How come the seperate objects (like ears and head, head and body) merge so perfectly seamless together?
@3DMage
@3DMage 6 ай бұрын
I add a very little amount of subsurface scattering on the materials, which helps with the "merging" you are seeing. I also utilize quad remesher to help merge meshes as well.

@@3DMage Well that does explain a lot. I guess joining the parts, put a remesh on top and try to subsurface/smooth things out wont do the same trick?
@3DMage
@3DMage 6 ай бұрын
@@neltran15It could work, but it depends. The default remesher in Blender doesn't work quite well for small details unless you use very tiny voxel values. I find the quad remesher addon does an amazing job retaining small details.

It looks really good. When you have overlapping objects, the parts where they intersect look really smooth. Is this a shader? An addon? My imagination?
@3DMage
@3DMage Жыл бұрын
I use the Quad Remesher addon to combine intersecting parts as one mesh to help achieve smoothness in certain parts of the mesh. I also found adding a bit of subsurface scattering helps hide some of the intersecting parts as well.
@theowenator2006
@theowenator2006 Жыл бұрын
@@3DMage Thanks for the tip. That works really well! I just tried it out. I was really shocked because it looked like there was either some real-time fillet voodoo or some normal data interpolation between intersecting surfaces. I already use Quad Remesher. I don't know how I'd work without it. It saves so much time.

How you use Scale in vertex?
@3DMage
@3DMage Жыл бұрын
If I understand the question correctly, the scaling operation on a vertex is achieved using the scale operation on a vertex where the object has the Skin modifier attached to it. I believe the shortcut to enable scaling on a vertex with Skin modifier is Ctrl + A. Hope that helps!

Are you referring to the skin modifier chain? If so, the way to scale a point to 0 would be "ctrl + a + 0" if I remember correctly.

Why do you merge everything at the centre in the start?
@3DMage
@3DMage Жыл бұрын
Basically, when I scale the cube down to 0, the 8 vertices of the cube still exist. I merge them so that when I do the skin operation, there is only 1 vertex rather than 8.

@3DMage Жыл бұрын
Haha yes. I do admit the technique is a bit weird. The idea to alleviate that area of the model would be to use a projection bake to turn it into a textured tail if I ever decide to do retopology in the future.
@kaizenfox
@kaizenfox Жыл бұрын
@@3DMage Ah, fancy and intuitive. I didn't think it would be easily repurposed... so much to learn. say, does modeling using sculpting help or hinder the rigging process? Or is there possibly better methods for me to learn if I plan to build riggable models?
@3DMage
@3DMage Жыл бұрын
@@kaizenfox I honestly find rigging to be very flexible in Blender. The method of how the model is made isn't that important as much as how the rig is laid out on the shape. When posing Tails for the final render, I have not actually retopologized the model at all. I just laid down the rig and posed him. Granted, there are a few caveats with how I rigged the final model of Tails. However, if you want to use the model for animation or games, then the best workflow is this: Create the Shape -> Retopologize -> Rig. I haven't shown the rigging process of Tails since I thought it would be kind of boring for people. However, would you like me to show the rigging process in future videos?
@kaizenfox
@kaizenfox Жыл бұрын
@@3DMage cool, I'll definitely keep that work flow in mind as I learn. I would like to see the rigging process for models created in this manner, though I could see how it could be boring/repetitive to see for every model. Maybe a video of its own showing the steps and considerations you normally take for rigging.

hey how did u get the edges to round out @0:31?
@TheUnknowny
@TheUnknowny Жыл бұрын
Can you elaborate?
@3DMage
@3DMage Жыл бұрын
If I understand your question correctly, to make the edges rounder, I just use the subdivision modifier. More subdivisions make the edges of the shape rounder due to the Catmull-Clark smoothing that occurs with the subdivision modifier. If you are referring to smoothing out the flat shading, I just use the "Shade Smooth" command in Object/Edit mode to remove the faceted faces look on the geometry. Hope that helps! EDIT: I also realize you may be referring to the display mode of the subdivision modifier. To make the edges appear curved while the mesh is subdivided, there is a button with a triangle icon that you can click on to make the effect of the modifier appear during edit mode. It is located on the top portion of the modifier among a set of other buttons.
