As soon as I saw his back-breaking 2nd attempt, I knew right there and then that he'd do little more than rattle the plates with 501kg on the bar. Your 2nd attempt on 470kg must both look and feel like an easy opener if you wanna expect to succeed with 501kg. This particular world mark carries with it the unfortunate baggage of a mental block that must be broken through before anyone can hope to break through. Think back to when Bannister broke the 4-minute Mile back in the distant past. The hardest part of breaking through is getting your mind to accept that the mental block is just no big deal. Bannister had four 400meter runners run relays against him to make him push himself to keep the pace going and to not let up. I know that's not relatable to deadlift training, but surely some real savvy coach can come up with some method that will make it possible for someone to break the 501kg barrier. How I wish with all my heart and soul that Hafthor had gone all out that day and done 505kg, or even really busted his hump and make 510kg!! Blind Freddie could see he definitely had it in him! With that barrier completely neutralised, imagine what the present crop of strongmen would be lifting? Instead what we're seeing are every strongman and his uncle trying to convince the world . . and themselves more importantly . . that Thor's lift was not legit! IT WAS!! But what everyone missed was how Thor trained for it. He let just about all his other lifts slide backwards to give total complete priority to attaining his goal. That's a pride thing. Letting your hard won gains slip away to be able to achieve another goal. He then pursued his goal with a ferocious singe-mindedness which really brought out the character of the man. His coach had prepared his program, and Thor did not deviate from it, even resisting the temptation to max out early when he felt sensational. He stuck to it like a tick to a bull. I'm a lifetime clean Powerlifter, and every gain I made was won with blood and sweat, and a lotta prayer to God to help me break all the mental blocks that stood in my way of squatting 227.5kg, or 502 pounds. Eventually I let my bench press slide backwards, even though I'd only recently broke through the 320 pound barrier, because it was more important for me to squat 500 pounds. I took a leaf out of Pat Neve's book and I took my father along to watch me squat 500 pounds at a Powerlifting comp in Feb, 1983. Pat's thinking was that he'd better make the lift so he wouldn't embarrass himself in front of his family. My old man was my sternest critic, as well as my worst detractor, so I had a double point to prove. When I drove that 227.5kg up for two white lights, the whole gym erupted with congratulations for me, and practically everyone there approached my father, before and after the comp, to tell him how well thought-of I was by everyone for everything I'd done to improve Powerlifting in our particular backwater. You know, I never finished a Powerlifting comp with less than 227.5kg in the squat after that day!!

Nothing like watching the pros to remember you're not quite all that. On the plus side, perhaps some day I too might one-arm a Cerberus sandbag.

But wait this was done in a garage gym and not in competition, so it must not count just like Thor’s 501kg deadlift doesn’t count, right Thor haters?!

I Think this might be a man, pretending to be a women. Imagine the real women who dedicate so much and sacrifice so much just for a man to come in and steal their hopes and dreams. Crazy world.

so people can accept this as a WR but they can't accept Thor's record?.... Bunch of hypocrites
