At this point no the regulations have just changed as of Jan. and now the US. is allowing breeding sheep back, but semen is unclear at this point.

Not to be a smart ass but what kind of Northern climate are You if you don't have much snow in January?? we usually average at least 20-30 cm cover in that Jan, some years even 50-70cm

We are in central Ontario just North of Toronto and don't get much snow though the winter 10 to 15 cm on a bad year.

thank you for the video, i noticed a lot of open pasture grazing and not so many temporary fencing, is this a preferred method? i am considering a start up and will be looking at more of your videos.

our paddocks are around 4 acres made with Gallagher high tensile fencing and the whole farm is surrounded with 5 strand fence. When we have a lot of growth we will use a temporary real with 2 strands of polly wire and push in posts to divide the paddock in half.

Yes we always like to maintain 4 or 5 LGD's of different ages so its not a shock to our farm when one old boy dies.

Do these sheep produce wool and milk or are they primarily meat variety ? Also are there any restictions on bringing them over into Newfoundland?

The Rideau's can be milked they'll produce about 200 L. for a 100 day lactation + or - . We milk a few in the spring for our household use. The wool is about 34 microns and 3 kg per sheep + or -.

Meat quality is excellent The test has a good consumer approval . We are in a supply chain with other large Rideau breeders, with an abattoir and stores. The carcass have long loins and low fat with good colour and decent muscling the carcasses are all very consistent at 26kg dressed wt. or 50kg (110 lbs) live wt. achieved in 110 days on a full grain diet.

At this point there are no Rideau's sheep in Germany but embryo's could be imported along with semen. We are working with a Germany veterinarian here in Canada who can arrange it.
