and instead just enter my jump range. My ship has a few partially engineered modules and a CG exclusive module, so I imagine entering all that would be a pain, especially on mobile.

Just wait till you start any kind of ground stuff and in order to upgrade your suit and weapon, you have to acquire common goods like glue and motors to level up. But you can't go to a shop to buy them, you have to do missions to get some things, then go to the bartender to trade for those common goods, or just go to a base and basically steal everything.
