I've had Citizen Sleeper 2 on my wishlist for a while. I'm not 100% sold on Airborne Empires. I make my own little top 10 games I played in a year and this year I did have Airborne Kingdom on there, but one of the things I liked about it was that there was no combat, the fact that they're adding that in Empires makes me want it less.

WARNING! The version on the PC xbox store has broken achievements as at dec 2024. Enlightenment, Full House, Cannon Fodder, No Harm No Foul, Complete Collection. Greatest Toymaker In The Land are all broken for me at least. The study area is bugged so does not display the collected tin soldiers. The developer said the game would be patched but that was over a year ago. Overall I expected to love this game, but there is no save option. The levels soon become big and time consuming to solve. Personally I often had to quit a level and lost my progress many times. The rewind function does not rewind your actions. So you need to manually move all the blocks back to the last "safe position". So exploration & experimentation is very slow. It is very easy to over rewind and not notice so only much later do you realise a soldier died or a switch was missed. There are also glitches that force you to quit and lose all your progress. One example is getting your soldier to the exit door and the exit door will not open!

@@lilesindiecorner I am really glad you loved the game. The game has very high production values & the devs put a lot of love into the game. You must be much smarter than me as those later levels seem huge and complex and took me a long time. @lilesindiecorner
@lilesindiecorner Ай бұрын
@@cargorunnerUK Hey, your grievances are all valid. When it comes to broken achievements and such that to me is utterly unacceptable because it speaks to a lack of care. When it comes to stuff like puzzles and checkpoints that is much more subjective, and one can like or dislike it. And I don't think it has to do with smarts at all. Somtimes puzzle games will be hard for me because the devs very clearly think very differently from me. Othertimes it's easier because whoever designed the game thinks much closer to how I do. And I think I said in the review (excuse me, it's been a while since I made that one), that the rooms get unnecessarily big while the mechanics kind of stay the same. That was also a dislike for me. I just overall love the charm and it never got to the point where I got very frustrated. But that threshold is also very different person to person. Put a check mark behind this one and play something more enjoyable, that's my advice!

Man. Many of these games and your reasonings, mainly in the case of Thirsty Suiters and the last two, get quite confronting. Seem like situations where looking at the world in black-and-white is a rare luxury and things are a lot more tangled from both the protagonists' side and the situation around them. Leaving some names before elaborating on them: Briar and Lute from Soulstice, Gretel from Magenta Horizon, Cherry and Regina from Cookie Cutter, Foam Gun from Zet Zillions, Globule from Decline's Drops, Even from Lost in Random. Although probably not an outright indie game, i want to mention Briar and Lute from Soulstice. Even if it gets a bit spoilery. Their game is in the genre of character action or hack-and-slash: think Darksiders, DMC, Bayonetta and stuff. The setting forces for certain people to have their souls tied together into one singular body, creating what is known as a Chimera. A Chimera consists of a Knight and a Shade. The Knight is one of the two "Supplicants' " bodies and mind, which navigates and fights physically and still retains the mind of that particular supplicant, while the Shade is immaterial and taps into the ether and magical powers, in order to make corrupted creatures and extradimensional ghosts vulnerable for the Knight to fight. Briar is the Knight, and Lute is her younger sister and the Shade. Briar's got a moody, stubborn and battle-eager disposition, a lot of frustration and resentment for the way Lute has ended up, stuck to her forever. She casts a lot of blame onto herself. Lute for her part is a very kind young lady, polite and receptive to the suffering of others. And she has never blamed Briar a single time for the way things have ended up. In certain parts we get to explore Briar's mind as Lute explores it, and we see the events that led up to becoming a Chimera. Firsthand we notice things that Briar has and has not told Lute about, from that anger and guilt that Briar still feels to this day. Instead of despairing or becoming angry, seeing this pain is all the more reason for Lute to want to be there for her older sister. Which she is, in both combat and words, and in their conversations with their few direct allies in a wraith-ridden mass grave of a city. It shows itself especially strongly in a moment near the endgame where personal revelations about their nature, and the direness of the situation, comes to a head. Briar believes it best to give up. Not just because of the overwhelming odds and a cataclysm nearing its climax, but because as a Chimera they are growing unstable and risking Transcendence: a transformation into a powerful, insane monster that would wreak more havoc and most likely undo their own personalities. And it is once more Lute, this young child, deprived of body yet full of warmth and wisdom beyond her years, that can reach out to her sister in the darkest of places. The entire game's got some themes of duality: some of the bosses are Transcended themselves and a reflection of how the intense bond required to make a Chimera, does not by necessity have to be a positive one. it's got its issues for sure and I love it a lot regardless. The others i'll leave for you to discover.

I can enjoy a more black-and-white story, like En Garde, for example, but when I truly think about what sticks with me and what hooks me then we're definitely talking messy and complex. My brain latches onto that stuff like a leech, maybe because it's a safe(er) way to deal with all of my complexities without directly involving other people. Oh damn, that sounds very anime :D But also super intriguing, thanks for sharing that! And talking about messy, I think, we, too, can sometimes have strong bonds with people that are not at all positive. Even if we don't want to tie ourselves to them, circumstances don't let us separate at points. Very poignant for sure. And you gave me homework! I know Lost in Random, and have heard about Cookie Cutter but I have to look up the other ones. Thank you for your thoughtful comment!

@@lilesindiecorner More than fair! Characters, stories, movies and games may be created with different purposes in mind, and the way such a project is executed can stick with us. It's like... different flavors i suppose. For example, Globule from Decline's Drops (which released yesterday)... she doesn't seem to have anything to say against anyone. She's here to take revenge on the big science empire that is responsible for destroying her garden. And she's simply a cute gardener ragdoll/puppet. I initially wanted to include Pseudo from Clash: Artifacts of Chaos for an example, because i dearly love that game. Simple case of an older, ugly martial arts hermit setting out on a "me against the world" type story. He self-admittedly likes things to be simple. The flavor comes from how he speaks to his opponents as well as how he and his companion speak to each other. Man's got room for sadness, determination, sass, wisdom, humor and even menace when needed. But i was thinking of the end of the game, the developments there. And thus Pseudo might not *fully* count. EITHER WAY: Can very warmly recommend Clash: Artifacts of Chaos as well. Have a listen to two of the tracks, The Boy Calls and Pseudo's Theme in that order. It's beautiful and awesome stuff That aside, i see your points on the stories and tales of more complex events and developments in peoples' lives feeling like a safer way of dealing with one's own complexities without directly involving others. It's like seeing examples of different roads you can take, right? Different ways to act, to react, to look at others and yourself. Even if not in such an *exact* situation, in one's own life there can be similar events unfolding. And perhaps the examples from other stories can work in a comforting or guiding way. As uncomfortable and confronting as it may be, the messy and negative examples are especially important in this way too. Seeing parts of ourselves in less positive characters is empathy and selfreflection, right? That's important to never let go of. As for Soulstice sounding like anime, you're not far off :P the Soulstice devs have cited the likes of Claymore and Berserk as some inspirations, i believe. I'm glad that description made you intrigued! Heck yeah! Lost in Random had a new game, a kind of side-quel (like how Darksiders Genesis was for the mainline Darksiders series) some weeks ago. Many people are already slamming it but i want to give it a chance. I hope all these titles will prove interesting and wish you a lot of fun and good luck on stuff for both YT and outside of it. Thank you in turn for taking the time for this reply! I'll have a look at the rest of your channel too.

@@jurtheorc8117 I completely understand when people want to use games simply for the purpose of escapism. Revenge story, farming, murdering millions of aliens, I think that's all valid, and as a means of unwinding, I personally love that as well. Sometimes I wanna go 'brain off, veg out'. But that's not the main reason why I play games. I like being challenged in some way on my views, or learning something new, see the world through someone else's genuine perception. Indie devs put a lot of themselves into their games and reflect on a lot of things through their art. That's what I love most about gaming. I've seen a lot of different family dynamics from my own, learned about how people deal with grief, or just gotten a glimpse of a culture I have never experienced. And I love that stuff, and that's what intrigues me most. Thank you for all these examples, now I need to note everything down, so I don't forget to look them up, because my brain is not made to retain information, sadly. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday!
