Sorry dude, that drum pattern and sample is wack. The whole beat is unimaginative with zero feeling at all. Don't do it for the hype of the machine do it for the love of the art and passion for music. This scenario is in full abundance on youtube and has become watered down badly. The beat scene is souless and lame these days.

Great video. The SH2000 was the first synth I ever bought 30 years ago and while I have owned about 50 different synths, this is one of the few I have kept. I have used for hundreds of gigs 95-05 and other than a couple of the plastic tabs snapping off it never let me down.

Around that time, but the engineers kept using it / modifying it until the end I think. It has the original prototype power supply that was later in the 90s edition. It has really old parts and strange markings all over

Thank you for actually going through the features & the front panel. I'm a huge early 90's hip hop fan and always wondered how they did the sound & production. A lot of people here post vids of making beats on it but don't show what the buttons do. The explanation of multi pitch & level was great, I always wanted to know so that I could recreate it. I can't afford an SP but have the MPC software on my computer and wanted to see how the SP workflow compares. I think some of this can be recreated even on the Roland MC-707. Lo-fi, analog tape effects, compressors, etc can also be used. Now we have a lot more sampling time on modern machines but that early hip hop, house, and D&B sounds are unbeatable classics. This was a very helpful video.

Got pretty much the same setup, Synths/samplers goes to HD24 then to a mixer for monitoring. Sadly, my mixer do not have any tape returns (Allen & heath ZED14). Got a question for you : Do you usually track your instruments with or without effects ? Thanks !
@ManoOne-Music-Production Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for your message. It depends. I usually record them dry, maybe with some EQ if it obviously needs some tweaking, and capture effects on separate tracks. Right now I make a ton of music on my Buchla modular, and effects are often key to a sound / instrument, so I capture them with effects in stereo

Just hooked myself a retro MPC One for $699. I could have definitely stretched for a Live II, (saw one for $900 with an SSD, and Decksaver included). And the prices on both One and Live II are very low right now cause Akai is getting ready for its new releases next year. I actually decided on this over the Live II because I didnt want an internal battery or on-board wifi. Crazy, I know. But that integrated battery on the Live, to me was more of a limitation than convenience, for my use. Besides finding proper replacements when it eventually dies, the integrated battery also adds more risk when shopping used, plus the travel/shipping restrictions to consider. And there were lots of users with battery failures and power faults out of the box. If you're not much of a flyer, and dont plan on traveling with it, this might not affect you, but I travel multiple times a year and restrictions and bans on lithium and NiMH batteries are changing all the time. While you can fly with the MPC Live easily enough, it still takes up essentially 1 entire bag and limits the number of any other lithium based electronics you are bringing as carry on. And some flights are already restricted to only one carry on bag. Then there is the Wifi component, which I dont really need as I dont plan on buying plugins or using their Splice samples. Many reported bug issues with Splice samples not working/playing after download. But even more of an issue that comes with Wifi are that their "premium" Plug-ins require a check in to their servers every 90 days. Basically making your hardware more dependent on licensed software and forcing Wifi to always be running (Sign the petition against this at Change. Org to "Stop Akai MPC Plugins requiring routine check"). So, is WIFI really a feature or another paywall limitation? Besides the fact that most electronics and cellular companies all force buyers to accept their terms and agreements that no one reads, or blatantly hides product limitations behind a paywall, there is also the issue of radiation safety from pulsed RF and microwaves when Wifi is continuously running, which I wont go into And some people even use these machines on their lap! So anyway, the Wifi is a hard pass for me. Just let me have an updated mpc daw with a nice screen for the modern day, updated memory storage formats, i/o connections, let it still be semi-portable, but lose all those "controller-esque" features that actually make you dependent on a computer or internet connection. And Akai can happily keep their OS menu diving, integrated batteries, and WIFI.

Thank you Stefan! There are a few prototypes out there, since they worked on the SP for a couple of decades and had lab units they always added / replaced parts on them. This one had (still has) the first “switching” power supply component, which then ended up on the 90s reissue. It has SP-12 parts in there too

@mano1 i’m new to the SP 1200. Very familiar with the mpc. I’m seeing that the workflow is extremely different. The question I have is say I’m using one of the factory sounds libraries the Rossum SP 1200 to build a sequence. I record the drums and they loop from the factory library . If i load a a different Rossum library how do I load it without it, changing the drum sequence I just played? when I change it, it changes my current loop to whatever is in the new library if that makes sense
@ManoOne-Music-Production Жыл бұрын
Hey sorry for the delay I don’t login on KZbin very often. I’m not sure. I’m not familiar with the new one, although it’s supposed to work the same way. I never load sounds / replace sounds after recording a sequence, and always sample sounds in. I’m not sure!

Usually we would just call him a douche-bag or something similar....😄. Good times! 🤣
