Why on earth do we still have tapes with imperial measurements on in the U.K.! A tape wouldn’t even make the long list if it wasn’t metric only and if it wasn’t metric all 4 sides it wouldn’t make the short list! 🙄

I'm amazed that you don't have more subscribers. I live in the backwards imperial USA and I use both systems. Sometimes something I measure ends up exactly xx millimeters so I just use it. Especially if I have to divide it. I know fractions but it's just so easy to do half of 330mm. Happy holidays to you too 🎈

Not a bad gift to self and not breaking the bank, win, win win, I tested the silicone pots, great for the day after. Probably not quite sealed enough for keeping the glue good too far past that. Handy though.

Great video. I actually tossed all my DeWalt Fat Max because the locking mechanism fails after moderate use. I almost exclusively the small 9-foot / 3-meter magnetic-backed DeWalt tape measure which I keep stuck to the side wing of my table saw, or in my pocket if I’m using some other tool. You are absolutely spot-on when you say you don’t need a tape measure that reaches dimensions larger than your shop! By the way, I checked out Fast Cap and they do have a metric only series. Don’t know if they’re available in the UK.

Question, I am a vegan, so the leather strop is straight out. But then you showed the cork sheets and it struck me that perhaps the cork might be an acceptable substitute for the leather. And you could put a stop on the backside of the block for grip.
@startmaking12 күн бұрын
Great point. And not one I have tried. But I think the rubber is maybe a little sticky. If it was me, I would get a piece of mdf and rub the Polish compound directly on that.

@@RobertRedland I'm pretty sure you are just doing the standard anti-vegan snark, but just in case you really have no idea, veganism isn't a diet, its is a moral philosophy that leads to not using any animal product for anything.

About the countersink bits: they are designed for metall work but perform great in wood. The difference to the "orange juicer" bits is that these bits must be used before you bore the hole to get a clean result! If you are using them in a ready bored hole you allways get something awful but no clean countersink. On the other side it's not the way I'm working because wood drill bits are not designed to bore a hole centered into a countersink hole, so you have to use metall bits for this job.
@arglefargle123Күн бұрын
interesting that Mark didn't mention that must-use-it-first limitation about these countersink bits. that pretty much destroys them as an idea for me. so thank you very much for mentioning it before I wasted my time and/or money on them.
@wolfgangmarkow348713 сағат бұрын
Just to get it right: the "orange juicer" bits with 3 to 7 cutting edges have to be used before drilling the hole to get a clean countersink! The shown bits for metall work (which I'm using too) only work in drilled holes and create an excellent countersink. And you always need a set of different sizes because they have a limited range of hole diameter at which they can work. A bit that's designed for about 4mm holes doesn't fit for 10 mm holes!
@Greyotterstudio2 күн бұрын
Those countersink bits seem very useful! Looking forward to the next video for some extra details!

Another interesting video Mark. I'm someone who prefers to buy tools myself rather get them as gifts. I'm surer of actually using them then. I have several new tools received as gifts that are nice, but not used. I have some hard rubber shapes to wrap sandpaper around for sanding. My dad taught us boys to wrap sandpaper around blocks of wood or wood shapes & go at it. That's definitely not the best way. I bought a couple of the counter sinks you show & I agree they provide the neatest cut holes. For tape measures, I keep a 16 ft., 25 ft. & 50 ft. handy. The last is for building construction, which I haven't done in years. I have a 6 ft pocket tape that goes with me when I'm measuring lumber or like articles. I agree that no two tapes read the same, similar to some flat rulers. I'm right-handed, so when I hold the tape case in my left hand & pull the tape out with my right, the numbers are upside down. Correct reading tapes are made, so I have to get one of those. That drilling guide looks handy. I've never come across one of them, so don't know if they're available here, maybe on Amazon. I've heard of steel drill bushings being sold individually for projects. I look forward to your next video.

Hi Mark, Great tips and ideas, like the counter sink bits for the drill, I usually countersink by using a bigger drill bit, but these look a lot better. Glue pots I use old ketchup or sauce bottles and I think they have good grip when squeezing the glue out. Like your self I do have a lot of measuring tapes I think I have 8 or 9 I have one in inches only and two in cm/mm and the rest in both. I do like the gluing tray and roller. I like the idea " be kind to your self " my be I should in once in a while. As always good to see you and a great video, catch you soon mate, Take care

This is a great list for woodworkers! I would be highly pleased if someone got me anything off this list, even if I already have one. These are all something that I’d be ok having multiples of… except maybe the drill guide, but I don’t have one of those yet, so no problem there!! 😂😂 great video, Mark! Keep them coming!

I’ve made a tape holder (on a cleat, of course) that sort-of does the jog but I really must stop being a tight git and just buy a proper dispenser. It would make my life so much easier. Those deburring countersink bits look the business as well. If Santa doesn’t visit, I might have to. Forwarding on this video to my kids for inspiration.
