I just bought a Moroccan ney, from Oujda, and watching this immediately improved my ability to get a bare sound from it by about 60%! Not bad, can only get better. Thank you!

I'm trying to start, but I think I have really low quality neys. Both my arabic and turkish ney just sounds bad. 😢 I believe I'm blowing right, cus my pvc kawala plays relativaly ok. Anyway, great video! Thank you for that.

Wow, that's brilliant Kalia, it's a devil to be able to produce a sound with a ney, let alone to play it as beautifully as you. It is such an amazing sound that goes to the core of your heart.

I’ve watched every kaval and ney tutorial on KZbin and when you said “if you can whistle you can play the ney” just that statement alone took me so much further with this instrument. Thank you.

Today is my very very very first day playing the Ney. I got a really good sound when my professor held it for me, but I cannot do it on my own yet. Hopefully I can get it with patience!!!

She has a mystical voice and the Arabic Nay sounds very sweet. Oh, God, make me a hollow reed, from which the pith of self hath been blown so that I may become as a clear channel through which Thy Love may flow to others. Abdul-Baha

Deeply sad song, beautifully and passionately performed.
@SufyMusic Жыл бұрын
I find it inspirational; it does have a sad melody, though. The lyrics I believe are deeply symbolic of the human soul. Ye are even as the bird which soareth, with the full force of its mighty wings and with complete and joyous confidence, through the immensity of the heavens, until, impelled to satisfy its hunger, it turneth longingly to the water and clay of the earth below it, and, having been entrapped in the mesh of its desire, findeth itself impotent to resume its flight to the realms whence it came. Powerless to shake off the burden weighing on its sullied wings, that bird, hitherto an inmate of the heavens, is now forced to seek a dwelling-place upon the dust. Wherefore, O My servants, defile not your wings with the clay of waywardness and vain desires, and suffer them not to be stained with the dust of envy and hate, that ye may not be hindered from soaring in the heavens of My divine knowledge." Bahá’u’lláh, Hidden Words Persian 26

Hi Kalia, fisrt i want to say THANK YOU and second i really want if can you can speak about the low register sound? How to get this "scratch" sound or raspy?
@4n0nym0u55 жыл бұрын
The Ney is a patience instrument. You can't just pick it up and play around. It requires patience. But just as Kalia states at the end, it's worth it. Don't give up, keep trying. For those who want a beginners Ney, you can get a Turkish "kiz" Ney. These are smallest models (70 cm) originally produced for girls. The name " kiz" makes it obvious to anyone who knows Turkish (or the Turkish word for girl)
