Hiking the entire trail takes about 10 days (for most), which is about the limit one can reasonably do without resupply. The part you hiked is the least isolated part of the trail; it gets much more remote as you proceed farther south. In fact there are rather few places where you can access the trail farther south, and some of these are at the end of remote logging roads. The trail receives little traffic and parts of it have a barely discernable footpath. That said it is quite well marked and easy to follow if you keep your head up. It is very rugged and there are many, many hills to climb. Keeping the trail reasonably cleared is a huge job done by volunteers for the most part. A new crop of trees falls across the trail every year, and these have to be sawed out. All that said this is a gorgeous trail, and unique in its remoteness in Ontario.

Did not know that trail existed in my backyard. You seem to have encountered an overgrown section or maybe it was just the campsite, do you know if you can thru-hike the trail?
@fournierluc22053 күн бұрын
Just looked it up, a bit far from the city of Ottawa, the trail goes north from Temiskaming, about 7 hours by car NW of Ottawa.
@garrethikes3 күн бұрын
the overgrown area was the blue loop aka Roosevelt lake loop. yes you can thru hike the whole 140km trail

Thanks for the video. I have an Altaplex and find it fits nicely if you put it in a corner of the platform on a 45 deg angle with the back corners of the tent secured to either side of the platform. I run the tent line through the Unails in the sideboards and slip a tent peg through the loop to secure the corner. I secure the back of the tent on the corner of the platform, usually there is a Unail you can tie off to, to finish the set up. This only requires securing the front corners and centreline using the platform anchors. You will probably have to fiddle with the end lines, but they are not as critical.

Nice pack, what material did you choose for this color ? After these few weeks, how satisfied are you of it's fit for fastback if you had the opportunity to do that ?
@garrethikes4 ай бұрын
Material is ultragrid. I've used it 9 days so far at varying weights from 10-22lbs. I am very satisfied with the fit and it is great for light loads/fast packs.

@@stephaneboudreault8231 The max recommended load is 25lbs for both models, the 30L and 40L. I can confirm it definitely starts to get uncomfortable around 25lbs.

How tall are you? How did you decide on the 16 inch length and vest?

About 5”6. I decided on 16 as it was the smaller I could find, and my other packs were always too large.

Thanks for showing off the new bag! Did you have to order the running vest straps separately, or do they come with the made to order packs? I didn’t see the option to add them to the order on the page where I was selecting measurements, so just wanted to make sure
@garrethikes5 ай бұрын
I had to order the pack and vest straps separately. Looks like now they come with them unless you select that you don’t need the straps. Should be under “strap size” right under “torso length”.

Those things for anchoring to the platform are brilliant. I have been to Frontenac around a half a dozen times and like the easy trails. The one drawback to me is how few private sites they have that get snapped up so quickly. Many sites have 2-4 sites only a stone throw from each other, but it is a fantastic place to learn backcountry camping and get a taste of it. Loved the video.
