Hi Mark, Any cracks in frame yet? Heard ti cracks after time

the business is all driven by the market. If the price is competitive with good enough quality, I would also consider china branded products. Now there are some good brands on the market like winspace and seka. I have 2 pina bikes with rim brake, and I will not consider pina anymore because their frames are really expensive.

You boys are fucken masochists. Riding 450 in a day is insane, in my eyes. If I ride 100 it’s memorable. I like your thoughts on stopping and smelling the roses from time to time.

You’re a true warrior!! And so is Hanna for supporting her man! I just started Swifting two days ago ( I’m 46 with no notable history of being active) and I can’t even imagine finishing just one of these routes. Such an inspiration watching you pulling this off!

I just watched your video, it has been about a year since you posted. I used to feel the same way about riding in the cooler and wetter weather. I have learned how to properly prepare for and dress for the weather, and I actually like to ride in the rain now. I love the sound of the rain while riding, the freshness of the air and also love the cooler crisp air. It is something to get used to, and being prepared with a little bit of the proper gear makes cooler or wet weather enjoyable to ride in. I always have a rain cape in my saddle bags in case I get caught off guard. I suggest to you and others not avoid the rain and cold, but learn how to adapt to it. You may come to enjoy riding in the weather that you don’t particularly enjoy now. However, use common sense … probably not the best idea to be sitting on several pounds of metal during a thunderstorm 😳

why don't they make steerer tubes thicker (stronger) ?? Instead of using extra expander plugs, which sometimes weights +40g anyway.

Mark, thank you, I just found this very informative video 4 yrs later as I am in 2024 and about to embark on a self-build titanium road bike. I am at the research stage and as far as I can see, this Waltly Chinese frame on your bike seems to be similar in quality to such well known brands as Lightspeed & Lynskey amongst others in the west. My cycling journey spanning 50 years is based entirely on using mechanical shifters and rim brakes and I am not at all convinced that there are any significant advantages in adopting disk brakes. I think they’re over-hyped and a lot more difficult to maintain not to mention additional costs. In my opinion a good set of durace rim brakes and decent carbon wheels like the ones you’ve fitted are still unbeatable. As for electronic shifters, I’ll have to weigh up the pros and cons of going electronic with a Sram groups. Any additional advice would be most appreciated.

I have got a lynsky titanium bike with disc brakes and shimano 105 drive train. The rims are easton carbon fibre, so I'm not sure how they rate in the big picture. I did work at zipp many years ago and can tell you the early campagnolo wheels are something to stay away from as well as spinergy as they do fail. Spinergy at the rivets, but things have moved along the way from those early days. I do not like the idea of rim brakes on carbon fibre rims as the prepreg carbon fibre is heat sensitive as I used to true up full disc wheels with a heat gun. Surely, a big long decent at speed, then hitting rim brakes and generating a lot of heat on bends is not a good mixture. The big thing is what the specification is on the resin used on the rims. I do not think you will ever know, and I have come off my bike at 50mph or 80kph, hiting an oil patch on a bend. I am sure I am not the fastest guy out there, so it's just something to think about. Sliding on bitumen at 80kph is not a good feeling, and when you see the pros, do it on all sorts of surfaces it is best to avoid that kind of event where possible and still have some fun out there.

I had a TERN GSD gen 1 and now have a GEN 2. It’s a great bike. The children are bigger now but for 6 years they went to school on the back of the eBike. We still use it to drop the biggest one, who is 12 at the tram stop where she meets her friends. Get an eBike - they are fantastic.

I do not agree with his assessment of titanium as a frame material--some of ti's advantages are not just a matter of personal preference either. I own a ti frame hardtail 26er, and love it. The ride quality is great, but it is also very durable. My 20 year old frame is still pretty much like new, with zero corrosion, or cracks, and will likely last until I'm gone.Carbon cannot match that kind of longevity. Also, it is competitively light, as my bike weighs in at 21.5 lbs with an 80mm travel suspension fork. That fork does have a carbon crown and steerer.

Fantastic vid, I've been doing deep dive research over the past few weeks into the Tern GSD as we're seriously considering purchasing one here in New Zealand. Our situation will be precisely like yours in a couple of years in terms of our children's ages. This is by far the best video that I've seen for people living and using the Tern. Also, I did smile a bit when I saw what you view as a _steep hill._ I'm in Wellington, and those Melbourne "hills" are veritable mole hills. :) All the best to you and yours.
