I can't believe I used to own this guitar 10 years ago before I traded it in for a PGM 90th after a month! I thought it was a good trade too, because the 90th was nigh impossible to find and at the time I only paid $1100 for the 10th in the UK. I haven't been able to buy it again since then. It was so nice to play.

I have one and it's Excellent. Stays in tune , action is perfect and effortless to play. Sometimes with Trems & D-tuna there's too much going on. Keep it simple & clean.👍

Mine is a rare version where only 25 were made globally, after they found the original wood in the factory. Only three were shipped to the US and I have one of them.

Pretty sure the Axis has different pups - possibly Tone Zones vs the Ed custom wind? I tried EVH sig and Axis back in the day and was gutted that I actually preferred the sound of the Axis (and the switch position) - never realised that the neck is slightly different, they felt identical at the time.

I bought a japanese non export model. Serial number is Uxxxxxx, with a "made in Japan" and not "crafted in Japan" print. From the "Vintage Japan Guitar"' serial number decoder it should be one of the first made, in 1996.

If you think about it he is the only famous guitarist I know of that didn't had a signature model for public sale. Respect for Prince.

As an outsider who only knows the early Van Halen signature models I really got lost in the maze of all these Van Halen signatures. What we got is Ernie Ball, Wolfgang, Music Man, Peavy. Really ngah?? Too much confusion

Great vid. Very thorough run down. Sound wise, the EVH sounded like the toggle was in the middle position (I.e. both pickups together) vs the other two being definitely all bridge. Perhaps a faulty contact on the EVHs toggle switch leading to both pickups being on despite it being set to bridge only? 🤔

Great guitars, I have three (all hard-tail), a trans blue, trans amber and two-tone "vintage-burst"! Love 'em, very versatile guitars and I'm not a hard rocker by any means!

From where I am listening and I am not playing or in the room obviously, I like the Axis, then the Axis ex and last the van Halen model surprisingly. The axis sounds defined and most balanced tone. You said the ex was the same as the Evh, but it can't be with a veneer top, that's basically a basswood body

How about adding your own "The Story Behind the Strings" logo on it, with your social handle and maybe your favorite color as the base? I mean you're the one giving it away, not sure the winner's going to complain about a free promotional guitar!

Consider this: if Ed had actually designed the body shape, he would have retained the design and EBMM would not have continued post-deal with it. They owned the shape, which lends credibility to the idea that they had it before the deal was inked.

I still own my first guitar; 1991 Gibson SG Standard I bought as a 17 year old in 1991 with my summer job money. I was learning guitar in high school using the school issued Yamaha classical guitar. my attitude was go big or go home. Never sold it. I own other guitars now as well, but that is still my number 1 and through attrition I can now actually claim I own a "vintage" guitar! LOL!

I always knew it was some sort of Tele copy. Thanks for fleshing out the story. And when it come to Prince, when he played the Superbowl half time show, and the RnRHoF closing jam solo, he set the standard at that point for both those performances, blew away any past artist's performances at those respective events, and has yet to be eclipsed by anyone playing those respective events since IMHO. And I say this as a casual Prince fan, not a dyed-in-the-wool-I-own-every-album-fan.
