I wish I could be this skilled most I’m sure do but my brain isn’t equipped to handle doing something like this. I’ll get overwhelmed and stressed. I’ve put things together but I’m going back and forth needing to look at instructions over and over. However when I do put it together I’m proud of myself but I will never trust myself to build this. People have naturally born talents gifted to them individually. Everyone will not be as talented or experienced with building and creating structures such as this. And that’s why humans should be more appreciative and amazed by the work of a carpenter or engineer vs a skilled surgeon. If it was possible for everyone to be skilled in these things Businesses would be less successful because everyone could do what they did.

@IRONHORSEhomes3 ай бұрын
If your material is only 6" or 8" then you might get away with just screwing the hidden tongue. Our material was a full 10" and we want our laps to be tight & not let any wind get under any siding, so we put a bunch of 2.5" GRK Finish fasteners in them, usually every 3' and closer to the bottom of the board so it would hug tight on top of the hidden tongue underneath. The finish holes are so small when they stain the log siding you can't even see the penetration after.

Hey did you’re footings call for vertical dowels? Getting ready to build one in Bailey. Thanks!
@IRONHORSEhomes4 ай бұрын
Yeah you need vertical dowels centered in the middle of your 8" wall to connect footings to stem wall. So if your footing is 16" wide you want them 8" from outside footing form. We usually tie our dowels in place before we pour footings but you can also cut and bend them so inspector sees them and stab them after you pour once your concrete has had time to set up.

Too many folks concerned with the camera lens or quality of video. This is a construction video. They are not cinematographers. The other part is the part to focus on…the construction. I would be suspicious if these guys were GQ models with a team of videographers, personally. I found it interesting, guys! Wanna build one of these! I think the land around me would be massively expensive and if I could find some acreage without restrictions, it’d be off grid. Sounds romantic. But a single woman in a heavily snow covered area with dangerous freezing temps at times, may have to ponder that one pretty hard. Until my next life, I’ll keep watching and dreaming!

Great videos. I will be needing an experienced builder like yourself of log home kits for my own 1000sq ft log home near Woodland Park area. What is a broad and general rule of thumb to expect to pay someone like you and your team to put up a cabin kit? Thanx much. Cheers from Denver Colorado.
@IRONHORSEhomes9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the support. No general rule of thumb, you'll get a different number from most contractors depending on their skill level, schedule, size of team. Cost per square foot is tough to answer based on complexity of design, etc. Are you looking for a general contractor or someone to just install the structural kit? I've had a lot of people down that way reach out about Eloghomes. I'm currently down in Calhan, CO working on one now! Hope this helps, thanks.
@co4x49 ай бұрын
@IRONHORSEhomes thanx for replying. I'm mainly looking for someone to install the structual kit just like in your videos, someone like you who has the experience working with log kits. If possible have the log kit erected to the point of "dry-in" status. That being said I'd also need someone to do the foundation to match the log kits footprint.
In Northern California I built a Lincoln Log kit cabin for a friend in 1981. 50ft x 25ft with a loft. All the logs where machined over lapped interlocked on the corners. It was assembled using twisted spike nails 10in long, the logs where 6in thick with a spline cut milled down the center for a 1/2in x 2in spline full length of the log run then then strips of polyurethane foam was applied on both sides of the spline. Each nail was pilot drilled and spaced staggered 10in apart on each side of the spline. Each nail was seated using a 16lb sledge hammer. Everything is as level today as it was in 1981, no separation no settling. Test of time it has been 42 years since I built it with no issues. There are 2 doors and 12 windows witch 6 are stained glass all are duel pane. It is beautiful a work of art I am proud to say i built it.

Would you take a project for a 1200sqf A-frame in Cripple Creek? Thank you!
Another 3ft you could have had a basement wasted space
@IRONHORSEhomes10 ай бұрын
Basements are between 8-10'. Saved more than 60k by not doing the basement just in excavation and concrete costs, not to mention what interior finishes, appliances, etc would cost. Adequate space within the floor plan at more than 1500 square feet. Crawlspace still gives heaps of room for storage, etc.

Are there soffit/ roof joist venting anywhere? I noticed the ridge cap is completely sealed.
@IRONHORSEhomes10 ай бұрын
It's a good question. We typically always gap the ridge and then do soffit ventilation. This A-frame system does not include any soffit ventilation. The owner asked we butt the ridge to make the house as air-tight as possible. We did a spray foam / batten insulation afterwards. There is mechanical that includes forced air, etc. I'm not an engineer nor was I the GC on this project. Hope this helps thanks.

How do you put electricity/outlets? Or is it really that off grid?
@IRONHORSEhomes11 ай бұрын
Good question, we drill through each row of logs and stack over the top of each other so electricians can pull wire through top of wall. We also come back and recess outlet boxes in proper locations. Takes a lot of time..

kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5C8aWR5eZ6ogNE around minute 4:56 is when I explain briefly. I do not have an in depth video of this process like I should. we measure the length on every log for every row and then drill it with a 1" bit. We stack the hole over the tops of each other and bring a piece of string or strap through. This proves to us that something can pass through the logs. The electricians will come after and fish their wires through those holes. hope this helps.

Were you happy with the kit? We are about to buy from these guys. Their prices are unbeatable right now.
@IRONHORSEhomes11 ай бұрын
I like Eloghomes kits but you need to keep them accountable through their materials lists on your purchase order. We had a window get left out on one project and a bay window roof missed on the other, small things luckily. Also, find a professional to stack those logs for you. It's really easy to mess up log cabins with getting your walls off plum, missing notches, etc. Beautiful product when done correctly though! Good luck!

Great work! If only you were located in Northern Wisconsin, currently trying to find someone to build a Avrame Trio 150. Seems like many contractors are scared of “kits”… Any recommendations, could this be a self-build?
@IRONHORSEhomes11 ай бұрын
Find a way to get your foundation and concrete done by a professional and I'll come out for 2 weeks and erect the kit. You can do pretty much everything from there. Quality contractors shouldn't be scared of kits! If you have construction background or carpentry skills you could get the structural kit erected, otherwise I would not recommend. Hope this helps and good luck!

The most useless building ever, I'm sorry, but every time you go in one, duck your head. A waste of materials and labor I was in an A Frame of sorts The base was 4 ft high and the frame mounted to that, thus no banging and ducking, nice set up.
