How I feel after owning the Linnstrument for a few days! I hope you will find it interesting and inspiring 👋 A very special, unique instrument. It makes me reconsider a lot of things with the way I think about my own music.

Fantastic overview! I've looked at the SWAM cello before, but never got it. This looks like the perfect controller for it! 🙌

It really is! I am tempted to buy the whole SWAM collection, but it's costly! At the same time, it's hard to imagine anything could beat their instruments. They are stunning. One thing to consider is their iOS apps, which sound the same but are much more affordable (I assume the deep controls and mapping are not included, but I am not sure). Might be worth getting one of these apps to try with your Roli. Thank you for being here!

I'm glad to hear that. My pleasure! I'm surprised that most of the talks these days seem to be about Roli or the upcoming Osmose - as in *only* about them, not mentioning the LinnStrument. It might be because of the grid layout, which is I think the main reason why I am in love with it. I spend hours daily playing on it, and coming up with new ideas I would not have had on piano keys. Oh and... You can literally call and Roger will answer and talk to you... Same with email. Customer service at another level. Thank you for being here!!

@@ManoOne-Music-Production Ideally I would get both the linn and osmose. But as a keyboardist who likes learning guitar, I’d rather just play guitar and get 90% (and more percussive sensitivity) of the same expressiveness from a nice weighted keyboard. I’m very interested in what linn offers to push technology forward in the future, but the osmose is almost a no brainer for my mpe synths.

Man, it’s epic with the Xpander. This is one of the most relevant demos for me as I mostly work with analog and modular synths, and so would want one to convert midi to cv, personally much more interesting and powerful sounds to me than emulating acoustic instruments, which ironically what it was more designed for.

Hey Nick thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you could relate to the Xpander stuff. I was actually worried that it wouldn't work well with the LinnStrument, but still took a chance and bought the L. I was happily surprised! No CV on the L but the CC selection and various menu options make the L quite compatible actually. Do you have a LinnStrument? Take care

@@ManoOne-Music-Production No, but thinking of getting one in conjunction with a Shuttle Control module to use with my eurorack.

@@NickHchaos I recommend it. I love all of the options you can tweak onboard for each control. Additionally the whole surface can turn into rows of CC faders. It's quite powerful. There's also a step sequencer mode, but I'm not sure if that's only the larger model (200) and not the one I have (128). There's also a great user forum where Roger hangs out and posts in threads. I couldn't be happier. I spent hours just today getting used to playing. I love how close the notes are. One thing is that this will make you want to spend $$$$ on a Deckard's Dream as it's designed with MPE in mind (huge pitch bends etc) take care!

@@ManoOne-Music-Production Unimpressed by the DD and Black Corporation offerings. I can just translate the CC to whatever CV I want to my own modules, yeah.

@@NickHchaos interesting to hear about the DD! I was under the impression that it was a darling of synth lovers. Full MPE, the whole CS-80 thing... The MK II is smaller (depth)... Also their Synthex clone / inspired synth...

Thanks for this Mano! Just found out about this instrument after using bery simple Launchpad type of stuff. How hard to you need to press to get a decent amount of velocity? I'm just wondering if playing fast on it is achievable or would that be tiring for the fingers? Cheers 🤘

Hey sorry for being late replying to your question. It is quite sensitive but I haven’t played with it that fast so I’m not sure how well it would perform for say a fast piano piece with a lot of quiet and loud parts

Very nice overview of the instrument. This one has been in my radar for a while! How does the midi register in a DAW? How can you edit the performance afterwards?
@ManoOne-Music-Production
@ManoOne-Music-Production Жыл бұрын
Yes! Sorry for the delay getting back to you. I have not done so myself, but since those are regular MIDI messages it should work. The only thing I’m not 100% sure about is how various DAWs will represent the MIDI data if you are in MPE mode, or even in the note-per-channel mode. Let me know if you find out. See you around and thank you

Do you think the larger-sized one has any noticeable advantage?
@ManoOne-Music-Production
@ManoOne-Music-Production Жыл бұрын
Personally I don’t think so. The larger one would make sense if you wanted to play with 2 hands and have more space I guess. I can play both hands on the smaller one. It takes less space of course which to me is nice. Take care. Sorry for the delay replying! I don’t login on KZbin often

Nice i was about to get one last year but let it go i have the roli SeaBoard and i don't like it you have to be very precise to hit the right notes and i don't like the Squishy keyboard yhat looks way easier

Hey Rudy thanks for being here. The Roli controllers look fascinating as well. I'd love to explore one some day. What I like the most about the Linnstrument is that it is an opportunity to break out of the keyboard layout, and it's very freeing 👍 of course I'd love a full sized Continuum one day... Just wow.
