Appreciate all the work you put into this vid. Its more work than most people realize. You're very well spoken and fun to listen to. If you ever decide to do another suppressor comparison video, you might consider doing what Solomon (Rooftop Defense) did where he goes out a distance (50-60 yards). I think there's more value in listening to that kind of audio comparison because the speakers aren't getting maxed out, and it helps hear the slight differences much better. I wonder why more people haven't done it.. almost all are right up next to the shooter. Again, great vid!

I appreciate the kind words man! I love Sol, even though he is the reason I spend so much money. I need to get a SOT one day and get a postie SAW like he has for demonstrating the cyclic rate acceleration too. I mostly shoot at a public range, but I like that idea. I think a shotgun mic may work well from that distance, someone else suggested recording from the ejection port side too. May put all of that into effect once I get a few more cans in to compare against so it's not the same video again. Thanks for the feedback!

That Aguila is pretty poopoo but I will buy it if I'm running low and stop by academy. I run Hornady American Gunner 140 BTHP through my M110A3 and it's right at $1/Rd from lots of places online. Sub-MOA, 2650 FPS, SD of 15, ES of 45ish. When the Federal GMM Berger 130s are $2+/rd, it's hard to justify the price difference. I'm doped to 1200yd on the Hornady stuff and it's very consistent. I'm with you though the price isn't justifiable from a performance standpoint. It's still probably my favorite gun to shoot though and SR-25s are always the right vibe.
@MountLetheHellfire
@MountLetheHellfire 14 күн бұрын
Yeah the whole system - military contracts and price pressure aside - is overpriced but I still love it and it performs. I think if I had a straight up lemon I may not feel as strongly in favor. A few guys I shoot with recommended the same thing, Hornady Match or Gunner, I see that lucky gunner sells the latter in 200rd packs. Do they use small rifle primers? I had one box of Aguila do really well when I broke the rifle in then quickly it went to shit as I showed in the video. Some of that was me but not to that extent. I keep buying up the FGMM 140s when southern defense or bucking horse do sales on them, the brass is really good and is small rifle primed which is why I like it. I keep meaning to do a run of reloads to pick a recipe now that I have a big pile of brass, it'll save me a little over $1.30/Rd with Berger 140s in them
@kst8guy02
@kst8guy02 14 күн бұрын
@@MountLetheHellfire The Hornady American Gunner uses large rifle primers. I don't reload, but I whipped the calipers out and checked my brass to confirm. The aguila is like all I shot for like the first 600rd because I can only shoot 350yd at home and they worked fine on like 2MOA sized steel gongs or IPSCs, but at any real distance on small targets they're crap. For the same money you can get that American Gunner and of course I forgot about the Hornady "Match" with the same BTHP bullet. The 200 round cases are definitely the way to get the best value and that's what I've been doing. I'm going to snag some more of that today from Scheels and yes they use large rifle primers. I'm jealous of the reloading setup. I don't think I have the patience or the knowledge to do it, but it would be nice someday to dedicate some time to figuring it out and it would make the really good Berger stuff worth shooting, for sure. I'm surprised at how few videos I find on youtube of setups like ours. Appreciate the content, man.

Ah thanks for confirming. Shit, I may start to just buy the small rifle brass separate or try to trade my LRP and 6mm CM for SRP 6.5CM brass. Yeah for ringing gongs I don't mind, but shooting on paper causes a mental block in me since the shitty group is much more noticeable. I should just learn to ignore or only shoot at steel. I used to shoot a decent amount of competitions on active duty and got into reloading to offset the cost. The mid 2010s were the golden age I feel, all of the tech was really good and prices were still low. I learned on KZbin, I'd grab a RCBS Rock Chucker or Lyman turret and a set of good dies from Mighty Armory and a good scale if you ever got the bug to get into it. I run everything progressive with a lot of automation which is why I'm so anal about the primer pocket size. Last thing I need to do is blow up a stack of primers crushing it into the wrong hole 😂 And thanks man I appreciate that. I'm still getting the hang of this KZbin thing. I need to invest in a better camera setup for live firing soon

@MountLetheHellfire
@MountLetheHellfire Ай бұрын
Depends how long you want it, the ARCA was a nice quality of life feature for me, but I preferred the look since it's 16.5 inches. Other options, if you wanted to stick with Geissele rails, is the Mk16 SMR which has a 15 inch rifle rail - that one would actually look better with the Ops Inch Brake on it too - or you can go with the Otter Creek OTB devices and still have the AEM-5/OI-12/OCM-5 cover up most of the exposed barrel. Daniel Defense has a RIS-inspired longer rail, the MFR-XL that is also 15 inches and MLOK And beyond that, not too sure, but those recommendations are only if you wanted a longer handguard for the aesthetics or mounting longer clip on devices onto the gun. If you didn't care for the longer length then there are plenty of choices from BCM, Daniel Defense RIS II and RIS III, Centurion Arms does their own set of handguards, Geissele has a ton in the Mk4, Mk8, Mk15, Mk16 families plus their other one-offs you can find used, and I think Triarc does their own rails too but I may be wrong about that. I personally don't like the look of KAC rails either, except the URX3.1
@stephenedwards5063
@stephenedwards5063 Ай бұрын
That’s my dilemma. I can’t find a rail that I believe SOCOM would select. The barrel will be 14.5 inches, and I’ll be using an Allen Engineering collar and brake. While I dislike the look of Geissele rails, I feel that the MK18 would be the handguard they would choose. I’m considering chopping the handguard down to size to achieve a similar aesthetic to previous MK12 models but with updated parts. Sons of Liberty offers a decent option but there rebranders so there automatically disqualified. BCM rail isn’t bad looking, but I don’t think they would realistically win a contract. If I select a rail without a built-in Arca, I’ll be using the TRIARC Arca system. My original plan was to use a LaRue Tactical LAX rail and customize the barrel nut to resemble a RAS barrel nut collar. unfortunately, LaRue has stopped producing this rail. as of right now, I assembled other high-end components but I’m stuck trying to find a handguard

@@stephenedwards5063 yeah I think the 18 inch GFR that MARSOC (or whatever they call themselves now) and NSW picked up uses the MK18 SMR For a 14.5 that's easier to get a rail for since 13.5 is standard. The RIS 3 sort of fits the design ethos of the Mk 12 Mod 1 they went with KAC to get more rails but also the URX2/RAS barrel nut was more rigid and in that department it's hard to beat DD other than with a URX6 Are you going to do the dimpled 14.5 from Centurion?

@@colkilgore9973 I think if you're keeping it on there full time it won't hurt. I only ever give it the "unga bunga" hand tightness and it stays on there but doesn't get seized up. Ultimately it comes down to how gassy the gun is and how much crud is blow back but I've never carbon locked a HUB thread-on can (yet). If you're going with the strap wrench method and put like 40 ft-lbs on it then definitely do it just so you can remove it if needed.

@@Redbusser40 damn that's both good and bad for that reason. Honestly depending on ranges, 1-8 is fine even to 500m if not more. I have a 1-8 ATACR on my Mk12 Mod H and it's got the best edge to edge clarity and color transmission of any 1-8 I've used. I've had issues with tracking on S&B optics, but their 5-25s not their LPVOs. For the $2000-2500 range there's a lot of great choices either way.

Very cool, did you get the PC from the latest drops? I think the CRS would be great, Rooftop has a few CQBs but he corrected the price on them to 1984 which really blows. At $1600 the CRS is a steal, don't feel the same about a CQB for $400 more. I've been staying away from the SR-15s for now, I have a FBI SWAT Regional 11.5 clone with ~5000 or so rounds on it, but anytime I see a Mod 2 CQB with the URX3.1 mod I want one. Thanks for the great info. I have an LLC but really directly with Gotenna directly isn't exactly easy for a small company. I've been wanting to get this tech into professional hands since it's the easiest professional solution before jumping into more expensive wave relay gear. I use Meshtastic around the farm but I don't see it as as viable for professional use.

Glad you found it useful, I know it's a super long vid, so I appreciate that. 3 years ago it was pretty easy since they were just bringing up the Pro X line to the market, but now, it's pretty much impossible unless you know someone or just bother them a lot. My boy who I served with is still on active duty, he's a tech & comms chief at 3rd Group and even they cannot get on the horn. Best bet is to find a reseller like Mojave Repeater or otherwise to see if they can hook you up. The LoRa spec was really meant solely for IoT small payload burst comms, moisutre sensors, movement, solar measurements, etc. It's honestly really amazing we've been able to get ATAK somewhat working with PLI CoT working on LoRa with Meshtastic but it really is stretching the capabilities to their extreme. I think there is some utility especially if you spend the time building hardened, solar powered casings all around your perimeter with a central point, but GoTenna would be perfect. And you're right - I think I mentioned it in the video - next best option is a Silvus SC4200 Lite in Federal S-Band which requires a special FCC allotment in spectrum, not to mention working with those dudes is so much harder. After that's you're looking at $15K/ea for a kitted out SC4200 with LPI/LPD, or another $20K for a similarly outfitted MPU5. Good luck getting them to even talk to you, I had to make an appointment and go to their office in the Lower West Side to even get told to fuck off lol

@@MountLetheHellfire thanks for the reply. I've got a line with Silvus, but they would want to see a genuine use case from me on a vetted customer. I get it. Looking for the opportunity for sure. @MountLetheHellfire
@MountLetheHellfire Ай бұрын
@armygunsmith yeah that's a better way to put it: easy to contact, hard to work with. I mean I get it, it's an ITAR controlled item, most of their business is via GOV/MIL/LEO with a bit of EMS/SAR, they gotta do their due diligence and don't need to just sell radios otherwise they'd do it. My business was setup as a consultancy for east coast volunteer SAR and EMS teams so it wasn't too hard to get the PO, but I'm not doing that anymore really, cannot devote the time and also I have enough expensive hobbies as it is - don't want to tie up another 30-50K in commo gear that hardly gets used. That's not surprising, GoTenna is definitely a lot more stringent now, I also think they're tapped out of all of their old X1s probably sold them off to give them to mil/swat for T&E so they just want a deposit. Silvus was the same way, refused to send us a T&E unit to even test out the interoperability with our DMR & GT kit without us paying full price and then some. It's an underserved market, I think if someone came up with a GT/TW sort of setup for civs as a better price point, even if it was only a 3KM LOS device that could support TAK CoT there'd be a lot of money to be made. No one wants to sell to the prepared civilian side of the house
