I have a question. In this video you can see a lot of blonde Estonians. But Estonians speak a Finno-Ugric language. Did Scandinavians once settle in what is now Estonia? Or were there Germanic tribes there? Because many Estonians in this video don't really look Finno-Ugric. Especially with the Hungarians and Finns, you can see from the slightly Asian facial features that they have Finno-Ugric ancestry. Just for example in minute 1:50; 3:35; the boy at 4:26 or the two blonde guys at 4:30. They could also be Swedes, Germans or Englishmen, from the appearance.

Estonia was occupied by Germanic orders from 13th century, afterwards by Swedish Empire from 16th century and after the Northern War of 18th century by Russia - retaining the German overlords in so-called Special Baltic Order within Russian Empire.

When the Germans moved into Estonia during WW2 they found that the native ethnic Estonians were committing violence against innocent Jews on their own without any German involvement. Estonia needs to be held accountable for it's participation in the Holocaust 🧐

Its sad to see how many people in the comments use this beautiful tradition to promote nationalist values. This is about solidarity, sharing a feeling with strangers and coming together as humans... it doesn't depend on your cultural background or even the language you speak. And this togetherness is certainly not destroyed by immigrants or different cultures, but by people spreading hate and trying to divide.

Lost me at "proud to be part of humankind". Estonians, and only Estonians, do this, this specific way. Of course dance festivals happen in many places, but they´re all different, peculiar to a given nation; not global and interchangeable. I´m very glad that I get to witness this, but my people would never (sadly) manage to do anything of the sort. We´re all different, which is why it amazes us foreigners so, to see something like this. I can´t be proud of something that doesn´t belong to my people, I can only be deeply moved by its beauty while watching from afar, and that´s how it should be. Sorry for my English.
@kamillkruutmann46874 жыл бұрын
I am Estonian. Yes I am proud to be part of humankind. I have danced for 10 years (I am currently 17 years old). Have participated in the festival (2012, 2017, 2018, 2019) and there is so much power around you when you are there. And that power becomes happiness when you are dancing for your country and people. So much pride and joy. i assume you're not from the UK. I'd like to know where you are from.
@wilka1713 жыл бұрын
@@kamillkruutmann4687 I think what he is saying is that you Estonians can do this because you are all White and have a common culture and a love for one another. Western Europe is being torn down by multi culturalism and so they have no ethos. We love you because you are one people. Stay strong.
@wilka1713 жыл бұрын
My friend, if you are European, if you are White, whether you are Germanen or Slavic, these to are your people. Once upon a time Europeans all shared a common ethos and culture. Maybe you cannot dance with them, but you can go there and watch and revel in it.
