The information in this video is no longer valid. If you are using a USB GPS, you do not need to map to GPSD at all. The settings in OpenCPN on the Connections tab must be set to Serial. The communications speed should be set to 4800. FYI, you cannot use USB 3.0 mem stick while using USB GPS. You can plug a USB 2.0 mem stick into the 3.0 (blue) port and boot from it instead of the mem card but you cannot use a USB 3.0 mem stick.

Thanks for the video. I followed along, but am only getting the decoded wind related sentences coming through. Apart from those I am getting a lot of $STALK sentences which I have no idea how to decode to be usable. Any help greatly appreciated..

Don't buy cheap RTL-SDR clones. Buy the original one, it's not much price difference but the quality is.

Hi, thanx for this usefull tutorial. However: I'm trying to install OpenPlotter on a RaspberryPi 4-b with a 128 GB SD card, and it won't work... I only see the black screen with text and rasbiian logo + QR-code, It says'start4elf is not compatible' 'this board requires newer software' (?). Any idea what's going wrong? Regards, Henk

I don't understand why you have to connect it to GPSD in Serial but then disconnect it later? can you simply connect it to Signal K instead - thanks?
