I just ordered. I am fairly child led in our learning path, but this seems affordable and a way to introduce some slight structure that my boy may enjoy. In 1st grade how long are the books? Is it broken down into days of the week after the whole book is read? Or does it take the book in sections?
@karifacer
@karifacer 2 ай бұрын
The books are all picture books, so they take 10 minutes or less to read and so you just read the whole thing in one sitting. You end up reading the book twice during the week, but the second time is optional I believe.

If you don’t mind, can you link all the supplies that you used to prep? The folder for the curriculum, the paper cutter you used, etc. please & thank you!
@karifacer
@karifacer 4 ай бұрын
This probably isn't the answer you want, but I found the paper cutter at a garage sale years ago and can't find the same one online. The white folder with the page protectors is from a store called "Daiso" which is a Japanese store near us. I will try and put some things in the description box, but let me know if there is a specific item you need!

Thanks for sharing!! Looks super fun and engaging! If by chance I will so love to hear how you organize/ separate each one. For example : If I get the pack ( 12 bundle ) is it each month we will learn about a new place ? Also Is this something that I can use as a whole history/ geography curriculum for kinder level or should I just use this as a supplement for extra ?! Thank you
@karifacer
@karifacer 4 ай бұрын
I don't have any organization tips, but they are pretty open in the way that you can use them. If you wanted to go through one issue every month you could or you could go over one issue for a few months. They come with PDF files as well that include flashcards and coloring pages. You could totally use it as a whole history or geography curriculum. It may be slightly advanced for kindergarten depending on your child. Because we haven't used it much yet I don't feel like I am very helpful! But I am sure there are other videos out there that dive deeper into it.

Can you plzzzz go over the good and beautiful bc when others do they talk all good things bc they are “ partnered with them “ and I’ll love all the good and bad!! @karifacer
@karifacer 4 ай бұрын
I do plan to do a review of the Good and the Beautiful, but not til we are done with it, or almost done. The videos of people that work with TGTB that I know of, were using them before and partnered with them later because they loved them. So I am not wary of their reviews and trust what they say. You can also go to TGTB website and download both the Math and LA curriculum for free and comb through it to see what you think!

Hi my name is Chelsea. I want to say Thank you so much for this whole review. It was very thorough and very informative. I do have a question though so hopefully you reply back! I heard you said that it comes all lose and you can put it on a binder or have it spiral bounded… now does it come already in order as in the teacher guide and lessons? Or do I have to figure out the pages / order it all goes in?! I love how you separate the worksheets in binder for the kiddo but I’m nervous I won’t be able to figure it out lol it’s very expensive curriculum but I’m willing to do it since it has they lessons/ days already planned out in such detail as I know I didn’t find any other curriculum that had that it’s mostly I have to plan and it was just a lot on my load for each subject so this is nice how Bookshark does this and makes our life easier!! I just really love how your set up is very organized and straight to the point and easy to follow and that’s exactly how I want mine to be but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to know what pages goes with what or how to organize it and separate . Does the activity pages like yours come like with the week title on top of the pages? I kind of want to do the whole package with them meaning all subjects!! Bc that’s how much I love it but do it thru sonlight to get the Christian part out of it. We do use our own Bible study so I’m not sure if it’s necessary do to that with them but I love either one! If you can plz message me or even email me ( [email protected] ) for help and guidance I’ll really appreciate it!
@karifacer
@karifacer 4 ай бұрын
I'm glad it was helpful! Everything comes in order and all organized. You can unwrap it and immediately put it into a binder as is! Most people leave the worksheets in the teacher's guide, but if you do decide to separate them they are all labeled. So if they were to fall on the ground and get all mixed up you could easily put them back in order because they are labeled. The worksheets are just behind each week overview page, so they are in the week you are currently on if you leave them where they are. And yes, if you want the Christian part, go with Sonlight.

Full disclosure: we have not begun this yet, but we will in a few weeks (we are currently finishing the preschool bundle). I did however use it a couple years ago with another child and absolutely loved it! At that time I didn't purchase the whole bundle, I had the teacher's guide, and the storyboard pack and purchased all the wonder tales as well as some of the core books. All the book recommendations that we used were fantastic! This time around we will be doing it all, including the art and music stuff. But my kids are now used to the flashcards because we have been doing the preschool bundle and I love having those! This is something that I recommend to my friends though because we have loved everything we have done thus far. Rachel from "seven in all" does a lot of flip throughs and reviews with them as well if you want another opinion as well.

@karifacer 10 ай бұрын
I realized that you had already seen the video I sent you! I don't know if I have a lot of new thoughts, but I will try to elaborate a little more. For Primary 2022: The questions can be odd and vague sometimes, so that bothered me. And I still wish the guide was more simple and clear. I feel like the Teacher's Guide is easier to follow than the Home Instructors Guide, but the Home Instructor's guide does have additional support boxes for the parents which can be nice. I like that the set up is easier that MWC, or at least I am gathering less materials before each lesson. You do have to go online and print things out, which is annoying if you forget. There are also hands on projects that you can do if you choose. I would do Primary 2022 again, with the Teacher's guide. My personal favorite has been The Good and The Beautiful, but I haven't tried them since they updated it and we couldn't use them with our charter school.

Thank you for this helpful review! My daughter, (6 in September) is a reluctant reader, like your son. She can read a bit, when she wants to put in the effort of sounding out words. However, often she just lacks the interest. Teaching a child to read is fairly new to me, as my older son, (now 8) learned to read fluently, levels ahead, at just 4. I literally thought that's just how most kids learn, lol! Anyway, THANK YOU! Now going to deep dive into researching the Ornton (sp??) method. I hadn't heard of him, before your video. Much more intrigued with All About Reading, now that you've shared your experience. Also, you are an excellent communicator! Very organized delivery of information! 😊

Hi Paige! It’s so wild to me how differently kids learn! Haha! Or even just their level of motivation! The Orton-Gillingham approach is just a multisensory phonics technique, and they are two people that came together to come up with the approach. We have loved All About Reading though and I know Logic of English is well loved by many as well. Both are more expensive, and we did add more games into level 1 of AAR, but they have a bunch of free activity sheets on their site, so that was super helpful! Something that helped my son get more into reading was setting up a reward system. I have a video called, “help motivate your kids to read” about how we do it if you think that would be helpful! And thank you for the compliment about being a god communicator! I really appreciate that one! And thanks for taking the time to watch and comment too:) Good luck!!
