If you wait until hundreds of cases then you lose control. Sydney has been in lockdown for 2 months and has at least another 2 months to go, no end is in sight. Brisbane locked down with single digits and contained a Delta outbreak in 8 days. Now out of lockdown. This strategy works and actually means less time in lockdown and obviously much less deaths. It sounds crazy, but it works.

I am running a 1X on my gravel bike. Purely because it came like that. Was planning on buying a Canyon but they had none in Stock and didn't look like they would have any this year. Most places were out of stock of most bikes. Tried the local Specialised Shop here in Dublin, Ireland and went for a Diverge with Shimano GRX. The 1X took a bit of getting used to for me, but it's cool, I have no issues with it. The bike itself is a joy. Didn't think I would ever buy a gravel bike, but was getting a little fed up with the usual routes on the road bike so a couple of weeks ago I decided to get the Diverge. It has been great fun.

I like 1x just for the tire clearance. This means you can run wider tires, or narrower q factor, or fenders. Personally, being able to run road cranks with offroad size tires is the key.

I've had a couple of bikes with 1x gearing. Both times after a few months I changed them to a 2x and life became better. I really see no benefit to 1x gearing for most people. Same with disc brakes, my cross/gravel bike has cantilevers and works fine, minimal maintenance and braking is fine once you set them up properly.

Hello Maven! It's great to see new content from you! Last time I checked in was way back when you were not so sure about uploading more stuff on YT - maybe 2 years ago? Road cycling years. Anyway, to much surprise I see you're now riding a 26 inch war machine now! I myself have one very robust 1998 Specialized Hardrock chromoly steel frame. Heavy as all hell. Slow but comfy. I think 1x is fine for mountain bike trail centres but I didn’t like it on the road. Too big jumps between gears if you’re bothered about cadence and I missed the ability to add or dump gears using the front rings.

I converted the mountain bike to 1x because I was sick of jumping between the front rings when on the trails. I’m now reconsidering, since I’ve lost the really low down gearing you need for the gnarled stuff. Time will tell.

Maven... good to see your daddy domesticated dance and having a great time with your family.... been awhile as youtube doesn't send emails like they used to.... got to hunt to find things these days.... regarding the 1X vs 3X front chain ring... I own both and if I'm going for speed I'll ride the full suspension with the 3ring ... it's heavier than my Scott hard tail and as long as I don't have to continually get it going .... I ride the bike with more choices.... However, if I'm heading for the hills.... it's the 1x11 for the win.... cheers and hopes for the lockdown madness to wain where you are
@neon36903 жыл бұрын
I find 1x is good for mtbing (you don’t have to look down to check which chainring you’re in) and for CX (one less thing to get caked in mud).

People answer fast. A 10T-50T 12-speed cassette out back and a single up front could give you a useful gear for anything you encounter, however with only 12 speeds jumps between gears are noticeable.

That is mad locked down with 6 cases. 31k cases in uk today. Think Aussie government need to realise zero covid isnt an option. Benefit uk has is we are 80+% vaccinated and very little hospitalisations. My understanding is Australia only about 5%... 1x on gravel bikes is nice and simple but I specifically specced 2x GRX on mine and havent regretted a thing
