I also really enjoy using the 40-150 mm because it can be expanded to 600 mm fullframe equivalent with the TC-20 teleconverter. You have 80-300 mm at f5.6 throughout, which still allows very good shots in normal lighting conditions.

You mentioned sport again. Thank you so much.

400mm at that size is wild! Just shows how M43 dominates for telephoto! I brought the Sigma 150-600 with me to the F1 last year and it was SO heavy! Maybe an G9II would be a good addition for me after all...

I've had this lens since around the time it launch and together with the Oly 40-150mm f/2.8 they are two lenses I just cannot part with, even if they don't get lots of use. For the price it is an incredible investment in good quality glass and I love it, it is probably one of the most under valued (ironic given the price) and under appreciated M43 lenses. It's now paired alongside the OM 150-600mm and I think they will get on fabulously.

Hi Emily, I hope you're doing well 😊. I've got the leica 50-200mm zoom. I've considered the 2.0 teleconverter, but other than eclipse time, I haven't wanted any more reach yet.

I have this lens & I love it! My bird & wildlife photos are so much better, than my 100-400, I get sharper pics, beautiful smooth backgrounds & love the colors. With the 2x tc I get to 800mm.

I'm not a prime shooter. I have the Leica 100-400 and 50-200. I've also got the OM 40-150 F2.8 Pro which is terrific. I have to admit, I have and OM-1 and an OM-1 II. Recently, I have a long zoom mounted on one and a wide to mid zoom on the other and flip between them. I love the setup, but it is certainly wretched excess of which I am totally ashamed. I think Amazon, MPB and KEH are pretty happy though ;-)

I love my 100-400, but I shoot almost exclusively wildlife. I got amazing shots in Africa where I really needed the extra reach.😊

2:16 "3D pop" you do realize that's an open invite for the worst sort of people to come in here? (Kidding of course - Kasey, you know I love ya) I already have the 100-400 zoom with my Panasonic G9 (both mk 1), and love it. It's plenty sharp at f8 for nearly everything I've used it for, including the solar eclipse in April, and it almost never disappoints. An additional option for some would be a Canon 200mm f2.8 on an adapter. You'd lose the lens IS, but it's half the cost of the Panny and 400g or so lighter - so you'd lose some weight even with the weight of the adapter. And you would have the option of going the other way from the teleconverter and use a speedbooster to turn it into a low light monster (as low as 128mm f1.8 on the Metabones XL - an "Eye of Sauron" on the cheap). I already have both adapters, so I'd definitely be considering it if I didn't also have the Canon 135mm f2. But I wouldn't kick the Panny 200mm out of my bag if it took up residence there ;)

I bought one new in 2015. At first my fumble prone fingers hitting closely spaced buttons on the back and inadvertently changing settings drove me crazy. But then I adapted and learned. Now I love it. I bought it for its small size and EVF. I like to travel light, I do a great deal of motorcycle touring and want a camera that does not take up a lot of space and allow me more than a smartphone. I’d trade the small EVF for a flip screen. I rarely use the video on this camera, I’d like to see similar sized highly capable camera without the video features, a bigger EVF and flip screen, I’d buy it in a minute.

Sounds like a great lens...I often make due with the Olympus 40-150/2.8 pro with 1.4 TX and an Olympus Pen F.....but I am doing mostly street...so the zoom works out better. Cheers

I have the 100-400, so that was my answer. While the long primes are certainly tempting, I go for versatility first since I'm not making money with these lenses and need to keep my budget in check.

I also considered these options but ended up buying the Lumix Leica 50-200, store example so a bit used but just over 1000 euro. I like the color from the Leica lenses and this is very versatile. Several months later a local e-shop had the 1.4 teleconverter on sale so I grabbed one for less than 100 euro! Excellent combo for a hobby photographer

Enjoyable! The primes I love just don't work for the utility photography I do: kids in classrooms, theater, music performances from varied angles, banquets, etc. I compromised with the next-best thing - a Canon EF 70-200 F/2.8 L IS II, which some have called the sharpest zoom ever made. I added an R50 APS-C body to see what I could see at 300/2.8, and wow! The relatively low-end body can take wonderful head-and-shoulder people pics with the honking big lens. Goes to show that it pays to mess around.

Nice to see someone thoroughly enjoying themselves ... in the cold. : ) We Oregonians (NA Pacific Northwest) need to learn to deal with (on and off) 6 months of cold wet weather. Between raindrops we can get some nice shots. We also have what has to be the most diverse cloud scapes in the N Hemisphere. We also enjoy a greater variety of cloud types here than almost anywhere I know of. IA casual survey of the many books on clouds, those published before the advent of easy-to-afford, 21st Century digital cameras (that take a LOT LESS skill, investment and time to use), a large majority of all authors/photographers who published older, film photography-based books on clouds (pre-21st century) , as it turned out, seem to be from this area of the U.S. I suppose we get so many clouds, those who grow up here become experts on them? I always enjoy your enthusiastic posts. Thanks for sharing, and for all of the smiles. Peace

I picked one up when they went on sale last year (I think it was 1499 EUR with the 1.4x) and it is a spectacular lens. Pairs well with the 40-150/2.8 if you want a mid-longish range covered.

Yes, yes and yes. The best out there for action and sports. Close behind it is the 50-200mm.
@larrywhite8590Күн бұрын
Can't agree more the 200f2.8 is a special lens, but personally I think the better companion is the PL50-200f2.8-4. Why? The PL100-400 is pretty soft after 300, and it is still a pretty large lens (although notably smaller than the Olympus). The 50-200 is great at 200 and still very good at 280 with the 1.4TC. The combo of the 200+1.4 and 2.0TC + the 50-200 gives you a very versatile kit, that is still quite small.

I've had a GM1 for 8 years or so. I actually love the thing. paired with a 20mm pancake lens, it''s the best way to carry a proper interchangeable lens camera around in your pocket. And don't mock the flash, it's better than none, and you can use your finger to tilt it upwards as you shoot, for a ceiling-bounce flash rather than a direct frontal flash. This can be done on the GX7 too :) That makes it a little more versatile than you immediately expect.
