Thank you for this helpful review! My daughter, (6 in September) is a reluctant reader, like your son. She can read a bit, when she wants to put in the effort of sounding out words. However, often she just lacks the interest. Teaching a child to read is fairly new to me, as my older son, (now 8) learned to read fluently, levels ahead, at just 4. I literally thought that's just how most kids learn, lol! Anyway, THANK YOU! Now going to deep dive into researching the Ornton (sp??) method. I hadn't heard of him, before your video. Much more intrigued with All About Reading, now that you've shared your experience. Also, you are an excellent communicator! Very organized delivery of information! 😊

Hi Paige! It’s so wild to me how differently kids learn! Haha! Or even just their level of motivation! The Orton-Gillingham approach is just a multisensory phonics technique, and they are two people that came together to come up with the approach. We have loved All About Reading though and I know Logic of English is well loved by many as well. Both are more expensive, and we did add more games into level 1 of AAR, but they have a bunch of free activity sheets on their site, so that was super helpful! Something that helped my son get more into reading was setting up a reward system. I have a video called, “help motivate your kids to read” about how we do it if you think that would be helpful! Thank you for sharing your honest opinion. :) Did you end up using both All about Reading and Logic of English with your child or another child?

We ended up using All About Reading with my second son, and that made a huge difference (in a good way)! Logic of English looks like a great program too! The only reason I chose AAR instead was because AAR seemed a little more simple, and that’s what I felt like we needed.

Did you continue on to level 2? Do you have a flip through of it?

We did not. We ended up not using all of level 1, so I don't know much about the next level, sorry.

@@kristenheuer5676 we finished off the year using the Good and the Beautiful along with this. We used this with my oldest and he attended an in person charter school the following year. But with my second child we started out using All About Reading and are still using that with him. I wish I would have done AAR with my oldest as well because its been great!

What are cvc words

CVC just stands for "Consonant Vowel Consonant." so words like "cat" or "dog" are cvc words :)
