I just got hold of one with the original Monogram/Revell box. Also in the box was a decal and paint scheme for the version flown by Flt Lt David Hornell VC. Most likely 20 yrs old, all parts sealed in the original bags.

The Panel lines are beautiful but the fit is appalling. The one I am building, the fuselage halves are either different or warped. As for the wings I tried to get them to line up using the spars or guides that are on the wings, I eventually cut them off and just glued the Wings to the relevant mould shape on the body. That way I didn't have to fight with the spar. With the piece on the bottom of the hull with the step, it would not align with the warped hull; I made a vertical piece and then cut the step piece in half length wise and fitted it. The interior was nice and went together well. Definitely not for beginners.

A very nice review. I have three of Burt's books, two on British battleships of WW1 and 2 and one on Japanese battleships and they are all very good. There are some models of the Vanguard out there, an old Hasegawa model in 1/450. However, in my case I have gone for size and simplicity; the GHQ 1/2400 version!

Fair enough: you are connecting existing panel lines. But let's imagine: a model with only raised lines. You sand them away. How do I know where to rescribe them ?
@geoffcoughlin7310
@geoffcoughlin7310 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Yes, that's a point well made. Interestingly, when I have been re-scribing older models like the A/B-26K conversion I did in SMN of the old Revell/Monogram kit it has black plastic. Here's a link to my full build in SMN: www.scalemodellingnow.com/aircraft-revell-monogram-b26k-counter-invader-conversion-build-review .When you sand that away, the former raised panel line positions are still visible, which is great as they are pretty accurately located. If the plastic is silver, I have found much the same effect which is again great. If the plastic is light grey or you test a small area first and notice that no positions are visible what I do is sand the raised panel lines back so that they are almost gone, but not quite, and then re-scribe as close to the raised line as possible and when done sand the rest of the raised line away. Clean the gunge that accumulates in the recessed lines with an old toothbrush.This works well I have found. Good luck and hope this helps? Geoff C.

Prop blades get wear on the back, one in the desert might show some minor ding on the leading edge, but are scoured to metal on the back at the tops, for example, eg commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Maintenance_of_274_Sqn_RAF_Hurricane_Gerawala_1941.jpg If they are metal... Trop Mk.I's from photos always have the de Havilland prorp and spinner, with metal blades, but Mk.II and IV trops have Rotol props, which usually have compressed wood composites blades. this is a IIc in Burma www.asisbiz.com/il2/Hurricane/CBI/images/Hurricane-IV-RAF-170-Wing-dispersal-area-Burma-IWM-CF352.jpg note the scoured off yellow tips, but no chipping. Hurricane propeller ans spinners are a more confusing subject than usually realised www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234980181-hawker-hurricane-propellers-and-spinners-a-modellers-guide/ Hope of interest. The use of the toothbrush in the airflow is neat bit of subtle weathering though.

What do you seal it with? Ive tried weathering powders, pastels, and Tamiya weathering kits, but when i seal with a clear coat it always darkens it down and the lightly done weathering virtually disappears. Its a shame because weathering powders/pastels look extremely realistic before using a sealer. I used Tamiya matte clear coat. Because the model i made wouldn't have looked right with a shiny finish.

@@geoffcoughlin7310 If you go onto KZbin and Google Esmond Knight you will find a Radio 4 programme called the Death of the Hood. It was broadcast in May 1981 on the 40th anniversary of the battle of the Denmark Strait. It was narrated by Knight, who as you may know was a famous actor before the war, but served on the Prince of Wales during the battle and was partially blinded when it was hit when it was hit by the Bismarck. Fortunately, he regained some of his sight and went on to enjoy a successful post war acting career, including appearing on This is your life!

It's not actually my main interest or even scale, but, having an admiration for the Sunderland (somehow even its name is evocative) I've bought the kit and am very pleasantly surprised at what appears to be very good quality of mouldings. The proof, of course, is in the pudding - how will it actually assemble? Good videos by the way, and I thank you for not having to have background music of any sort. I can't understand why so many reviewers seem to think they must have it: it's distracting, is frequently incredibly irritating and actually fights the narration, which is the point of the video to start with.. So, thanks :)

The only set showing lines is HMS Harvester, the others show profiles or in some cases sections. www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/mmi_lambert.html might be able to supply copies for the drawings that they commisioned from John. I myself am hunting for a copy of L/0/49 "THE TWIN 4-in. MARK XVI GUN on MARK XIX and RP 51 MOUNTINGS". Sincerely hoping they are in Volume 2 coming out this August, sadly not in the superb Vol 1.
