Hello po, I am an incoming freshman and I really want to become a medical/clinical microbiologist, however the microbiology program in the Philippines mostly prioritize the graduates to work in the food industry, so I decided to take the MedTech program, and I heard that you can take the CSMLS or the ASCP but if I passed the CSMLS (hopefully soon), can I also take the masters degree in Microbiology in Canada?

if you passed the csmls MLT you can work as mlt.. its upto you if you want to pursue masters degree in microbiology. it will be an added asset to your resume then

internship is work experience dn po! and yes you will be eligible to take csmls mlt licensure. PLA will tell you how many courses you will need to take before taking exam or if you are eligible to write exam right away

depends on the province.. some province can hire you based on you experience as MLT you can work as lab assistant but some province are requiring that you have a lab assistant license here to work as lab technician regardless if you have previous mlt experience.. so it all depends on the place you are planning to apply for lab technician/ lab assistant... Med Lab technologist is a different job this really require that you have a CSMLS license

you have get a PRIOR LEARNING ASSESSMENT before you can write the exam.. and yes you gave to be physically here to write the exam..

You have to do the assessment to know but I suggest you contact csmls before applying for PLA to confirm and to know if it is worth going through PLA to know your eligibility.

PCRB is not part of the evaluation.. it was just to help you assess yourself but it has no bearing to the PLA report. However, you have to submit it to CSMLS as part of their requirements in PLA

Thank you so much for the info! I have a few questions, though. I got my MLT education in the US, where we learn all of the major disciplines, except histology. Just recently, I took and passed an online histology course with the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (MEDL-102). Will that be enough to get me through the PLA, or is it likely that I will need more education thereafter? If it is the latter, what may that education entail and where would I get it done? Upon passing the PLA, would you recommend getting a job before or after submitting an Express Entry profile? Thank you!

I am not an assessor but my guess is that you will be eligible to write the exam right away if you were able to practice on all discipline and you finished the histology course from SAIT.. You would still need to go through PLA process to get the report that you can write the the exam or if they will require more courses you can do both... find a job and apply for express entry whichever opportunity comes first just grab it.. 😊 by the way after your PLA, you will be eligible to to write the exam for Med lab assistant because you have the degreen in Med lab Science.. if you can be MLA certified you can work as MLA while waiting to become MLT

Ate bagong graduate po akong medtech mag boboard exam palang po, ask ko lang po kung pupwede ko na kunin ang PLA. Student visa po kasi ako at mag aaral muna ng psw for 1 year at trabaho ng another 1 year sa canada as a psw for the Residency. Worry ko po kung asikasuhin ko PLA ko right now baka maexpire lang, thank you po gusto ko lang po malinawan dahil di ko po alam ang gagawin ko :((((

once na start m na PLA mo at makuha m ung PLA technical report bibigyan ka ng 2 years para matapos mo ung learning plan including taking course if required tpos ung csmls licensure exam n. if d m mameet un masasayng lahat ng nagastos m sa PLA at time .. may instances na naeextend nila ung validity n 2 years depends kng mapapakiusapan m ung csmls at valid reason ng extension.. i suggest if sure ka n itutuloy m n MLT career saka ka magstart ng PLA. as early as now pwde m lang cgro magawa is ready m ung mga education requirements like transcript syllabus at mode of teaching as english pati n din wes kc 5 years naman valid ang wes.. pag ready ka na mag csmls saka m finalize n pa courier credentials m sa csmls

I have started to prepare for CSMLS exam. I have already started PLA assessment. I applied for General Medical laboratory technologist category. So to my knowledge the competencies for these are safe work practices, Data and specimen collection and Handling, Analytical processes, Interpretation and reporting of results, quality management, Critical Thinking, Communication and interaction, professional practice. Correct me if I am wrong.. so my question is for the above competencies should I review the books that you mentioned?? Or are these books for another category exam like diagnostic cytology?? im actually not much familiar with clinical genetics. i assumed it is a different discipline requirements or courses but you can check the csmls website for resources as they have recommendations there as well
